Chapter 4 Chapter 4
Lucian's POV
In the council meeting, it was like they were carefully counting their words as they spoke to me. They were trying to placate me, trying to make me see reasons as to why I shouldn't target Reina.
"Why?" I asked, controlling my anger. "You all are aware of what happened."
"We're trying to protect you, Lucian," one of them answered softly. "Even we weren't aware of someone like her in the school."
"Yes," another added. "The reason we welcomed her was because we were told she was a witch and werewolf hybrid. From far away."
"We don't have any hybrids," the Headmistress reminded.
I leaned back. "So? Is she one?"
"No hybrid can affect a werewolf like that," they shut down.
I balled my fists on the table, my gaze focused on the Headmistress who had a serene expression on her face.
"Get her out, or I'll kill her," I ground out.
She smiled. "That's not possible, Mr. Draven. Some tests will have to be carried out first."
I scowled as I thought about it. "I hope you're talking about someone else. Dr. Gustavo has some problems with his tests."
The door was slammed open.
I didn't move an inch.
I heard a light laugh. "Mr. Draven, why do you have such distaste for me? I'm not crazy, I know how to treat people with dignity."
I raised a brow, standing up to face the man.
He was dressed in his usual lab coat, his eyes covered by his glasses and his signature smile present.
"I'd rather just kill her than let you have your hands on her to be honest," I admitted to his face.
He laughed hard.
"You're so funny, sir. But really... I'm not going to hurt her."
I was no saint. I'd had my fair share of killing and harming people, but there was a total difference from how werewolves acted to how Dr. Gustavo did.
Vampires were the least trustworthy.
"Mr. Draven, please sit down."
"No," I finally said, not bothering to give them a second glance as I walked out, purposefully bumping shoulders with Dr. Gustavo.
I really wanted this man gone.
I didn't expect the next day to end up being so chaotic.
I was in so many meetings. I knew it was because they were all trying to keep me in check. To prevent me from harming the precious human.
While I wanted her gone, I was trained.
I was going to control myself, until I couldn't.
But then I heard Marietta's scream just after I was done with a meeting.
I rushed forward, my blood boiling when I saw who was at the crime scene.
I was getting sick of her.
"What the hell did you do to Marietta?" I blurted. "It hasn't even been a full day and it seems like causing problems is a part of you, isn't it? Is your plan to kill supernaturals?"
It really seemed like it.
Nobody could ever put a scratch on Marietta and I. We were fucking werewolves. Who the fuck was this girl?
I didn't expect her to get angry and blurt out exactly what she thought.
I was shocked. My emotions were a mixture of things that I wanted to react to.
I didn't have to hit her. I didn't have to react like that, but I felt justified.
She was disrespectful. Hitting at my sore spots, spitting on my title as an alpha.
She had to be put in her place.
However, there was something I noticed after the fact. Nothing happened to me.
I was confused, my mind trying to make sense of it all.
Reina remained on the floor in silence, her eyes sending daggers.
But I wasn't the least scared.
I was curious to see what her next move would be though.
Then I remembered something as I got distracted by the sniffling sounds behind me.
Marietta gripped my hands hard and I wrapped an arm around her as I guided her away from the scene before us.
The crowd gave way as we left.
While at the clinic, I sat in silence.
I knew it wasn't over yet.
Reina's humanity wasn't a deterrent to how fierce she seemed.
Oh, well, at least her death would be fun.
That is, if she tried anything.
Marietta did nothing but cry into my arms, mumbling words I wasn't paying attention to.
I really wanted to leave the room, but it was my duty to make sure she was fine. Also, she was my friend before anything else.
"I want to kill her," she said with her usually soft voice.
I patted her back. "The council refuses."
She looked at me with teary baby blue eyes. "But-"
I smoothened her hair. "When they're done with their decision, be rest assured... she'll either be kicked out or die by the hands of yours truly."
My phone buzzed in my pocket.
When I got out of the room, I picked up the call.
Unknown number.
"Hello."
"Shouldn't you be here, Mr. Draven?" Dr. Gustavo spoke enthusiastically.
I was confused. "What?"
"Miss Clementine is here," he continued. "I thought you'd like to experience my expertise."
My eyes widened.
"I heard you got into an altercation, " he said. "Anyway, she's been out for a few minutes because she was being so erratic."
It dawned on me what had just happened when I checked the time.
"She's going to be awake in a few minutes. You wouldn't want to miss the experimentation, would you?"
I wasn't anxious as I got into the enclosed lab of the council moments later. I was never anxious. But something kept bugging me.
I stopped at what I saw when I was let in.
"Welcome."
Dr. Gustavo smiled widely.
My eyes bypassed him to look through the transparent glass in front.
I froze.
Reina was there. Bound and unconscious.
"Ah! She's waking up. Perfect!"
I couldn't say anything as I felt something inside me quiver. I didn't know what it was.
I didn't know how to feel.
I didn't know what to do.
I just watched.
