Chapter 2 CHAPTER 02

"If he knows what is good for him he will. Samuel will be happy to see you." Mom said.

Mom, dad and I sat down to have dinner,. But I was not very hungry.

"Koda broke the alliance with us," dad said.

"I'm sorry dad," I said not looking at him.

"Don't you worry Amelia. It was nit much of an alliance Alpha said. Koda took more then he helped. Word has spread fast others are now terminating their alliance with the Stone Claw pack." Dad told us.

"Because of me?" I asked him.

"No child, if he is not allied with us no one wants them. Dad said.

"Will that nit cause a war; they are much bigger then we are?" I asked.

"He dare not try; we have many allies that will stop him and put him in his place. He has disgraced himself to other leaders. Now Alpha would like you to start work in the kitchen. He remembers how wonderful your cooking is. If you wish to accept." Dad told me.

"I have no problem with that," I told him.

"Good you are to start tomorrow morning then. I will get you a new phone when I'm in town tonight." Dad told me.

"I will get you some money to pay for it. Working in the kitchen will help me pay for my keep." I told him.

"Rubbish, you keep your money. Make a nice nest egg for yourself." Dad said.

"Your going to town again?" Mom asked.

"I'm going to pick up some legal papers for Alpha. I will only be gone a couple of hours." Dad said.

"He takes advantage of you being a lawyer," mom said.

"Rhea he pays me well to keep thing in order for him. None of us want for nothing," dad said.

"May I be excused?" I asked. I had heard this argument to many times growing up.

"You barely touch your food," mom said.

"Go rest my girl you don't look well today!" Dad said. How did I suppose to look I thought getting up and taking my plate into the kitchen. My mate ripped my heart out in front of his whole pack. When I got upstairs I grabbed the bag I knew I had put my pajamas in and my book I had been reading.

I took out my hair brushed it then braided it again. I heard dad leave as I was going downstairs. I went to the kitchen and put the kettle on to make some herbal tea, my stomach felt off from all the stress. Samuel came in and leaned against the counter. He was two years younger than me, six foot two all muscle and brains he was one of the top warriors of our pack.

"I'm glad you're going to the kitchen maybe the food will get better when I'm working." He said smiling at me.

"I'm not making you peanut butter cookies everyday Samuel," I told him as I made my tea.

"Oh, you will, because you love me," He said kissing me on the forehead.

"Wishful thinking Samuel," I laughed.

"I have to go back on duty I will see you at breakfast." He said going out the back door. I went out of the kitchen mom was watching television. She turned to me.

"Do you want to watch a movie?" She asked.

"No thank you mom, I think I will just lay down and read the mystery novel I have been reading," I told her.

"Well you get some rest your father is right you look pale. Are you feeling ok physically?" Mom asked.

"I have just been tired mom," I told her. She smiled at me.

"Ok dear, have a good rest, remember to set your alarm for four thirty. " mom said.

"I forgot how early we had to get up and start making breakfast for six thirty. I laid down on my bed and read my book and had my tea. The tea helped with my stomach. It was not long before I started to doze off. I was startled by a knock on my door. I got up and opened the door.

"Here is your phone as promised Amelia. I upgraded to the best data plan; I got you the metallic pink one." Dad said passing me the phone.

"Thank you, dad" I said quietly.

"Anything for my girl you have a good sleep." He said and turned and went back downstairs. I took my phone over to my bed and took it out of the box. Then programmed my parent’s number into it. There was no other number no one else to call. I didn't have Samuel's number. I set the phone alarm and my clock alarm, then drifted back to sleep reading my book.

I woke to my alarms startled. I had not slept well. I had no idea what I was supposed to wear to the kitchen, so I threw on a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt with my joggers splashed my face with water then left the house quietly, so I did not wake my parents and headed for the pack house and the kitchen. When I walked into the kitchen Marg the head cook came over and hugged me. Others were already there starting breakfast. They all stopped working and stared at me.

"Get back to work breakfast don't cook itself," Marg told them.

"Where do you want me?" I asked her.

"You and me in the dining room, you can start lunch prep later." She said Marg grabbed the menu board off the wall on our way to the dining area.

"Sit I will get us tea, just a dash of milk if I remember right. She said going to get our tea. I smiled she remembered after six years how I took my tea. I looked around nothing had changed much. There were a couple of new televisions and a few new table. Probably replaced from fights that broke out during sporting events, men would be boys as my mom always said.

"You have no idea how happy I am to have the best cook back in my kitchen," Marg said passing me a mug of tea.

"Besides you of course," I said with a smile.

Marg sat down and erased the whole menu board the turned it to face me. I gave her a questioning look as she passed me the chalk.

"Start planning let's spice it up some." She told me.

"Marg?" I questioned.

"Don't Marg me your second cook." She told me.

"I never expected..." I started to say but she cut me off.

"Order from the top, and I could not be happier now let's get this done." Marg said. Together we planned the meals for the next two weeks. There was a lot of moaning and groaning when she put the menu board back up on the wall.

"Listen up ladies, this is Amelia she is second cook. You follow her orders. You best give her the same respect you give me understood? These are Alpha orders" Marg told them.
