Chapter 4

Time flew. By the second semester of my senior year, Henry Young and I had been living together in an off-campus house for a year.

When I fell ill, he’d rush to the hospital with me in the rain without a word, staying by my side all night.

When my parents scolded me, I’d cry into his shoulder, and he’d hold me gently.

Our bond deepened.

Except for one thing:

Gold prices had risen.

In just a year, the price had soared from four hundred to nearly seven hundred yuan per gram.

My allowance was no longer enough to cover our expenses.

Too proud to ask my parents, I scoured job listings.

While tidying Henry Young’s desk, I spotted a recruitment ad:

High-Pay Talent Streamers Wanted, Daily Payment.

It was a lifeline.

As I reached for my phone to take a photo of the contact details, Henry Young appeared behind me.

“What are you doing?”

“Nothing, nothing.”

I brushed him off, worried he’d disapprove.

Though he never said it outright, I knew he’d be against me working so hard and exposing myself.

Following the address in the ad, I found the studio.

“Done live streaming before?”

“No, but I can learn.”

The boss raised an eyebrow, sizing me up.

“Not bad. Come with me.”

On the way to the audition, I caught glimpses of other streamers—dancing in heavy makeup, wearing skimpy outfits.

All in short skirts and crop tops.

I reluctantly chose a slightly more conservative skirt.

Half the stream was dancing, half chatting.

I’d learned K-pop dances before, so I thought it would be fine.

But after a few moves, I was stopped.

The boss adjusted my movements, making them more suggestive.

Exaggerated and seductive—obviously borderline.

Noticing my hesitation, he snapped,

“Even the worst day pays eight hundred.”

Thinking of Henry Young’s handsome face, I gritted my teeth and pushed forward.
