Chapter 4: The strange yet familiar pull
Myra was so busy on her phone that she didn't notice the commotion around her. She suddenly felt sharp gazes directed at her. She couldn't help but frown before raising her head to check what was happening. Then, she saw the man who had saved her earlier. Of course, she knew him. Who didn't know of the dark Lycan? She wondered why he was standing before her, though. Before she could react;
"May I have the honor to invite you to dance with me?" The man spoke. He had a beautifully deep voice. It was very enchanting, even to Myra, who had no interest in men whatsoever.
His statement stunned everyone into silence. Myra felt like she was mishearing things. When she saw his outstretched hand, she knew he was serious. Myra didn't even bat an eye when she answered him.
"No." This answer made everyone gasp. They felt that Myra didn't know her place. Otherwise, why would she want to offend such a dangerous man?
"Why's that?" This question once again stumped the people who were already complacent about Myra's situation.
Myra didn't say anything. She merely directed her gaze to her stained gown. Even though she had tried wiping off the stain, it still remained. How could she bear to let The Dark Lycan be humiliated?
"I don't know how to dance either." She stated her reasons clearly.
"It doesn't matter, I'll teach you." The man said. Before Myra could respond, she had already been pulled forward by the man, who led her to the stage to dance. Myra only came back to her senses after she arrived on the stage. When she looked at the people in the hall, she could see their shocked gazes directed at her. She really never liked the limelight. She felt quite uncomfortable.
The man was staring at the girl standing close to her and frowned. She was so small, even her hands seemed boneless. Coupled with her beautiful baby face, she looked like an underage girl.
Did she not eat well? After all, anyone who could afford to be invited to the ball was definitely not poor. That's just how the upper class works.
"Just follow my lead." After he snapped out of his daze, he noticed that everyone was staring at the two of them. Hence, he started teaching Myra the moves slowly. At first, she was clumsy because it was her first time dancing, but she later got the hang of it.
The man was somewhat amazed. It seemed like she was a fast learner. When his arm circled around her waist to bring her closer, Myra stiffened for a moment before she pretended like nothing had happened.
"Is this your first time dancing with a man?" The man didn't know why he asked this question. He just had a sudden urge to.
"Mm." Myra nodded. She was telling the truth. She had never been this close to a man as she was at that moment.
The man felt his mood get better. A smile actually flashed past his eyes.
So, this little kitten before him was still timid? Even though all those thoughts were in his mind, he still managed to focus on the dance.
Applause filled the hall after the song ended. Myra and the dark lycan went back to their respective seats. Myra could feel deadly stares on her, and she felt like running away. She hated such events. Anyway, since she had repaid his debt of saving her earlier, she felt that they were even now. She didn't owe him anything. When her parents saw Myra once again, they rushed over anxiously.
"Honey, what happened? Why were you on the stage with..." Her mother didn't dare say the name of the man. Who knew if she would die because of it?
"It's nothing. He just asked me to dance with him." Compared to her parents, Myra's reaction was so calm and composed. She didn't care who the man was. She had already stopped trusting people long ago, so it didn't matter now as long as she paid back his goodwill.
The dark lycan asked their daughter to dance with him? Who didn't know that that man never associated himself with women no matter what?
Her parents didn't know how to react to that. That man was incredibly dangerous. Was he eyeing their pack?
"Let's go home." Her mother said. Myra didn't want to stay in the hall either. She just wanted to go home.
When the masked man sat down in his seat, he frowned. He was deep in thought. When he first saw her, she was being bullied earlier. He didn't know why, but he just felt a certain pull. It was as if a force was compelling him to take action. He really didn't understand at first because he thought that maybe the two of them looked like the same kind of people. After all, he was also criticized and dissed by people. He just didn't care to defend himself. He was powerful enough. To him, he didn't care whether people believed in him or not. He just needed to instill fear in them. That's the only thing he wanted.
He knew what that pull meant. However, what was the moon goddess thinking? He didn't need anyone by his side.
So, as cold as the masked man was, he completely suppressed his emotions. He couldn't let any woman close to him!
But why did it feel uncomfortable no matter how he tried to suppress it?
Not getting the result he wanted made the man so irritated. He stood up and quickly walked out of the hall. He didn't know if he would suppress his bloodthirsty nature if he kept on sitting there. And hence, people who wanted to try striking up a conversation with the dark lycan ended up helplessly watching him leave in a rush. What kind of situation could have made him rush out in a hurry?
