Chapter 6 CHAPTER SIX: HIS SCENT
SHARON’S POV
My body ached as my eyelids fluttered. The second I craned them open, they snapped shut.
Too bright!
It took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the light. When I could finally keep my eyes open, I noticed that I was in a strange room. It appeared to be some kind of infirmary.
The air smelled of all kinds of medication. There was the constant beeping of a heart monitor and a couple syringes laid out on the table next to me.
How the hell did I get here?
The last thing I remember was running through the woods. Why was I running?
It took a moment but when the memories came flooding back in, I wish they didn’t. The pain was renewed, swallowing me whole and weighing on my heart. Tears stung my eyes as I choked back a sob.
Everything from the past three days replayed before my eyes. Roland and Sandra having sex, their moans, their cold gaze when their eyes locked with mine, Roland’s rejection…
Oh, God.
My hand shakily covered my mouth as a wail escaped my lips. My arms wrapped around my belly and the memory of the child I carried for that man hit even harder.
How could I not have seen this coming? How could I have been so blind?
I hate them.
I hate Roland.
I hate Sandra.
I hate the moon goddess for giving me a proud, egotistic, horny, self centered bastard for a mate!
I hate everyone.
Suddenly, the door came flying open, interrupting my internal proclamation of hatred. Quickly, I wiped my tears away and recollected myself before two unfamiliar faces came into view.
One male and a female in a white lab coat.
The man froze when his eyes locked with mine. Shock filled his eyes like he had not expected to find me awake. But the woman smiled warmly.
“Hello, dear. I’m glad you are awake. How are you feeling?” She asked, walking up to the heart monitor to check on my vitals and reports. I assumed she was a doctor due to her dressing and professionalism.
“I am… fine,” I said, unsure if they were true. My eyes remained glued to the man, however. He stood beside the door like his feet had been frozen in place.
“I can see that. your reports seem to be getting back to normal. And your babies are doing just fine,” she said and my eyebrows furrowed.
“Babies?” I asked, and she grinned.
“Yes, dear. You are expecting twins,” she said. A moment of silence passed and I did not know whether to laugh or cry.
I do not know if this meant double trouble or double the blessings.
I’m carrying not one, but two of the children of the man who rejected me to fuck my sister?
The urge to cry became so overwhelming, but I couldn’t let it out in front of these people. I don’t even know who they are.
The man at the door cleared his throat before stepping forward. “I am glad to see that you are okay. My name is Alpha Morris Lee, alpha king of the northern wolves pack. One of my people found you unconscious on our borders.”
My eyebrows shot all the way to my hairline. I knew I had covered quite the distance when I ran but I never knew that I had crossed borders.
“My name is Sharon,” I said quietly, trying to process the situation.
He nodded, offering me a hand. My eyes dropped to it and stared like he was offering me some kind of poison. But what more did I really have to lose?
I accepted his hand, he shook it firmly. I marveled at the way his hand enclosed mine completely. There was this warmth in his touch, this comfort… I couldn’t explain it.
Or maybe I felt so because I haven’t had contact with another in days and I was pregnant and brimming with all kinds of emotions.
“Where are you from, Sharon?” He asked, his eyes inquisitive.
A part of me wanted to tell him the truth. But what help would that do? And what if they decide to send me back to Roland and Sandra? I am sure the two of them would happily welcome me back just so they could torture me.
My own mate… my own sister…
I couldn’t trust anyone from here on out. I was on my own.
“I am from around,” I said dismissively. “Thank you so much for catering for me- woah!” My words were cut short as I attempted to get back on my feet but suddenly lost sensation in my legs.
Morris was quick to wrap his arms around my waist to steady me. His torso pressed against mine and his scent infiltrated my nostrils. I could bathe in his scent forever, it was the most comforting thing I have ever perceived.
My wolf purred, urging me to bury my face in his chest. But that would just be weird. Like I said, I do not know this man!
Clearing my throat, I ignored the heat in my cheeks. “Thank you,” I said quietly.
“It’s not a problem. Are you sure you can stand on your own?” he asked, and I distanced myself a bit to see if I actually could. I have been running for quite some time, the strain I have put on my body requires days, if not a week of rest.
But I couldn’t afford such luxury at the moment.
“Yes, I can,” I said, putting some distance between myself and Morris. My wolf growled with disapproval.
After what we have been through she was concerned about rubbing bodies with some male?
Unbelievable.
“As I was saying, thank you so much for all of this,” I paused, gesturing to the room and treatment they had given me. “It was truly kind of you. But I am afraid I have to take my leave.”
“I can have guards escort you to your home, if you would like,” Morris said, his eyes intent on mine. Something told me that he didn’t want me to leave. But then again, that could be the fatigue talking.
“There is no need for that. Really, I am fine,” I said, and before he could say anything more, I left the room with a single question in mind.
What now?
