Chapter 7

The next day, Juliet Hazlitt went to work as usual. Sure enough, nothing had changed. In the afternoon, she successfully signed the contract with Changhai Group.

As soon as Steven Hazlitt heard that the contract had been finalized, he sent people to get rid of Juliet Hazlitt.

When she went back at night, Juliet Hazlitt found that there was a problem with her car and it wouldn’t start. She had no choice but to take a taxi. By chance, she ran into Duanmu Ruoshui right at the entrance, who had just come to sign the contract.

“What a coincidence, Ruoshui! Are you here to sign the contract?”

“Yeah, I also said I’d call you and ask you to pick me up on the way home. Didn’t you drive?” Duanmu Ruoshui asked in confusion. The two families lived not too far apart, so they often went home together.

Juliet Hazlitt said helplessly, “The car just broke down. I’ll have to take a taxi home.”

A taxi happened to arrive. The two got in, gave the address, and started chatting. They didn’t notice that the driver wasn’t going in the right direction.

Suddenly, Juliet Hazlitt realized something was wrong. The path they were on became increasingly remote, and she had never been here before. She asked, “Master, have you taken the wrong path? We don’t go this way on our way home.”

Shangguan Ruoshui also noticed and said, “What’s going on, master? Please stop.”

The driver pretended not to hear and continued driving. The two passengers became panicked, realizing something was wrong. When they checked their phones, they found no signal at all. Suddenly, the driver stopped the car and ran away. Juliet Hazlitt and Shangguan Ruoshui looked around. Everything was pitch black, so they didn’t dare get out of the car.

After hesitating for a moment, the two decided to get out of the car and take a look. There were still shops in the vicinity.

At that moment, Todd Elsey also stepped forward to Juliet Hazlitt, smiling and saying, “Juliet Hazlitt, what are you doing here too?”

Juliet Hazlitt’s face remained cold and silent, offering no response to his words.

At this moment, Shangguan Ruoshui looked worried as she said quickly to Todd Elsey, “Todd Elsey, this isn’t a place for talking right now. Let’s leave quickly.”

Although Todd Elsey’s current attire is rather inappropriate, Juliet Hazlitt isn’t surprised by it. Perhaps this is just Todd Elsey’s natural behavior, or maybe it’s a habit of his.

“There’s a draft here. I advise you to leave quickly. This place is quite dangerous. If you refuse to leave, we might not be able to get out of here.” Juliet Hazlitt said, her eyes filled with coldness.

After all, she thought Todd Elsey wasn’t as stupid as his profile made him seem. But it was clear that he had no idea that the real Todd Elsey was completely different from the one described in his profile.

“Nothing much. I’m just walking around with you guys,” said Todd Elsey in a very casual manner.

Juliet Hazlitt frowned. He couldn’t understand why Todd Elsey was acting so strangely. He had seen Todd Elsey act abnormally on a few occasions before. Although those incidents had happened in the past, Todd Elsey’s recent behavior suggested that something was about to happen. Could it be that Todd Elsey knew that someone was planning to harm him? But how could that be possible? How could Todd Elsey possibly have any connections with those powerful forces?

Ever since Juliet Hazlitt saw what Todd Elsey had done earlier, she knew that Todd Elsey must be quite capable.

Soon, the group of people started walking back in the direction they had come from. Along the way, there was a wide main road, as well as a much quieter side path. But Juliet Hazlitt chose the quieter path. After all, a wide road meant a higher risk of car accidents. If she walked on the main road, there might be cars or people who could try to do something to her. In that case, it might be too late to avoid being hit by a car.

The quiet path led straight ahead. Although there were few people around, it was still possible that a few individuals or certain groups might have ulterior motives. But Juliet Hazlitt felt that she could easily take on a few strong men with her own skills.

But just as they entered the area, they noticed several young people sitting there playing cards. All of these young people were from Northern Europe. It was unclear when these Northern Europeans had appeared there.

But after all, there were also some Nordics who lived and worked in the Nanning factory. So Juliet Hazlitt didn’t mind them playing cards there. It was no different from old people playing cards in the park.

However, he didn’t notice that those people’s gazes were fixed on Juliet Hazlitt the entire time.

“Let’s take that path instead. It seems a bit closer from here. I’m a little scared,” Todd Elsey suddenly said.

Juliet Hazlitt frowned. She knew that the person who had caused this trouble was someone who feared nothing in the world. So why was he speaking like that now? Could there be something wrong with these people?

Thinking back to the information Shangguan had shared with him earlier, he could be sure that several of these young people were likely the ones who wanted to kill him right here.

At that moment, he quickly got out of the way as well. Juliet Hazlitt was about to leave, but she gave him a clearly impatient glance. Todd Elsey said arrogantly, “What’s there to be afraid of as a man? Neither of us girls are scared at all.” It was unclear what Todd Elsey was doing suddenly like this. Could it be that all his pretense of being sensible earlier was just an act?

But at that moment, a very clear voice was heard. Several Nordic men beside them immediately reached for the cards on the table and pulled out one dagger after another.

“This transaction is really simple!”

“This little girl isn’t bad-looking either. Could be fun to play with her.”

“Yes, that’s right. It would be a shame to die like this, wouldn’t it?” Those people were talking about it.

At this moment, Shangguan also realized that something wasn’t right. He quickly stepped forward and said arrogantly to Juliet Hazlitt, “Who exactly are you? Who sent you here?”

“Little girl, who are we? It doesn’t matter. But soon you’ll find out what we want to do. Someone’s willing to pay to take the life of the person behind you. If you’re smart, you’d better get out of the way. Otherwise, don’t blame me if I become rude.” The Nordic man at the head of the group suddenly spoke up.

Juliet Hazlitt had a cold expression on her face. With her years of experience on the battlefield, she wasn’t afraid of them at all. She said darkly, “You want to kill me? With you? Do you even have the strength to do so?”

But before Juliet Hazlitt could finish speaking, the Nordic man rushed toward her quickly. The dagger in his hand emitted a faint greenish-gray glow.

“Despicable,” said Juliet Hazlitt, her face grim.

But for these Nordics, this is exactly how they operate: killing people when no one’s looking is the easiest way. Why go through the trouble of confronting the victim head-on? After all, their main goal is to assassinate, not to fight to the death.
