The words should have changed everything.
Instead, they destroyed her.

As guilt collides with desire and buried love refuses to stay buried, Ethan begins to unravel the past…only to discover that their separation was carefully engineered by someone who never intended to let them be happy.
With secrets surfacing, revenge lurking in the shadows, and Ava willing to destroy everything to protect her lies, Emily must decide if the man who broke her deserves a second chance—or if walking away is the only way to protect her son.
Because this time, the truth won’t just break hearts.
It will burn empires.
Chapter 1
The aroma of roasted chicken and creamy pasta filled the house. The dining table gleamed under the soft lights, the silverware neatly arranged, the candles flickering with a gentle glow. Everything looked perfect… just the way Emily wanted it.
She stood in front of the mirror in her bedroom, smoothing the hem of her wine-red dress. Her hair fell in soft waves around her shoulders, her makeup light and elegant. She wanted to look beautiful tonight… Not for anyone else, but for Ethan. For her husband.
It had been so long since they shared a meal together, laughed together, or even talked withou tension filling the room. Tonight, she hoped to change that.
Her heart raced as she looked around the room one last time. The soft music playing in the background, the plates filled with all of Ethan’s favorite dishes… she had thought of every detail.
Grace peeked into the dining room, smiling warmly. “Everything looks beautiful, ma’am. Mr. Blake will be pleased.”
Emily smiled faintly. “I hope so, Grace. I really do.”
The clock struck seven. Then eight.
Still, no sign of Ethan.
Emily checked her phone again, her fingers trembling slightly. No message, no call. Her excitement slowly began to twist into worry. What if he wasn’t coming? What if he forgot?
She was still staring at the clock when the doorbell finally rang.
Her heart leapt. She turned to Grace, grinning from ear to ear. “He’s here. Stay in the kitchen, I’ll get the door.”
Grace nodded, her face bright with relief.
Emily hurried to the door, her heart fluttering with hope. She took a deep breath before opening it.
The smile on her face froze instantly.
Her fingers went numb around the doorknob.
It wasn’t just Ethan standing there.
Beside him stood Ava Sinclair… her husband’s ex-girlfriend… looking radiant in a fitted black dress. And their hands were intertwined.
Emily’s chest tightened as her eyes darted between them. Ethan didn’t even look guilty. He stood tall, calm, as if nothing about this situation was wrong.
“Ethan,” Emily said, her voice trembling slightly. “What… What is she doing here?”
Ava smiled sweetly, stepping forward. “Relax, Emily. Don’t look so shocked. We were both hungry after work, and Ethan mentioned you’re such a great cook. Thank goodness you prepared something. I could perceive the aroma already.”
She brushed past Emily, dragging Ethan along with her, her heels clicking against the marble floor.
Emily stood frozen for a moment before forcing herself to close the door and follow them. Her heart was pounding so hard she could barely breathe.
Ava’s eyes wandered over the table, and she let out a small, mocking laugh. “Wow, Emily. You really went all out. All his favorite dishes too. How thoughtful.”
Emily said nothing. Her throat burned with the effort of holding back tears. She turned to Ethan, hoping… praying… that he would say something, explain something.
But Ethan wouldn’t even look at her. He moved to the table and loosened his tie, his face cold and unreadable.
“Ethan,” she said quietly, her voice shaking. “What’s going on? I thought tonight was just for us. I told you I had something important to say.”
He finally looked at her… but not with warmth. His eyes were sharp, distant, the same way they had been for months.
“What I have to say also concerns Ava,” he said flatly. “So she has every right to be here.”
Emily frowned in confusion. “What do you mean?”
Ethan took a deep breath, his jaw tightening. “Ava and I… we’re getting married.”
The words hit Emily like a physical blow. For a second, she couldn’t move. She couldn't think.
Her lips parted, but no sound came out. She just stood there, staring at the man she had loved for four years, trying to understand what she had just heard.
Ava smiled wider, stepping closer to Ethan. She slid her arm around his, resting her head lightly on his shoulder. “He means it, Emily,” she said softly, almost teasing. “We’re finally doing what should have been done a long time ago.”
Emily’s heart cracked in two. She could feel her world collapsing around her.
Ethan continued, his voice cold and emotionless. “I can’t do this anymore, Emily. I’m tired of this marriage. I’ve already spoken to my lawyer. The divorce papers will be brought to you tomorrow. I’ll make sure you’re taken care of. You’ll get a house and enough money to start over.”
Emily’s vision blurred. She blinked hard, but the tears kept coming. “You can’t be serious,” she whispered. “After everything? After all I’ve sacrificed for you?”
Ava let out a low chuckle. “Oh, come on, Emily. Don’t make this harder than it needs to be.”
Emily’s voice broke as she took a step closer. “Ethan, please… listen to me. I made this dinner so we could start over. I wanted to tell you—”
Her words caught in her throat. Her chest ached so badly she could barely breathe.
“I’m pregnant,” she cried out suddenly, her voice shaking. “Ethan, I’m pregnant!”
The silence that followed was deafening.
Ethan froze, his eyes narrowing sharply. For a brief moment, disbelief flickered across his face… and then his expression hardened into fury.
“Not this again,” he hissed. “Not another lie.”
Emily stared at him, her tears falling freely now. “I’m not lying! You can come with me to the doctor. I have the results—”
“Enough!” Ethan snapped, his voice echoing through the house. “You said the same thing three years ago, remember? You lied then, and now you’re doing it again because you think this will stop me from marrying Ava. You’ll do anything to keep me trapped!”
Emily shook her head frantically, crying harder. “Ethan, that’s not true! You believed Ava back then, but I was really pregnant! You never gave me the chance to prove it!”
Ethan’s face twisted in anger. “Don’t drag Ava into your lies again. If you think pretending to be pregnant will stop me, you’re wasting your time.”
He turned sharply and grabbed his keys from the table. “I’m done with this,” he said coldly. “You’ll get the divorce papers tomorrow.”
With that, he stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind him.
Emily stood frozen, staring at the door as her tears fell in silence. Her body trembled, her knees weak beneath her. The sound of his car engine faded into the night, leaving behind a heavy, crushing silence.
When she turned, Ava was still there… smirking, her eyes filled with satisfaction.
She took a slow step forward, her heels clicking softly on the floor. “Poor Emily,” she said sweetly. “You really thought a dinner and a fake pregnancy would bring him back?”
Emily glared through her tears. “You did this,” she whispered bitterly. “You ruined everything.”
Ava laughed lightly. “Oh, please. Ethan was never yours to keep. He’s always belonged to me.”
She leaned closer, her voice low and cruel. “Once the divorce papers come, sign them quickly. Don’t make a fool of yourself. It’s over.”
Then she smiled… that same perfect, poisonous smile — and turned toward the door.
“Enjoy your dinner,” she said with a soft laugh before walking out.
The door clicked shut behind her, leaving Emily alone in the silence.
Her legs gave way, and she sank to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. Grace rushed in from the kitchen, her face pale with worry.
“Ma’am!” she cried, kneeling beside her. “What happened?”
But Emily couldn’t speak. Her words were lost between her broken sobs.
Grace held her, tears filling her own eyes as she tried to comfort her.
The food on the table had gone cold, the candles burned low, and the night that was meant to heal her heart had destroyed it completely.
Emily’s cries echoed through the house… the sound of a woman whose world had just fallen apart.

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.
