The Whitmore estate sat behind heavy wrought-iron gates six miles up the ridge, buried deep in a dense forest of towering dark pines. The driveway was crushed limestone, crunching loudly and unevenly under the sedan’s heavy tires as Liam brought the car to a slow stop near the front stone steps.
