Chapter 4 The Search

Jaxen's Point of View

I strolled around my chambers like a lost soul.

More like I was searching for a lost item

I haven't recovered from the shock of Lila's disappearance. I wish I didn't have to send her away.

It wasn't enough to reject her on live Television; I still banished her from the pack for being too weak.

I was reluctant to accept a wolf-less human as a mate.

Not just wolf-less, but a total disgrace in racing

I had no idea that the same rejected Lila would return to stun the pack with her speed

She practically defeated Marcus, Ironhawl pack sprint champion, by a wide margin.

That was a flawless victory.

I haven't seen anything like that before.

“Yes, my Alpha,” Torin, my Beta, bowed before me. “You summoned me.”

“Yes, I did,” I replied with a stern glance at him and my hands positioned behind me. “Go summon the strongest warriors, comb the entire pack, and bring Lila home alive.”

“Consider it done, my love.” He nodded and left my chamber to assemble the other male wolves as I instructed.

After seeing the disappointment on my face, I bet Torin knows better than to return with negative news if he would rather not be beheaded for his incompetence.

Torin POV

“Now listen up, everyone. Who else is missing? Call the others. I want everyone assembled here now. A big task awaits us.” I roared at the male wolves while we awaited the others to join us.

“Would you mind telling us what's going on here? Are we preparing to wage another war against our opposition pack? Speak, my BETA. We are so curious to know why you called us,” one of the warriors spoke on behalf of everyone.

“Patience is a virtue. I do not have the luxury of patience to entertain your questions.” I flared up. The questions were starting to get on my nerves.

“Soon, you'll understand why I called you all out here when the others arrived,” I muttered succinctly as 5 other male wolves assembled with the others.

“You asked us to come. What's the problem? Is the Alpha distressed?” Romero asked me, "He pants heavily like someone being chased by wild animals.”

“Finally! I'm happy that you all decided to accept my invitation. You're not far from the truth, Romero. The Alpha is indeed in great distress. But we can restore the joy to his face again,” I finally broke the silence that stunned everyone.

“And what could be done?” Everyone exclaimed in unison as they widened their mouths in a fly-catching position.

It took them a few minutes to finally realize that.

"Just so you know, Lila was banished from the pack by Alpha Jaxen,” I said briefly before a deep pause.

I just needed to be sure they were paying attention to me. I wouldn't want to end up sounding like a broken record.

“But now, the Alpha wants her back home and alive at all costs.” I buttressed further.

“Yes, my BETA,” they all screamed in unison.

The shock on their faces could tell how serious the situation was.

The last time I assembled them like that, we were planning to invade another pack for a war in which we emerged victorious.

“Good! Now, let's go immediately.” I led the way as we marched into the woods as an entire squad.

Jaxen POV

“I'll kill Torin if he fails to come back without Lila.” I gnashed my teeth in frustration and prepared my punch to demonstrate how I intended to strangle Torin to death with my bare hands.

“I can't believe I rejected a good girl due to stupidity,” I cursed hard, spanking my forehead in the process.

Spanking isn't enough.

I deserve to be whipped in the butt for letting my fears get the best of me.

“What if she isn't found?” I lamented. It didn't take too long to refute the possibility. “No. I would never hoard such nonsense imagination.”

The pain of not finding Lila is beginning to scare me. Now, I may be forced to believe the moon goddess is becoming silent over my predicament.

“My Alpha, your food is ready. Should I get it for you?” One of the maids interrupted my thoughts.

“Don't be a bitch. I didn't recall asking you to serve my food. Can you just let me be? Get the fuck away from my presence this moment before I do something stupid,” I yelled at the maid.

“But…”

“Just go.” I snapped at her like a wounded lion ready to pounce on its prey. “I don't need any food. Why are you so daft?”

“I don't want anything. I just want to be left alone. I want you all out of this place this minute." I transferred his aggression to the other domestic staff around me while I bent my head in disappointment.

Too much for me to bear right now. This was the moment I wished he had his late mother around.

She would have stuck around and become my confidante. Quite unfortunate that she departed the earth so early and abandoned me to my problems alone.
