Chapter 70
"What?" I asked stupidly, not sure I had heard him right. It had sounded like he said 'mate,' but that couldn't possibly be it. I wasn't that lucky. I had never been blessed by the Moon Goddess. Honestly, I had often wondered if she had forgotten about me.
"You're my mate," Athur repeated, a wide grin on his face. He winced as he pulled himself into a seated position.
"What?" I asked again because I honestly could not comprehend what I was hearing.
Do you know any word other than 'what'? YOU.ARE.HIS.MATE. And I would like to take this time to point out that I was right…again, Lily said and I could hear the righteous arrogance in her tone.
"Mate," I breathed out and Arthur pulled me to him so that I was now sitting in his lap. I curled into him and looked inside myself. Lily was waiting for me and she lifted a paw for me to inspect.
Tied around her leg was a glittering silver string, interwoven with forest green and cinnamon brown threads. I touched it. It was warm in my hands, much warmer than a string ought to be.
I gave it a gentle tug and Arthur hummed above me. "If you keep doing that, little wolf, this moment is going to end quite differently than I intended."
The thread pulled tight in my hands as Arthur tugged on it from his end. The feeling went straight to the center of me and I gasped.
"Hmmm. I wonder what would happen if I did this," Arthur said and I felt the ghost of his tongue run over my clit. I jumped in his arms and he grunted in pain.
"I'm sorry!" I cried, but he just chuckled and brushed it off.
"It was worth it. This has endless possibilities. I can do that no matter how far apart we are. When you're least expecting it," he whispered into my ear and goosebumps erupted over my arms.
The thought of Arthur giving me such pleasure without even being in the room made me shiver with anticipation. I had never been an exhibitionist before, but Arthur always made me want things I had never wanted before. And the fact that it could happen at any time, whenever he desired, made my thighs clench together.
Arthur nibbled on my ear. "You're such a naughty little wolf. And if I weren't so out of sorts, I would take you here and now. But believe me when I tell you that as soon as I am able, we will consummate the bond," he promised, his words dark and hungry.
I shivered again. Once the bond was consummated, nothing could tear us apart. Fated mate bonds were one of the strongest bonds known to wolves. Nothing could cut through them once they had been fully formed.
We lay wrapped in each other's arms for hours after that, drifting in and out of sleep, carefully exploring the bond when we were both awake. Neither one of us wanted to aggravate Arhur's condition more than necessary.
"I have to tell the staff that you're awake eventually," I murmured sleepily, completely content in his arms.
"That can wait until tomorrow. I don't want to share you just yet," Arthur answered just as sleepily and I smiled. We were once again out of the fire. I drifted off to sleep in the arms of my mate and for once wasn't worried about what tomorrow would bring.
The next morning Arthur was feeling much better. He was able to get out of bed although his movements were still a bit stiff. Still, he could stand on his own two feet.
The staff were all too eager to take care of Arthur now that he was awake. I don't think I had ever seen so many staff come by before. It was like they all wanted to come and wish him well. I couldn't blame them. It had been a harrowing five days.
Arthur was barking demands left and right. I wasn't sure what he was planning, but I knew it was going to be big. Perhaps a ball since there hadn't been one in a while. All he had said is that he wanted to celebrate the mate bond.
When things had settled down a bit, I finally cornered him and demanded to know what he was planning.
Arthur smirked at me. "My father was right about one thing. This pregnancy has turned you into a little spit fire. I love it,"
I growled at him playfully. "Then tell me before you get burned."
He threw his hands up. "I'm too pretty to be burned. Fine. If you must know, we're getting married tomorrow."
I cocked my head at him. "We're already married."
"I mean, we're officially getting married. In front of the whole pack. And I'm not waiting for a venue. We'll do the wedding here at the estate. We have plenty of room. All you have to do is be there," he answered, beaming at me. His excitement was contagious.
"Won't the pack be mad at such short notice though?"
Arthur laughed. "I am their Alpha. They will do as I say and be happy about it. Besides, if they are mad, they can go fuck themselves. All that matters is me and you."
Arthur gave an affectionate tug on the mate bond. We had realized last night that depending on our intentions, different feelings would flow through the bond. Right now, all I felt was love.
His smile turned devilish and I didn't need the bond to tell me what he was thinking. "And then I fully intend to take advantage of our wedding night."
"I look forward to it, Alpha," I whispered against his lips before claiming them for myself. Arthur's hand went to its usual spot at the back of my head, deepening the kiss. The mate bond thrummed between us, heightening our pleasure. It wanted to be completed.
Arthur pulled back before things could get too heated. The look he gave me was equal parts love and lust. If I could bottle that look, I would. It filled me with such a warm glow that I never wanted to let it go.
"Be patient, little wolf. Tomorrow night will be here soon enough. In the meantime, why don't we go down to the spa so we're good as new tomorrow," he suggested offhandedly, but I didn't miss the mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Don't you think that would be dangerous?" I asked, lifting an eyebrow, but I was already heading out the door.
"I promise to keep my hands mostly to myself. Alpha's honor," Arthur said solemnly and I dissolved into giggles.
"But on a more serious note, I do have something to discuss with you. It's nothing bad and it can wait until after the wedding. I'm more curious than anything," Arthur said and his words did nothing to stop the rapid beating of my heart. What could it possibly be?
Arthur sent calm vibes down the bond and my heart immediately quieted. "Like I said, it's nothing bad. Don't jump to conclusions, little wolf. I just know that I might forget so I'll need you to remind me."
I nodded and we walked the rest of the way to the spa in comfortable silence.
