Chapter 80

Dana

After weeks of tireless investigation, Dana stood at the precipice of the truth, her heart pounding in her chest. The dimly lit room seemed to close in on her as she stared at the evidence laid out before her. It was a revelation that would change everything.

Roman, the man who she had once served and respected, was not who he seemed. He had royally fucked up and Dana was here for it. Her hands trembled as she held the damning evidence in her grasp.

She traced the lines of the incriminating documents, each letter a damning sentence, each signature a betrayal. It was a child, a living embodiment of Roman's infidelity. A child born from the shadows, hidden away like some shameful secret.

Dana's breath caught as she read the name of the child. Robert Brown. The very mention of the name sent a shiver down her spine. She had instantly recognized the name. How could she not? He was the whole reason Almara was a part of Arthur’s life.

Dana's lips curled into a wicked smile, a surge of satisfaction coursing through her veins. She could not believe her luck. Who would have thought that Almara’s sleazy ex-boyfriend was Roman’s illegitimate son? Her day kept getting better and better.

It was a twisted stroke of fate, a cruel irony that fate had dealt. The man who had once held Almara's heart, now linked to Roman in this web of deceit. Dana's glee was uncontainable. She relished in the knowledge that the tables had turned in her favor.

As the realization settled in, Dana's mind raced with possibilities. This revelation was not a mere accident; it was a gift, a weapon she could wield to bring Arthur to his knees. The ex-boyfriend, unsuspecting and unaware, would become a pawn in her calculated game.

Dana knew she needed to be careful, to play her cards right. She couldn't afford to show her hand too soon. She needed to bide her time, let the tension simmer beneath the surface. Arthur had no inkling of the storm that was brewing, of the tempest that would soon descend upon him.

Of course, Robert would need a lot of training. From what Dana could remember of her research of him, he was a nobody. There was no way he could beat Arthur in a fight, not even as Roman’s son.

Arthur had the power that came with the title and he had Almara. With his fated mate, Arthur had even more power than a regular alpha. He was almost unbeatable. Which meant that Dana would have to cheat just a little.

She could always slip something in Arthur’s food to weaken him just a bit. Not enough to where he would notice, but enough that it could give Rober the edge he would need to win. It would have to be enough. Her future happiness all depended on it.

Dana was sure she would be able to convince Robert to help. After all, he’d be getting what he deserved. Not to mention he would be able to get revenge on Almara. It probably frustrated him to no end that she got a fairytale ending.

Besides, people like Robert were greedy. Greedy and stupid. He would never even realize that he was just a pawn.

Robert

Robert's world had always been shrouded in the fact that he was a bastard. And not just any bastard. He was the bastard son of Roman Convington, the former alpha of the Hurricane Pack..

Yet he had never had a penny to his name. He was a secret that was hidden away. Even when he told people, they just laughed at him. Robert couldn’t really blame them. Why would they believe him?

It frustrated him to no end that he would never know the finer things in life like his younger half-brother. Arthur Covington had grown up with everything handed to him on a silver platter while he had grown up with nothing. As the years passed, Robert learned to navigate the world on his own terms, relying on his wit and an uncanny ability to manipulate people into doing what he wanted. Like he had with Almara.

. He never dared to dream of recognition or acceptance, seeing that his existence was a secret his father preferred to bury.

He was drowning his sorrows into a beer he could barely afford when his phone rang. He didn’t recognize the number. He almost didn’t answer, but curiosity got the better of him. Maybe it was someone calling to give him a job.

The voice on the other end of the line crackled with a mixture of authority and intrigue, belonging to a woman who claimed to be from the Hurricane Pack. She started off by saying that she knew who he was and that she had a plan to get him everything he ever wanted.

Listening intently, Robert felt a surge of emotions he hadn't experienced in years. Hope, purpose, and a burning desire for retribution danced within him. The opportunity to strike back at the forces that had kept him in the shadows for so long was tantalizing, intoxicating even.

As the beta laid out the intricacies of the plan, Robert's mind raced. He saw the threads of fate converging, weaving a tapestry of possibilities he had never imagined. This was his chance to take what was rightfully his. He was the eldest son after all.

The decision was instantaneous. Without hesitation, Robert committed himself to the plan. He would be the ghost that haunted Arthur's waking hours, the nightmare that would topple Almara’s happily ever after.. It was a role he had been born to play, and he would do so with a vengeance.

In the days that followed, Robert immersed himself in the preparations. He trained rigorously, honing skills he had kept hidden, waiting for the right moment to unleash them. Nobody knew, but he had been working out every day for the last twenty years of his life. Not only in his human form, but his wolf form as well.

He had no doubt that the fight with Arthur would be brutal, but he was pretty sure that he could do it, that he could win. He would take control of the Hurricane Pack. He would claim his rightful place as their alpha.

He decided on his own that it would be a fight to the death. He had no love for his half-brother. He had been a thorn in his side since the day he was born. If he wanted the threat gone for good, then Arthur had to die. Good riddance.

As the plan took shape, Robert's determination grew fiercer. He knew that the path ahead was fraught with danger, that the odds were stacked against him. Yet, he relished in the challenge, drawing strength from the knowledge that he had an ally, even though he wasn’t sure who his ally was.

It didn’t matter to him as long as she upheld her end of the bargain. He wasn’t even sure why she was helping him. Maybe she was tired of Arthur too. Robert laughed quietly to himself. He couldn’t wait to take Arthur down.
