Chapter 4 Room 106 or not?
Brielle
The red-haired young man from earlier was shirtless on top of a girl, kissing her with heated intensity. I stood there shocked, unable to look away. His head whipped toward me, his eyes flashed with wicked amusement.
“Lost, little storm?” he drawled. “Care to join us?”
Before I could respond, he was suddenly in front of me, he moved with inhuman speed.
Up close he was dangerously beautiful. His tan skin was bronzed with tiny red scales that ran from his chest up to his neck. They moved each time he breathed. His red hair was tousled; it poured onto each side of his face.
And those eyes, those glowing crimson eyes burned into mine.
He leaned in, so close that I could feel the warmth radiating from his skin. Hot in a calming way.
“You smell… human.” he murmured.
“But it’s different.” I backed away. Was my masking potion not potent enough? It wasn’t possible. The masking spell lasted seven days.
A sharp pain exploded at the back of my neck. It was sharp and burning.
“What is wrong with you?” I shoved him back, touching my neck.
The girl on the bed shrieked. “Pyre!” She got up hastily. She didn’t bother trying to put a shirt back on. Her perky chest remained on full display. Her slightly ruffled blonde hair cascaded down her back. Her onyx eyes picked the lights from the floating candles on the ceiling. Her face twisted in annoyance and condescension. “How dare you lay those filthy hands on royal blood.”
I hated how she looked at me like I was something she could step on.
“Mr Royalty touched me first.” My voice was furious. He snickered, then he brought the tip of his dragon tail up to his nose. His eyes glowed a lighter crimson.
He peaked his tongue out and licked it. Were dragons also vampires?
“Your blood is strange.”
“You are the strange one. Do you just attack anyone you see? What is wrong with you? Pervert..”
His eyes widened further, lips curled in amusement. “Sharp mouthed just like your magic.”
“You are the perverted one.” The girl with blonde hair and hazel eyes stepped closer to me, disdain written all over her face.
“You barged in on us!”
“This is my room, I have every right to barge in.”
“What?” She whipped her head towards the left wall. A name was imprinted on the wall. Zendaya Kineth.
She crossed her hand across her chest. “That’s not possible. You are lying.” I let out a deep sigh. I was too tired for this. Should I go back to the headmistress? No way I didn’t want to be around her. She didn’t even want me here and might decide to break into my head again, I didn’t have the energy to block her.
In a blink of an eye, he was in front of me again. Staring at me like exactly how greedy customers looked at coconut bread like a favorite snack.
“Let’s play a game, storm.”
“Brielle,” I corrected, adjusting my stance. “I have no interest in any game. Just leave so I can rest.”
“I get you are new but watch your mouth else you will hate your life in this school.” Zendaya warned. Then turned. “Pyre you can’t let her speak to you in such a manner. Permission to punish her.” She raised her hand up white electrical spark curled around her fingers.
“Stand down.” He didn’t shout, but it carried a dangerous glint that couldn’t be disobeyed.
Zendaya’s face shifted from hesitation to compliance. She sat on the bed with a hump, her eyes staring daggers in her eyes.
“Little fire,” he switched nicknames again.
Before I could refute. He placed a hand against the door trapping me in between.
“I want to take accountability for hurting you. Let’s play a game.”
I lifted my chin up in defiance even though my pulse was jumping. “I have no interest in playing any game.” My teeth grinded.
“I didn’t give you a choice.”
“Step back or I will blast you again.” I raised my hand to demonstrate.
He laughed, “You don’t want to make that kind of scene.”
He was right. I was exhausted, still half-drowned in grief, and standing in a dragon’s den with no allies. The last thing I wanted was more attention. But the alternative was going back to the principal, and I wasn’t sure I’d survive another attempt to dig through my head.
“Just an easy game. If this room is yours I will leave and you get to ask anything of me.”
He paused, then arched his brows and curved his lips into the most mesmerizing expression I had ever seen. “But if it’s not your room you leave and I get to ask anything of you.”
“Fine,” I said. “Just get it over with.”
“Good girl.” His voice dropped lower, more intimate.
“That’s it?” I asked.
He nodded. “What do you say? Are you ready?”
I lifted the card with my room number on it. “See this, room 109. Now get lost. I will keep my price for later.”
I never knew when I might need it. My mothers always said to keep your stakes for later.
He stepped backwards untrapping me. I stepped aside making way so he could leave. His expression hadn’t shifted. Instead he was more amused. Which was annoying.
“Don’t you think you are too quick to celebrate.”
He snatched the card. Then flipped it over. My eyes widened. “The logo always stays at the top, darling.”
Zendaya chuckled. “You were saying?”
I shook my head then pointed at him.
“Well.. you cheated. You already knew that I was mistaken yet you still sabotaged me with a game.”
“Do you have proof?”
Of course I didn’t. I scratched the back of my head. “Uhm..” I reached for the door handle immediately, pushed it open and ran out. To get as far away as possible.
I stopped, only after I was sure he wasn’t following. I squatted down trying to catch my breath.
“Brielle!” My head shot up to find a girl with Raven bouncy curls, smiling as warm as the sun. She rushed towards me, grabbed my hand and pulled me up excitedly.
“Do you know me?” I blinked. Unsure.
She palmed her face. “Oh sorry my bad! I’m Anya! Your name appeared right next to mine on the room board.” She explained. “I have been searching for you. Where did you go?”
My lips moved but I couldn’t narrate the kissing prince and the damsel in distress. She blinked at me expectantly.
“I got lost.”
She laughed. “I got lost too on my first day. Thankfully, I found you. Let me show you to our room.” She clapped.
“Oh.. Thank you.” I murmured.
She locked our hands together. “Knowing who you are wasn’t hard. You are the only new student today, and you made quite an entry.”
She stopped in front of a door and threw it open.
