When Ava opened her eyes again, she was slumped against the trunk of a massive tree.

Distant howls of alarm sliced through the forest air. Wolves were shouting—urgent, panicked.

“Over here! The injured one’s down the cliff!”

Her head spun. Her body ached as though she’d been trampled.
