Chapter 12 Run

The impact is rough.

I hit the dirt awkwardly, my shoulder and lower back taking the brunt of the collision. A sharp flash of pain shoots up my spine, knocking the wind straight out of my lungs. I lie there in the damp earth for a second, wheezing, staring up at the sky.
