Chapter 7 7
Isabella.
He scans me from head to toe before he walks toward the large doors. The guards standing there gave a sharp nod and push them open, revealing the event hall beyond. I trail after Blaze, nerves twisting in my stomach as we step inside.
The room is buzzing with life. Laughter, chatter, and the occasional clink of glasses create a soft din that seems to pulse with energy. The hall itself is impressive but not overly extravagant, polished wooden floors gleam under the soft glow of warm, suspended lanterns, and deep blue drapes frame the wide windows along one wall. Tables are spread throughout the room, each decorated with simple yet elegant centerpieces of white lilies and silver accents.
As we enter, conversations fade, and heads turn our way. A wave of whispers rolls through the crowd, eyes scanning me with curiosity and excitement. My breath catches for a moment, and I try to keep my expression calm, fighting the urge to fidget under their stares. The weight of their expectations hangs heavy in the air.
Lily, always poised and welcoming, steps forward with a bright smile. Her dress is a soft cream color, flowing gracefully around her as she approaches. She reaches out to me, her hand warm and reassuring.
“Isabella,” she says warmly, “come, there are so many people who have been waiting to meet you.” Her voice carries over the quieting room, and I feel a rush of gratitude for her confident presence.
The guests, dressed in everything from modest suits to more elaborate gowns, begin to gather closer. A few of the older pack members exchange glances, their expressions softening as they look at me with something like approval. An elderly man with snow-white hair and kind eyes steps forward first, offering a gentle nod.
“Welcome, Luna,” he says, his voice deep and slightly hoarse. “We’ve waited a long time for this day.”
A smile tugs at my lips, and I manage a small nod. “Thank you. I’m honored to be here with all of you.”
The crowd loosens up at that, the tension in the air easing as murmurs of approval spread. Lily takes me from group to group, introducing me to warriors with serious faces who soften as they speak, to parents holding young children who peek out shyly from behind their legs, and to elders who grasp my hands and tell me stories about the pack’s past with misty eyes.
Every now and then, I feel Blaze’s eyes on me. His gaze is sharp and calculating, a silent observer watching my every move. I make a point not to turn his way, keeping my attention firmly on the people around me. It’s not that I don’t notice him, it’s impossible not to, but tonight isn’t about the silent tug of tension between us. It’s about showing the pack that I am here and ready to stand with them.
A sudden burst of laughter catches my attention, and I glance over to see a group of teenage pack members who are giggling behind their hands as one of them, a boy with messy brown hair, gives me a thumbs-up. I chuckle softly and give him a nod, which makes them laugh harder, their youthful energy infectiously bright.
One of the senior warriors, a burly man with a weathered face and a scar cutting across his brow, steps forward next. He looks me up and down before nodding firmly. “We’ll be stronger with you here, Luna,” he says, a hint of pride in his voice.
“Thank you,” I reply, meeting his eyes. “That means a lot coming from you.”
He breaks into a smile, one that crinkles the corners of his eyes, and claps another warrior on the back. The room starts to fill with conversations again, the initial tension melting into a steady hum of warmth and acceptance.
Despite the positive shift, Blaze's gaze remains on me, relentless. I can almost feel him trying to gauge how I’m handling this, whether I’ll falter or stand tall. I square my shoulders, forcing myself to stay present, a polite smile on my face as I continue to greet pack members.
The more people I meet, the more I sense the weight of their hopes. It’s daunting but also energizing. This is their first chance to see their Luna, to decide for themselves if I’m worthy of their trust. And as I move through the room, handshakes and smiles passing between us, I feel a spark of determination solidify inside me.
Tonight isn’t just an introduction; it’s the start of something new, something powerful. I meet each pair of eyes with the silent promise that I will not let them down.
I took a slow breath as I stood beside Blaze, trying my best not to let the hundreds of eyes staring at me make me nervous.
The hall had gone calmer, but it wasn’t completely silent. I could still hear people whispering among themselves, their voices low enough that I couldn’t make out every word. Some people smiled at me. Others looked curious. A few looked at me like they were trying to decide whether I was worthy of standing beside their Alpha.
I couldn’t blame them because I was a stranger to them. I was Roland’s daughter and whether I liked it or not, that name followed me everywhere.
Blaze stood beside me with his usual calm expression, looking as though nothing in the world could shake him. He looked completely comfortable in front of his people, while I felt like my heart was trying to escape from my chest.
I swallowed and straightened my back.
I refused to look afraid.
I had already been forced into this position. I had been dragged away from my home, my mother was gone, and I had been thrown into a pack where I barely knew anyone. I had every reason to be scared.
But I wouldn’t give these people a reason to think I was weak.
