Chapter 1 Debt

"You're Greg's son." Victor said and looked at Mason's ID.

"My father is Greg McHale. He owed you money." Mason said.

"He owed us more than money." Victor said and locked the office door.

Mason stood inside the President's office. It was his first time inside the Morningstar clubhouse. The room smelled like leather and oil.

Victor Morningstar was 32 years old. He was dressed in his black cut, his black t-shirt and his black jeans, his shiny black boots and his silver rings completed his cold, intimidating President look.

His tall and sharp features were a bonus to his looks. His hair was cut short and styled to the back. He was six three.

He stood in front of his big desk, waiting for Mason to talk.

Mason was 24 years old. He was holding his father's debt papers in his hand. His hands were shaking.

"Mr. Morningstar, my father's debt. I have his papers. I want to pay it." Mason said.

Victor took the papers from Mason's hand. He did not look at them.

"How much do you think he owed?" Victor asked.

"Two thousand dollars." Mason said. "It is written here. I can work in your garage. I am a mechanic. I promise to pay every month till it's all covered!"

Victor was quiet. He looked at Mason's face. He looked at Mason's last name on the ID again.

"McHale." Victor said. "You are Greg McHale's son."

Mason felt lost. No one had called his father Greg in ten years. Everyone called him a deadbeat.

"Yes. He was my father. He died last year." Mason said.

Victor walked to his chair and sat down. He opened his drawer.

"Your father was a founder of this club." Victor said.

Mason's whole world crumbling at his feet. He felt lost.

"What?" Mason said.

"Greg McHale. Founder. He tried to leave twelve years ago." Victor explained to Mason inside his office. "He said he wanted a normal life with his family."

Mason was heartbroken; he had just lost his mother three months ago. Today was supposed to be his twenty-fourth birthday. They were driving over to pick him up from the garage so they could all go out and celebrate, but they were unfortunately faced with a terrible fate.

His mother died instantly without any goodbyes while Mason was left alone. Now, he was orphaned and was on the verge of losing his only family name.

"My father never told me he was a biker." Mason whispered.

"He didn't want you to know." Victor said. "He wanted you to have a clean life."

Mason stood there, his whole world crumbling at his feet. He felt lost.

For twenty-three years of his life; this was the first time he was going to be alone, he had always been surrounded by his lovely parents. Now, he was orphaned.

But courage cursed through him when he thought of his mother; he was going to do everything and anything possible to see that his father's name was properly cleared. He can't let him die as a debtor.

"I will pay it." Mason said. "Tell me how much. I will cherish and fight for the only name the universe had left behind for him."

Victor looked at him for a long time.

"You can't pay it with money." Victor said.

"What do you mean?" Mason asked.

Before he could step back, an agitated young voice stopped him.

"President, prospect dorm is full." Jax said from the door.

Victor did not look at him.

"Make space." Victor said.

The man came inside. He was 24 years old, same age as Mason. He was dressed in his mechanic shirt and black pants, his shiny boots completed his look.

His tall and sharp features were a bonus to his looks. His hair was neatly cut and styled to the back, only two strands of hair were brought out on each side of his smooth face, just above his eyes.

He stood in front of Victor's big desk, waiting for his order.

"You are new?" Jax asked Mason.

"He is Greg's son." Victor said.

Jax stopped. He looked at Mason again. His eyes changed.

"You are McHale's kid?" Jax said.

Mason nodded. He didn't understand why everyone reacted to his name.

"You don't want to stay here, man." Jax said to Mason in a low voice. "Trust me."

Victor stood up. He was tall. He walked between them.

"Did I ask you, Jax?" Victor said. His voice was cold.

Jax looked down. "No, President."

"Then go and make space in the dorm." Victor said.

Jax left, standing in the hallway. Mason was alone with Victor again.

"How much?" Mason asked again. "Tell me the real amount. I will pay all his debt. Please take care of my father's name! I promise to pay every month till it's all covered!" Mason pleaded.

Victor opened his safe. It was a big black safe behind his desk.

He took out an old ledger. It was dusty.

He opened it. He showed Mason one page.

Greg McHale's name was written there. In old ink.

Mason saw it. His father's name. Greg McHale.

Under it, there was a number. It was not two thousand dollars.

It was one hundred thousand dollars.

And it was crossed out with a red line.

Under the red line, two words were written in Victor's handwriting.

UNPAYABLE - BLOOD.

Mason's hands were shaking. He felt lost.

"What is this?" Mason asked. "One hundred thousand? My father only owed two thousand. This time, I had a choice; I didn't get this much of a chance with my mother. What does UNPAYABLE mean?"

"It all depends on you, keep to your word. Good luck!" Victor said and closed the ledger.

Mason stood there, his whole world crumbling at his feet.

"I don't understand." Mason said.

Victor locked the safe. He locked his desk drawer. He walked to the office door and locked it too.

He stood in front of his big office, waiting for Mason to understand.

"You don't have to pay with money." Victor said. "You will pay by staying here. In my clubhouse. Under my roof. You will work in my garage."

"For how long?" Mason asked. His voice was shaking.

Victor looked at Mason's ID in his hand. He looked at Mason's face. His tall and sharp features were a bonus to his looks, but his eyes were cold.

"Till I say the debt is paid." Victor said.

"But when will that be?" Mason asked.

Victor smiled. It was not a nice smile. He stepped closer.

"It means, McHale, you will never pay it off."
