Chapter 2 | The root of the problem

"Caroline!" called Damian in a stern voice.

I, who was in the room, immediately approached Damian.

"Why did you beat up Eliza? Just because she was waiting for me?" Damian asked.

Damian gripped my hand so tightly. Making my wrist red.

"It hurts__"

"Hurts? You just beat Eliza mercilessly. If I hadn't come, you would've killed him," Damian snapped.

I shook my head and tried to break Damian's grip.

"You should get punished!" Damian pulled my hand forcefully.

"Let go of me, I'm innocent. He did hurt himself," I tried to explain.

"You think I believe you? You're jealous because she waited in my room," he said.

"I didn't hurt her! She's the one who's out of her mind," I shouted as I tried to shake Damian's hand off.

Damian gave me a sharp look, then he slapped my cheek again.

"Watch what you say! Eliza is an educated woman," he replied in an angry tone.

"She's even smarter than you are," I was even more hurt when my husband complimented her.

"If you're going to be jealous, see what you're made of first." Damian snapped.

"Now come with me!" Damian pulled Caroline's hand again.

"No! Let go of me," Caroline shouted.

Damian seemed not to care about Caroline and continued to pull her hand.

I had a feeling Damian was going to take me to the back shed. What was he going to do?

"I'm innocent! You can't be like this; I'm your wife." I said with all my might, trying to break free from Damian.

"You're guilty!" Damian yelled as he slammed his hand against the wall.

I closed my eyes. "You didn't see what really happened."

"I did! And you did hit her. What a cruel woman," she said with no regard for my feelings.

"Why are you so worried about her?" I asked in a low voice.

"Isn't it wrong for you to talk like that? She's reliable, unlike you!" Damian said.

"When Eliza is sick, my work will increase." Damian pulled Caroline's hand again and forced her to go inside.

"Let go of me, I'm innocent. Listen to my explanation," I pleaded.

"You must sleep in this warehouse for three days as your punishment," Damian said.

"No!" Of course I refused.

"I'm your wife, right? But you're overreacting to Eliza." I looked at Damian with teary eyes.

"I'm overreacting? You're the one who went too far. Maybe if I hadn't come, you would have killed her!" Damian said.

I wanted to slap him so badly; every word that came out of his mouth hurt.

He didn't defend me at all or listen to my explanation.

"What relationship did you have with Eliza?" I asked.

"What relationship do you mean? Of course it's superior and a secretary," she replied angrily.

"A superior would never defend a subordinate like this," I shouted.

"You even intend to punish your wife without listening to an explanation!" he continued.

"I don't need to hear an explanation from you!" snapped Damian.

"Obviously because you must have had an affair with that woman," I said, further angering Damian.

"Stop accusing! I'm punishing you so you don't become a cruel woman who hurts people easily," Damian replied.

"Lies! You must be hiding something."

I couldn't stand Damian anymore; why did he still not want to admit what he did?

I wanted to hear it straight from Damian's mouth.

"Get in!" Damian forced Caroline to go inside.

"I don't want to; don't force me!" I refused in a firm voice.

"You dare to refuse my orders?" he asked with a sharp look.

"You shouldn't be like this; she's just your secretary," I shouted angrily.

"You are indeed an uneducated and cruel woman," Damian said.

"I'm so ashamed to have a wife like you," he said as he looked disgustedly at me.

"I'm innocent! You're the one who's taking Eliza's side." I kept defending myself.

"Shut up! You're the guilty one here," Damian snapped.

Damian pulled Caroline's hand, then pushed Caroline's body.

"Ahhh___ it hurts."

I held my stomach as it hit the table; it hurt so much.

Damian didn't care; he locked the door.

"Open the door! My stomach hurts so much," I yelled.

I clutched my stomach, which really hurt.

Damian had already left; he handed the key to the barn to the maid.

"Open the door in the morning and feed her," he said and left.

"I can't bear the lady; she keeps screaming," one of the maids said.

"Don't open it before Mr. Sam leaves," he said.

"Please open the door!" My body was already sweating. I'm not lying; my stomach really hurt.

I was getting weak; before I lost consciousness, I saw blood coming out from between my thighs.

I realized that I was already in the hospital.

There were two maids who looked worried about my condition.

"Where's Damian?" I asked in a low voice.

"Mr. Sam still hasn't come home, ma'am, even though I've contacted Mr. Sam," he said while bowing his head.

I guessed that Damian must be with Eliza.

The doctor came over to Caroline.

"Excuse me ma'am, where is your husband?" the doctor asked.

"What's wrong, Doc?" I don't know why I felt so bad.

"Well, I'll just explain to you." I nodded my head.

"You had heavy bleeding earlier, resulting in a miscarriage of the fetus in your womb," the doctor explained.

Tears welled up in my eyes; I had a child but had to lose it immediately.

"How old is my fetus?" I said quietly.

"It's only been two weeks," the doctor replied.

"You have to be patient," said the doctor. I just stayed silent with a blank stare.

Damian and Eliza must pay for everything! They caused me to lose my baby.

The doctor had already left when one of the maids approached me.

"Madam, let me try calling Mr. Sam back." She was going to call Damian again, but I stopped her.

"No need," I said firmly.

"Let me go see him! He must be at that whore house." I shed another tear; I can't take it all in yet.

"My baby," I rubbed my stomach while crying.

I didn't want to stay still; I forcibly removed the IV in my hand. And ran outside!

They screamed in panic, but I kept running and didn't care about them.
