Chapter 3 Chapter 3

Reina's POV

My first day in college was a disaster.

For the first time in a while, I had to admit that I felt genuine fear.

I'd had multiple complaints about me, accusations about things I'd done, but I never expected this to happen.

How was I to know that Lucian Draven would literally buckle down in front of me just by touching me?

I never had much experiences with supernaturals because of an occurrence nobody could explain to me, but if this could happen... It meant I couldn't be here.

And I was afraid this school wasn't about to happily let me go if that was the case.

I was invited to talk to the head counselor after the commotion that happened. I didn't know why I was brought there instead of the Headmistress office or something more serious, but I quickly understood why when I got in.

The man who looked at me with a smile on his face, crooked glasses, was bald but his expression was friendly enough.

He introduced himself as Dr. Fredrick Smith.

"Are you okay, Reina?" he'd asked the minute I sat down.

"Yeah."

I was lying.

But I was always great at lying through my teeth. It's how I've survived this long.

He sighed, elbows on the desk. "I bet you're wondering why you're here. Well, it would be a bit hurried for you to be at the council meeting. This isn't really something that can be solved in one night."

"So..." I stopped myself from asking.

I had some questions. For almost my entire life I'd wondered about something. I knew something was wrong with me. But I never got any answers no matter how hard I searched.

"Ask," he prompted.

"Who... What..." I croaked. "What am I?"

He gazed at me sadly. "That's what we're trying to find out, Reina."

I nodded quietly.

"But Miss Clementine," he continued. "For a human, as that's what you are deemed for now... you don't seem scared."

I frowned. "Scared?"

He offered a smile. "This is a school for supernaturals, weren't you scared when walking through the gates?"

I thought about it then shook my head.

"Interesting."

I was let go minutes later. I was much calmer and given some pointers on how to go about my night before the council calls for me later.

I didn't have much to say, relieved to be leaving.

But that was short-lived when I saw him again.

Lucian Draven was looking right at me, his intentions clear as the night.

He said nothing, but he didn't have to.

I wanted to put up a strong front, but how can you do that against a werewolf?

My heart beat was uncontrollable as underneath my arms got sweaty.

I wanted to run away, but where? This was his territory.

If he wanted to kill me... There was nothing I could do to prevent it.

I closed my eyes, trying to calm my breathing as I stayed put.

I flinched when I heard footsteps.

But nothing happened.

Then I heard the slam of a door.

I opened my eyes to see the spot Lucian stood empty.

I let out a deep breath.

I didn't give myself enough time to relax before running out of the building, making sure not to look back.

It was a miracle how I found my way out, but I was startled when I saw a shadowy figure standing as if waiting.

Then I recognized them.

Ash Mi.

"Come," I was told.

I simply followed.

I knew I should question them, but I didn't want to. It was like I knew I'd be fine. I found myself at the dorms, right in front of my designated room.

I turned around but I couldn't find Ash Mi.

I didn't bother much about it, my thoughts wondering how my roommate would be. A school of werewolves, vampires and more, there was nothing to be shocked by.

I opened the door to a short-haired girl coincidentally walking out of the shower, a large T-shirt on.

I hesitated.

She seemed pretty normal to me.

I waited a beat before she addressed me. "Gabrielle Newton. You're the new girl, Reina."

She sat on her bed.

"Hi."

Her eyes fixated at me for a moment. "I'm surprised you're still alive. I guess you're one lucky girl."

She said this with indifference and a straight face like it could happen anytime.

She went to bed and I was left alone to do my business.

I got in bed later, under the darkness of the room, surrounded by the rare moonlight and sighed as I tried to sleep.

Gabrielle was right.

I was one lucky girl.

Too bad it was only going to be for tonight.

They were angry.

Nobody would talk to me. But they stared.

I was going to end up a social martyr, I knew.

I wasn't able to get through my first class peacefully. But I ended up being stopped by someone. Marietta Swan, she said her name was.

I wasn't even able to digest that before the bitch threw a fucking punch at me just before my next class.

I coughed. But instinctively, I retaliated by slapping her.

I didn't expect her to collapse in front of me, looking deathly pale and... shocked.

I was the center of attention now.

But I didn't do anything wrong.

I wasn't able to take anything in then I saw Lucian Draven walk up to us.

I knew he wouldn't care.

He hated my guts now and he'd definitely believe her.

He stepped in front of me, seemingly stoic.

"I didn't do anything to her-"

"Don't fucking lie, you freak!" someone yelled.

There were yells of agreement.

"What the hell did you do to Marietta?" Lucian thundered. "It hasn't even been a full day and it seems like causing problems is a part of you, isn't it? Is your plan to kill supernaturals?"

I blinked. This was all going too fast. I was getting really annoyed.

I couldn't stop myself.

"I didn't do anything," I spat. "If you and her weren't so bent on showing off your power, maybe you wouldn't have almost fucking died." I groaned. "Seriously, if you want an apology, I'll apologize. But I didn't intentionally do anything to you or her. I'm not threatening your dumb ass throne or whatever. I don't care about you..."

I was on a roll. "... I never even knew who you were until yesterday. It's not my fault you're so fucking weak that just a touch from me could destabilize you. If you're so humiliated, maybe you're not a real alpha. Maybe you're a beta or something."

Loud gasps.

I knew I'd done it now.

Lucian didn't respond.

His eyes flashed red as he reared back, flung his hand right at me.

The sound was loud.

The silence was even louder.

My ears were ringing as I collapsed on the floor in shock.

I didn't register the pain for a few seconds.

This time I was the one who raised my head to glare.

I glared at Marietta, then at him.

Lucian stood, his brows furrowed as if trying to understand something.

I didn't care what.

What I knew now was that I wasn't scared anymore.

No, I detested the hell out of Lucian Draven.
