Chapter 2 Arrogant
Nate POV
I hate this fucking town. It’s drab and dreary and boring as all hell. I would much prefer to be back in my pack preparing to take over as Alpha but here I am on a wild fucking goose chase in human territory.
My parents are convinced that I’m the one who needs to complete this important work as the Prime Alpha Heir, but I’m not allowed be my true self to do it. It’s tedious work and there’s not even a decent looking she-wolf in sight. I also think this is my mothers way of teaching me a lesson for not waiting for my fated mate, and that this little trip to the human realm will help me find “something I don’t even know I’m missing”, but I’m not so sure. If you ask me, they just want to make me prove that I’m worthy of my title because I fucked a few she-wolves.
It’s taken two weeks to retrieve the manuscript we were looking for but we finally have it, which means we can finally, FINALLY, go home and I can get back to doing the actual work of an Alpha, instead of watching weak human women be harassed by even weaker human men.
And, the worst part is that no one even tries to stop the guy…What kind of race is this?
After thirty seconds of watching no one come to the aid of the pathetically weak human girl, I stalk up to the counter and end the issue. The guy looks pissed as all hell. In a way, I’m hoping he hits me, just so I can hit the idiot back. He’d deserve it. I mean what kind of man picks on a defenceless girl.
“Hey Nate, we’re pretty much done, you wanna bring the book back tonight or wait until morning?” Leo, my Beta, is as anxious to get home as I am, however, I think it’s more to do with the fact that we nearly got shot by some hunters a few days back when we tried to leave our wolves run in the nearby woods.
“Tonight, let’s get this over with boys, I can’t wait to get back home and not have to deal with these humans anymore.”
“Come on Nate. They aren’t so bad! And didn’t your mommy tell you, you had to play nice? Prime Alpha and all that… Bridge between worlds? Yadda, yadda, yadda…”
“Grrr…shut up Danny. Let’s get this over with.”
We walk back to the counter to see the guy is gone, and I notice the girl rubbing her wrist. She looks up shyly, Goddess I hate meek women, and says, “Thanks for the help back there, the copies are on me.”
“We don’t do charity, we’ll be paying. Maybe next time, try to keep the domestics with your boyfriend out of your workplace.” I hand her my card, and she looks at me in disbelief.
“He isn’t my boyfriend, just another arrogant asshole like you.” Then she hands my card to the other girl at the counter and walks away in the back.
I almost feel bad. My wolf, Atticus, even huffs at me in displeasure.
“That was kinda harsh, don’t ya think? She was really nice.” Danny is frowning at me as he looks after the little human.
“Give it a rest Danny, it was just some helpful advice…not my problem if she’s thin skinned.” He gives a me a disapproving look and turns to smile at the girl still standing at the counter glaring at us.
She hands him my card and receipt and shouts, “Thanks so much, don’t come back”, as we make our way out the door.
Lily POV
I’m pacing in anger when Maisie comes into the back room. “Well, they’re gone, and hella rich!”
“Good…can you believe that guy? What kind of an asshole says something like that to someone they don’t even know. Why even help me at all!!Wait…how do you know they’re rich Maise??”
She bends over laughing… “because, I decided to embarrass the jackass and charge ten thousand dollars for our services tonight, thinking his card would decline but it didn’t! It just went through, no problems at all…AND he didn’t even glance at the receipt. Just nodded and left. Asshole deserves it!”
“Maisie!! You have to correct that. That could be the guy’s whole life savings or he’s college tuition or money to pay for his dogs lifesaving surgery… we have to do something; we can’t just rob him like that!”
“Meh…if he wants it back, he can come back in. I’ll happily refund him once he apologises to you.”
“Maisie!!”
“Don’t…it won’t work…I have no guilt or shame! Let’s lock up and hit the diner!”
I have three favourite places in this town. The library, the woods and the little fifties style diner with old worn leather window booths and freshly made apple pie. Not tonight though.
As we walk in, I spot Abbie sitting with Bruce and his sidekick Mark sitting beside him. Damn it…this is all I need after what happened earlier and to make matters worse, Mark is glaring my way.
“You know, those guys aren’t from around here. You’d do well to remember that if you wanna stay in the good graces of the people here…you should tell your bodyguard to leave town…pronto…if he knows what’s good for him…and you.” Mark sneers at me as we sit on the opposite side of the booth next to Abbie.
“Watch your mouth, Mark. Lily didn’t even know those guys…it’s not her fault Bruce decided to be a dick and got called for it. Leave Lily out of it.”
Mark has always been quiet and aloof, but this is the first time since I’ve been here that I’ve seen him be nasty. He glares at Maisie again as he stands and says, “Girls like Lily here should watch who she’s talking to. We don’t want their kind around our town. And we don’t want anything keeping them here.”
“What’s that supposed to mean Mark? Huh? Their kind? Like Hot?”
“You idiots have no idea what THEY are…stay away from them. They don’t get to come in here and take OUR WOMEN!!”
“YOUR women. Last time I checked I didn’t belong to anybody, especially not some small town, backward jerk like you! I’ll see you at home Maisie.” I storm out of the diner in a rare temper and head straight for the Lucio’s pizzeria. It’s not how I planned to spend my night but at least I’m not stuck sitting between Mark and Bruce.
