Chapter 1 Unexpected Pregnancy

"Congrats, Miss Voss, you're pregnant!"

The doctor's words hit Lila like a ton of bricks as he handed her the test results.

She walked out of the examination room, trembling uncontrollably.

Another doctor was waiting for her outside. "Miss Voss, I've already informed Mr. Hart about your pregnancy."

Killian Hart!

Hearing his name made Lila's brow furrow deeply.

A month ago, following her employer's instructions, she had gone to a private club to perform.

But instead of a performance hall, she found herself in a luxurious suite.

She had taken this job to gather information for an assignment she had accepted on the dark web.

But as she was about to leave, the man on the sofa pounced on her like a beast.

His face was flushed, and those narrow, dark eyes fixated on her like a predator.

Despite her struggles, she couldn't escape his grasp.

Her gown was torn, and his hot lips left ambiguous red marks on her fair skin.

Her rationality faded under the room's intoxicating scent, and her body began to respond to him.

By the end of the night, she was nearly exhausted from his relentless assault.

After that night of chaos, he threw five hundred thousand dollars at her and told her to get lost.

She took the money and the pills he gave her.

Lila's shoulder was tapped, snapping her out of her memories.

"Miss Voss, I'll take you to get your medication."

The doctor smiled warmly at her.

Lila was stunningly beautiful, and it was the first time he had brought a woman to the gynecology department.

However, Killian didn't seem too happy about the news over the phone, and it seemed unlikely that the child would be kept.

The doctor went to get Lila's medication, leaving her to wait in the lounge.

Just as she was about to sit down, she saw a familiar figure in the distance.

Her nose tingled, and she instinctively turned to leave.

"Lila!"

Silas Thorne quickly caught up to her. "Why are you at the hospital? Are you sick?"

Lila didn't look at him and kept walking.

Silas grabbed her arm and tried to take the test results from her hand, but she avoided him.

"Let go of me," Lila said.

"Why are you at the hospital?" His tone softened, his gaze lingering on her face like that of a long-lost lover, filled with longing.

Lila let out a bitter laugh.

It seemed Silas wouldn't let her go unless she answered him.

"For a prenatal checkup."

She enunciated each word clearly.

Silas's face fell, and he grabbed the test results from her hand, his voice trembling.

"With whom? You've been abroad for five years, and this is what you've become?"

His voice shook, and he crumpled the test results in his hand, eyes filled with sorrow. "I told you I'd take care of you and your grandmother, give you a worry-free life. Why didn't you believe me?"

Lila replied wearily, "Worry-free? Silas, you're ridiculous."

They had known each other since childhood, and their families had even arranged a marriage for them.

She had looked forward to marrying Silas after graduation.

But then her family's company went bankrupt, leaving them with a mountain of debt.

Her stepmother and father took everything, and her grandfather died in prison from a stroke. Her grandmother fell ill shortly after.

Everything was sold to pay off the debt, and she couldn't even afford the two hundred dollars for her grandmother's IV.

Her life had fallen from heaven to hell in just a month.

And the man who had sent her to hell was Silas, the man she had once loved the most.

The first thing Silas did when he found her was to ask her to be his mistress.

"I may be engaged, but you can still be my woman." He said.

"Go to hell!" Lila slapped him hard, holding back her tears.

Silas grabbed her by the throat, eyes filled with malice and anger.

"You were just a pawn to me. I only got close to you to be with your sister. Now, you can't even pay for your grandmother's medical bills!"

Lila laughed bitterly. "Silas, don't celebrate too soon. Even if I die, I'll drag you with me!"

He had deceived her for so long, and when she was at her lowest, the Hart family announced their engagement to the Voss family.

If it weren't for her grandmother and grandfather, she would have ended her life long ago.

Since her mother's death, she had been sent abroad to fend for herself.

When she returned at eighteen, everything had changed.

"Fine! I'll wait for the day you beg me! Lila, in the end, you'll come crawling to me!"

Lila's heart ached.

She had once thought Silas would be her future, her support through the hardships abroad.

But he had been lying to her from the start, destroying her life.

"If you have any decency left, don't ever appear in front of me again. You disgust me!" Lila said, looking at Silas.

"Disgust? Lila, you're the disgusting one. You found another man and got pregnant with a bastard? Did you do it for money?"

Silas pushed her away.

"Yeah, so what? What does it have to do with you?"

She turned and walked into the crowd.

Silas watched her retreating figure in agony.

Killian's grandmother, Eleanor Hart, insisted on bringing Lila to the Hart family after learning she had been to the hospital.

By the time they arrived at Hart Manor, it was dark, and snow was falling.

Headlights flashed at the entrance as a servant hurried to open the door.

A man stepped out of the Bentley, dressed in black, his striking figure cutting through the snowy night.

Lila kept her head down, but she could still feel the intense pressure of his presence.

He bent down, his fingers gripping her chin without mercy, forcing her to look at him.

His voice was cold and indifferent. "I heard you're pregnant, hmm?"

Cold snowflakes landed on Lila's face.

Faced with Killian's questioning, she told him the truth.

"The test results do show that I'm pregnant."

Killian sneered, his dark, narrow eyes sharp. His grip on her chin was so tight she nearly cried out in pain.

"Don't think I don't know what you're after. You just want to be Mrs. Hart, don't you?"

Lila clenched her fists nervously. "I..."

Before she could finish, Eleanor came out of the house and interrupted them.

"What are you doing? Why are you gripping Lila like that?"

Killian let go of her, wiping his hands vigorously with a hot towel a servant handed him, as if he had touched something filthy.

Eleanor took Lila's hand affectionately. "How did the test results turn out, Lila? Are you pregnant?"

Killian shot her a cold glance, warning her not to speak out of turn.

"No, I'm not pregnant..." Lila replied.

Eleanor, disappointed, led her to the dining room.

"That's okay. You can have a child after you get married."

"Who's marrying her?" Killian's voice was icy.

Eleanor glared at him.

He sneered, enunciating each word. "Even if she were pregnant, I wouldn't marry her. Unless..."
