Chapter 5 Chapter 5
Reina's POV
My eyes opened to nothing but darkness.
The last thing I remembered was being carried away and then being unconscious.
I didn't know where I was, my body growing terrified.
I tried to move my hands and legs, but they didn't budge. I was tied up.
My heart started beating unsteadily as I tried to calm myself, but it was hard to do when this situation seemed familiar. I just couldn't remember it.
I immediately felt suffocated, and erratic, trying to get out of my bandaged situation. My senses were overcome by a smell I couldn't describe.
"Hello, Reina." A calm and respectful voice let out, through a telecom. "My name is Doctor and I'm here to... assess you. Don't be afraid."
My mouth was uncovered and I yelled, "Let me out of here!"
"We can't do that just yet, Reina." He sounded apologetic. "You've caused a lot of problems for two of the most important people in school so... it's necessary to see what exactly you're made of."
I was really, really scared now.
"The reason you're tied up is because... Well, we didn't know if you'd be willing. Anyway, apart from the health practitioners, we'll bring someone to keep you company."
A door was pushed open.
I turned to see three people in white coming in. And him.
"Lucian," I let out.
He was everywhere. I was sure this was his idea. All because of his fucking wounded ego.
I was angry, hatred clouding my eyes as I stared at him.
He seemed unperturbed.
I bared my teeth at him as he stepped closer.
God, how much I wanted to punch his stupid face.
He raised a brow. "You can't do anything to me, remember? You're human."
"Then why do you need to test me?"
He shrugged. "To be sure?"
I let out a string of curses at him.
He almost looked amused then.
"You'll be fine," he told me with a surety when he saw me tense as one of the practitioners brought a syringe over.
"And how would you know that," I forcefully snapped.
His stare remained. "Because I said so."
I didn't know why I was assured by his words, but I wasn't so tense anymore after he said that.
"I'll be fine," I whispered.
I was freed by nighttime.
It was torture moving.
I was so weak.
And I wanted to leave this damned school.
I was prickled with so many needles
I was told that I'd be fine later, that it was alright.
I didn't believe them.
In bed and in silence, I couldn't sleep after I was helped into bed by my curious roommate. But Gabrielle didn't ask any questions. It was just her eyes that were communicative.
We weren't close enough to share certain information, but maybe I needed to change that soon.
I didn't willingly fall asleep, my body still hurting despite the medication.
Despite what happened
But I was so exhausted that I couldn't fight it.
Then I had a dream.
But I didn't remember what it was about the next morning.
Days had gone by and I remained in bed. Gabrielle had been a helpful but quiet roommate.
I never knew what was going on with her and she never asked me anything.
I was finally able to get up by day 3.
I never knew where Gabrielle went so I wasn't able to go with her.
I got up with a ready mind as I walked alone through the hallway getting to class again. The whispers were hard to ignore.
"I heard she was tortured by Dr. Gustavo."
"Serves her right."
"I wonder what the results are."
"She could be a wolf."
"A mythical beast?"
"Or just a freak, to be honest."
"She looks so weak today, think she can throw a punch like last time?"
I wasn't scared or angry. I was exhausted though. But if anyone wanted to try me, I'd fight for my life again.
As I was about to get through the door of my class, I was intercepted by someone.
I sighed, aware it was intentional.
I opened my mouth.
"Move."
My eyes widened.
That wasn't my voice.
I turned to see Lucian Draven in all his glory glaring at someone other than me.
He didn't even look at me as he got inside when the person gave way.
I didn't know how to feel about what just happened, but I ignored it immediately. He definitely didn't do that out of the kindness of his heart for me.
I sat behind everyone else.
Somehow though, I found myself sitting beside Lucian.
I didn't know how that happened. Beside him was the only available seat and... nobody wanted me to sit beside them.
I kept getting glances and whispers and I knew why. They were waiting for something to happen.
I couldn't stop myself from glancing at him through the corner of my eyes, wondering what he was thinking. Why wasn't he doing anything?
Had he really let everything go?
Class was finally over and just as I was about to hurry up and leave, I accidentally brushed past him.
The instant my skin touched his, his eyes flared and his claws were at my throat before I could breathe.
I found myself on the wall, claws gripping fiercely.
His eyes glowed as he warned me with a calm voice. "I don't know what your deal is, Reina. But don't look at me, touch me or even breathe beside me."
I struggled to speak. "I... didn't do... anything."
I didn't understand the sudden change of events. He seemed fine minutes ago.
But now, he seemed angrier than I'd ever seen him.
"You're..." I struggled, trying to grab his arm. "... hurting me..."
He didn't let go.
I realized something. I pointed at his arm.
He raised a brow.
"You're... touching me..."
He let go.
I fell to the floor, coughing.
I moved away from him, watching him gaze at his hand in silence.
"The only reason you're alive now is because of the council," he said, instead of addressing what just happened. "I'm warning you nicely now."
Then he strode out.
I leaned against the wall and groaned. “What the hell was that?!"
I didn't know why I thought he'd changed somehow because of yesterday and today.
Right now, I no longer detested Lucian Draven, I hated him with passion.
And I would do as he asked:
I was going to stay the hell away from him.
Unfortunately, it seemed we shared the same classes. And I might still have to sit next to him again
