Chapter 7 Chapter 7
Reina's POV
Gabrielle wanted us to go to class together.
It was unexpected and suspicious at the same time.
Sure, she'd spoken to me sparsely and acknowledged my presence, even helped me a bit... That was about it.
Even her asking to go together... She didn't sound very genuine. She sounded indifferent.
"Why?"
I wasn't going to just go with anyone because I didn't have any friends.
I'd lived years without any friends, so I wasn't in deep need of someone in my life. I took people for what they were in my life.
She slightly tilted her head. "Because I like you."
I gaped.
"I don't have any friends, and neither do you. You're not the most confident person in the world, but you do have the guts to slap Marietta Swan and go against Lucian Draven." She tapped her chin as she walked forward. "My mother told me to make friends with strong people... with people similar to me."
I contemplated. "So... You think we're similar?" She nodded. "And that we'd make great friends?" She nodded.
Her expression didn't show much. It was so weird.
"Aren't you scared of-"
"Nobody bothers me," she interrupted. "There's a reason for that. One of them being that I'm a vampire."
My eyes almost popped out of my skull. How could I not tell?!
"But you look-"
"Yeah." She seemed impatient now. "Your answer?"
"S- Sure," I stuttered.
She nodded. "Then let's go to class."
And that's how my day went.
There were a lot of stares, but what's new?
Nobody bothered me althrough, and Gabrielle seemed really smart, so she helped me out a bit. She answered whatever questions I had and we walked around together.
It really was a nice day.
Noon came and I was called out of my dorm by someone.
Then I saw Dr. Gustavo waiting farther away from me.
I paused.
My eyes looked all over him in hesitance. His presence was so cold, even from afar. It was nothing like Gabrielle.
His smile, too, that was another thing I noticed. They didn't seem to reach his eyes.
I rubbed my eyes, stepping forward. Maybe I was just being ridiculous.
"Ms. Clementine," he began. "You look well. I love that." He turned around. "Follow me."
So I did.
He didn't say anything, the walk towards his lab quiet.
There appeared to be not many people walking about, so I was able to relax a bit. But Dr. Gustavo... He was such a creepy man. Even Gabrielle, when I mentioned him to her, told me to be careful of him.
She didn't have to tell me twice.
"Your results!" he announced when we got into his office.
He beamed at me and offered me a paper from his desk.
I looked down at it in confusion.
"There's a lot more papers to show you, but this is just the conclusion to everything," he explained. "The official reports are with the council. You'll probably meet with them soon. Anyway, it's concluded that you won't be expelled for any reason... You're very special."
My grip on the paper tightened, my eyes focused.
Werewolf...
Magic...
Witch...
Possible hybrid nature...
I raised my head. "What is this?" I whispered.
He smiled. "Congratulations, you're a supernatural being. Possibly the most powerful."
"I... I don't understand."
"And neither do I," he agreed. "But your blood is quite interesting. It matched with werewolf and witch, but there's another percentage of something else that's not human there... We don't know what it is yet but... I don't think you should worry much."
My hands shook. I didn't expect this sort of result. I didn't know much about the supernatural world, but I knew that this was something that just happened.
"What happened to Lucian was-"
"That's another thing that we're trying to figure out," he said. "But for now, this is the result."
"Are you sure?" I asked. "Am I really..."
I never had any supernatural experiences throughout my life. I'd know if I were some sort of super special being.
He seemed to notice that my mind was in turmoil and his smile slowly down turned. He now had on a serious expression.
"You're not necessarily a hybrid because your blood seems to be taking its sweet time, but what this result says is that there's a high concentration of all of the above, which has never happened before. What we'll do now is to figure out which one in particular you are... Or which will awaken first."
I nodded. "Okay."
His smile returned. "I have something to show you."
He took me to the magic tower. I didn't know what a magic tower was, but I didn't care.
I was there to follow him around and have him show me the important books on the different supernatural creatures.
That was when we met Lucian and his girlfriend. And an unfamiliar guy who seemed particularly interested in me, his eyes unwavering.
I watched as they were astonished by Dr. Gustavo's revelation. With Marietta here, I was sure she was going to spread it about. She looked like the type.
I knew this wouldn't change anything either. It's not like everyone would suddenly love me.
Lucian's eyes met mine as the doctor talked. He opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something to me, but he held it down.
I felt self-conscious under his gaze for some reason. I wondered what he was thinking as he stared at me but then I questioned my thoughts.
It didn't matter what he thought.
Dr. Gustavo turned to me.
"Let's go."
I hurried after him.
I wanted to turn to look at Lucian again, but I wondered why. We had no relationship with each other, so why the hell was my heart beating so hard?
"Your life is going to change drastically from today, Reina," Dr. Gustavo said with a grin.
I could see his excitement, and the excitement in his voice. I didn't understand it.
"Change now?"
He laughed. "Everyone is going to know about you soon... The council... The Lord of the house of Draven... The house of Caster... Evangelis... Ahh... It's all going to be a party."
My brows furrowed. I still didn't understand.
He looked at me and smiled. "Don't worry, you'll understand soon."
It was such simple words, but it felt ominous.
Something told me that everyone knowing about me wasn't going to be a good thing. And that a lot of things in my life were going to go awry.
I didn't know if I was prepared for that yet.
