Chapter 2: The Dark Lycan

Five years after the banishment of Reese.

Myra looked at her phone, which was ringing, and could feel a headache coming on. She had just finished her first lecture of the day.

"Mom?" Myra called out as soon as she picked up the call.

"Remember to be home on time. We have to attend that ballroom event I told you about." Her mother reminded her.

"I know, mom." Myra said in exasperation. Why was her mom so insistent on it? She had tried reasoning with her mother so she wouldn't have to go to that event, but her mother was so adamant. She could only resign herself to fate.

Myra looked for a gazebo to sit. She was a loner. Thanks to the years, she had to undergo the bullying and mockery. She had no friends. She was actually scared of making friends after all that happened. Her best friend Reed, who happened to be her fated mate, had outrightly rejected her the moment he knew that she was wolfless. Could anything be more traumatizing than that?

She had a belief that no friend was genuine. She knew that she only had her parents as her support system. Without them, she wasn't sure where she'd be at that moment.

While waiting for the next lecture, she took out her phone and continued reading a novel she had started a few days ago. She was loving it.

"Hey, wolfless girl." Suddenly, a guy passing by called out. Myra felt her body tense up for a bit, especially when she heard the laughter coming from the guy's friends. She composed herself the next moment. She was already used to the jeers and all the negative things that had been said to her.

Later in the evening, as promised, Myra arrived home. Her mother had already prepared everything for her. Since she was the daughter of the alpha of their Crescent Moon pack, she had everything she could ever need. But she wasn't the bubbly and free girl anymore. She had shrank herself back into her shell. Her self-esteem was already destroyed to the fullest, and she was pretty sure that things would never go back to how they used to be. When she was young, she used to have so many people who used to dote on her. However, the moment they learned that she didn't have a wolf, all those people turned their backs on her. Now, they only looked at her with disdain and disgust. There were times she wished she could die, but looking at her parents' love and care despite all that, she always felt reluctant.

"Baby, let's go. Your father's already waiting in the car." As Myra was lost in thought, her mother called out.

"Coming." Myra said and picked up her purse before she followed her mother downstairs.

At the ballroom event.

"Who are those three that just entered?" A person asked as soon as they saw Myra's family enter.

"The alpha of Crescent Moon Park and his wife and daughter. " Another answered.

"Speaking of which, I heard that the daughter is wolfless. How is she going to become the next heir to the throne in that situation? Sigh." Another chimed in.

Myra heard all these. Her hearing has always been extraordinary. She clung onto her mother for comfort.

"I'm here. Don't worry, okay." Her mother assured her, and she nodded.

Just then, a few businessmen came to talk to her father, while other ladies asked her mother to join them.

"Honey." Her mother looked at her worriedly.

"Don't worry. Go on. I'm going to sit over there." Myra pointed at a corner. It seemed isolated.

After instructing her on a few things, her mother left with the other ladies.

Myra also went ahead and sat in that inconspicuous space.

Just then, gasps echoed throughout the ballroom. That was because of the figure that just made an entrance.

The figure was overly mysterious but absolutely powerful in the whole country. He was so mysterious that no one knew what he looked like. But he was just 29 years old. That made him the target of every unmarried woman. Rumor had it that he was the most ruthless and bloodthirsty man who went by the nickname "The Dark Lycan." The name itself sounded scary.

As he entered, all eyes were on him. He didn't care about all that, though. In fact, he looked for an inconspicuous place to sit, and the place happened to be almost close to where Myra was seated.

Just then, Myra spotted the two people she never wished to see. Who else could it be if not her ex-best friend and her cousin Lana? The two held hands and looked so in love. Myra scoffed. Just the following day after her best friend rejected her as his mate, he got together with her cousin. Was there such a coincidence in life?

To her horror, the two directly made their way to where she was seated.
