Chapter 8
Juliet Hazlitt’s face suddenly turned pale. Although she had experienced various things over the years, this was the first time she had witnessed something like this. Moreover, Todd Elsey wasn’t exactly brave. Before the dagger could even reach Juliet Hazlitt’s chest, Todd Elsey covered her eyes with his hands.
With a loud thud, the Nordic man at the head was kicked aside by Juliet Hazlitt. He fell to the ground and couldn’t get up for a while. At the same time, the men behind him also rushed forward, surrounding Juliet Hazlitt tightly.
Although Juliet Hazlitt does possess some skills, over the past few years, due to a lack of practice, most of those skills have been wasted. Now, she’s struggling hard to regain what she once had.
“Close your eyes!” Todd Elsey suddenly said.
Shangguan now found Todd Elsey somewhat attractive. At the same time, he closed his eyes, believing that Todd Elsey would be able to handle this situation perfectly.
The Nordics with their long knives still hadn’t managed to subdue Juliet Hazlitt. Of course, Juliet Hazlitt was also drenched in sweat and likely wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer.
But just then, the sound of a city having been upgraded to the first-tier city suddenly echoed around. A man rushed forward and punched Todd Elsey. The punch hit the wall with such force that the man was sent flying through it. At that moment, Todd realized it was probably too late to do anything. He didn’t even have time to tell his teammates to run away.
Juliet Hazlitt had no idea what was happening in front of her at that moment. Todd Elsey told her to close her eyes, and she did so without hesitation.
But just then, a Nordic man quickly approached Juliet Hazlitt and the others. With a faint smile on his lips, he said, “Kid, I’ll give you a chance. Get out of here now. After all, your life isn’t worth much.”
After saying those words, the Nordic man tapped his fingers gently on the wall. Soon, a series of beeping sounds began to fill the air around them. When Juliet Hazlitt heard these sounds, she suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground, seemingly unconscious.
However, at this moment, Todd Elsey wasn’t affected by this technique at all. But the Nordic man knew that his method was effective against most ordinary people. It had little effect on those with strong wills. Clearly, Todd Elsey before him was someone with a strong will. Therefore, his technique had little effect on him.
At that moment, a faint smile also appeared on the corners of her lips. She said calmly, “I never thought you’d be someone with such firm will. Interesting, indeed. But do you know why I made them unconscious? Before the prey dies, the hunter must enjoy itself properly!”
As he said these words, the man also stared greedily at Shangguan and Juliet Hazlitt. Both of them were extremely beautiful, meeting his aesthetic standards perfectly. Naturally, this aroused special feelings in him.
Todd Elsey frowned tightly, his expression turning icy. What a fool to try to mess with Juliet Hazlitt. That meant this man had to die. If not killed outright, he would be made useless.
“This person must be quite important to you, right? But you simply don’t have the ability to protect those you care about. I’m different. That’s the difference in strength between us. You’re worthless, but I’m not.” The man said, smiling.
“Interesting, truly interesting. How dare an ant mock a lion?” he said arrogantly.
But it was clear that the Nordic man before him had no intention of letting Todd Elsey kill him right away. His favorite thing to do was to watch people’s expressions of despair. Clearly, if he did something to Juliet Hazlitt, this man would be utterly desperate. That would be a great opportunity to hear him talk about the paintings he admired most.
“You say you’re a lion? Heh! How ridiculous. Can even a tiny grain of sand shine?” Clearly, that Nordic man knew a thing or two about his own culture.
Just as he was about to act, Todd Elsey casually said, “Spouting all that to a sorcerer? Don’t you think you’re stupid?”
Todd Elsey’s voice was very calm, devoid of any emotion. Yet, for some reason, it was utterly terrifying to listen to.
And when he heard those two words, the Nordic man’s expression changed as well. He knew that so-called sorcerers were like black magicians who trained people to master various spells that could lead to certain death.
Hearing this, the Nordic man also quickly reached out toward Todd Elsey. But just as his hands approached Todd Elsey, Todd Elsey’s entire body vanished, as if he were a phantom.
“I told you, talking so much with a sorcerer is asking for trouble!” A gloomy voice, seemingly coming from nowhere, echoed softly in his ears.
At that moment, a cold smile flashed across Todd Elsey’s lips. As it approached, the person before him felt their body go weak and they collapsed to the ground. Zhou Shen, on the other hand, couldn’t muster any strength at all. He was a god of war—how could he possibly be afraid of such things?
But by now, the person across from him no longer had that calm, serene smile. Instead, his face was filled with panic. Fine beads of cold sweat slowly formed on his forehead as he stared at the person before him in terror.
“Who the hell are you?” the man said in shock. He had never felt such fear before. He hadn’t even used any of his strength, yet he had still been beaten into this state by the other person.
Meanwhile, Todd Elsey simply laughed lightly. Looking at the man before him, he said calmly, “Who I am isn’t important. What’s important is who you guys really are. You’re killers, aren’t you? Why are you targeting Shangguan Ruoshui? And who’s your employer?”
“Even if we die, we won’t reveal our employer’s identity. And if I die here today, you’ll face endless retribution. Your family, everything you have, will be destroyed.” The man said arrogantly.
At this moment, Todd Elsey’s expression turned extremely cold. To Todd Elsey, his family was his most precious thing. How could he possibly tolerate someone using his own family as a threat against him?
Todd Elsey slowly took out a pendant that emitted a bluish-green glow from his bosom. He waved it back and forth in front of the other person. After a moment, the other person’s gaze became unfocused and misty, as if they had fallen into a trance. At the same time, Todd Elsey smiled slightly and muttered, “Now go to the crossroads, find a truck, and get on it.”
