Chapter 10 CHAPTER TEN: MORRIS’ PROMISE

SHARON’S POV

His gaze was intimidating. He sat across from me, glaring at me in a way that seemed like he was reading my soul. It felt like he was unraveling all of my secrets and my past.

Helena stirred within me, urging me to run. But my body was frozen in place, almost felt like I had been paralyzed by his menacing gaze.

I felt this great urge to cry. And I would have if not for Morris’s intervention.

“Stop it, Kelly. You are frightening her,” Morris said and this “Kelly” looked at him with disbelief.

“What is so frightening about demanding to know who she is and where she came from? She would only be frightened if she knew that she was in trouble. For all we know she could be a felon, a witch or a mentally deranged serial killer.”

Morris tilted his head to the side, amusement and disbelief swirling within his amber orbs. He looked at me and then at Kelly.

“Does she look like any of the things you just listed?” Morris asked, and Kelly fell back on his chair, folding his arms above his chest.

“Looks can be deceiving.”

Morris sighed, shaking his head and lifting it like he was seeking strength from some divine being.

Morris shot Kelly a look and it appeared they were having some kind of silent conversation.

Morris turned to me and grinned softly. “Do not mind my beta. He said. “He's always wary and pessimistic.”

“It's fine,” I said quietly, bowing my head.

I could feel Morris's eyes on me, and knew he had a lot of questions and he chose the most triggering of them all to ask first.

“Your husband must be very concerned of your whereabouts. Where is he?”

Clenching my fists, I said, “I have no husband.”

His brow elevated slightly, and I could have sworn I caught some form of relief in his eyes. “Oh? Then I suppose your lover must be concerned.”

“I do not have a lover either,” I said plainly.

Morris's brows knitted as both anger and worry filled his eyes. Instantly, I knew what he was thinking.

“No, no. I was not defiled.”

My words seemed to have brought him great relief and Kelly an even greater annoyance.

“Then are you carrying some miracle baby? where the hell did it come from? Where the hell did you come from? Where is your family? You cannot continue to stay here until you give us answers,” Kelly said, his voice equally as stern as his gaze. If not more.

Morris growled slowly, anger slowly seeping into his veins. His canines sharpened as he glared at Kelly.

“I am the one who decides whether she stays or not. it is not up to you I am the king of this Kingdom, not you. I decide who is a threat and who is not. Do you understand me?”

The tension in the room was thick enough to be cut through with a blade. Suddenly, it grew hotter. I wanted to ask if someone had perhaps turned up the heater but I knew better than to ask that at this moment.

Kelly pursed his lips and bowed his head. “I understand, alpha.

He did not say a word after that.

Deciding that I have had enough of this, I decided to come clean. The last thing I wanted was to stir up trouble here. And besides, Kelly had every right to be wary of me.

A foreign pregnant woman does not just turn up at everyone's doorstep.

“I was mated to alpha Roland Martin. Alpha of the Jordan pack, the very pack I was born and raised in. It is his child I carry,” I said amidst the silence and Morris’s countenance fell.

“Oh,” he said. He was quick to recollect himself, however. Grinning slightly as he said, “I have had the pleasure of meeting Alpha Roland. He was rather…”

“Disrespectful, self centered, brain rotten man who only ever thought of the next woman he would stick his shriveled manhood into.”

The bitter words came flying out of my mouth before I could stop them. It was only a second after the last word had left my lips had I realized what I said.

Kelly choked on his coffee while Morris' face twisted with amusement.

“You don’t seem to be enamored by your mate,” Morris stated.

“I was. Until he made me watch as he fucked my stepsister and rejected me.”

The amusement vanished from Morris’s eyes that very same second. Even Kelly who was quick to chastise me displayed a bit of pity.

I sighed. “I am nothing but used goods. My family knew of their affair and said nothing, if anything, they supported it. They derived joy in keeping me in the dark and ensuring that I appeared a fool.” My fists and chin clenched, bitterness and spite coursing through my veins.

Inhaling deeply, I said, “I did not plan this pregnancy, but I suppose the moon goddess insisted on giving me a reason to live.” I chuckled dryly, fighting the tears that threatened to spill out of my eyes.

I could not let them fall here, right in front of them. I did not come into their home a complete damsel in distress.

It took a great amount of self control to keep me from weeping as I said, “I did not come here to be a nuisance to anyone. I just need a roof over my head until I can get back on my feet and search for a way forward.”

Neither Morris nor Kelly said a word instantly after that. Instead, the two men shared a glance. And once again, I was certain they were communicating through their mind link.

When they were done, Morris turned to me and said, “You are welcome to stay here as long as you need.”

I smiled softly. “Thank you, Morris.”

He nodded, his eyes vacant. But I could have sworn he had a hidden emotion, one that he did not wish for me to see.

“But I will make you a promise,” he said, and my brow hiked with curiosity. Nothing could have prepared me for what he said next.

“The next time I see Alpha Roland Martin, I will be sure to leave him impotent.”
