Chapter 2 Chapter 2

ANELISA'S POV

The roses fell out of my grips, the gentle murmurs of the guests, the stroll of the wedding march all blended into a heartbreak that consumed me.

My eyes felt empty as I witnessed the depressing scene before me. The way he smiled at her, the way he looked at her, just the way he once adored me.

A jumble of memories flooded my head as my chest seemed as though it would explode.

His laughter, the adventures, the tranquil moments we stole together came bouncing back.

I couldn't move, and the door slammed against my face.

It's not true, Peris wasn't in town. I inhaled softly, letting out a giddy laugh as the bodyguards by the door gave me a queer smirk.

"You shouldn't be here, you've overstayed your limit" one of the bodyguards replied, but my mind was void.

Another guest came by, and the door slid open. Hastily, I sneaked inside, having the bodyguards on my tail.

However, my feet halted, staring at the two of them. They were kissing each other passionately, his hands on her waist as her body yanked on his.

I couldn't look away, my heart bleeds as she blushed.

It felt as though I was drowning in a sea of anguish, unable to decipher what was happening.

Tears clouded my eyes as I couldn't look away, watching my mate pledge his love to another.

"Who let this curse inside!" My stepmom's voice eluded the many voices in my mind.

"Oh no! Didn't you lock her inside?" My father's whispers grew loud like venom, but I just wanted to hear Peris. It still didn't feel real.

Peris and Hypatia stared at me, no remorse in their eyes, like they'd always wanted this.

A sided smile was suspended on his lips as his eyes scrutinized me with disdain.

The murmurs grew loud as pups ran to hide behind their mothers.

Scornful words were thrown in the air and only tears streamed down my eyes.

My body vibrates and the once romantic atmosphere turns into a facade of despair.

I felt weak, having no words to say but just wanting to pass out.

The bodyguards grabbed my hand side by side to drag me out.

"Why!" I yelled, with so much pain in my heart.

"You're a curse, and worthless after all," he coldly responded, locking his fingers with Hypatia.

"Take her out!" Father ordered. He just didn't want to see me close by.

"Peris! Don't let them take me!" I cried as the bodyguards dragged me out. All he did was turn his back against me.

I was thrown outside in the cold. The weather wasn't favorable as it had begun to rain.

However, I sat in that position, my eyes sullen and dull, while watching shoes of different calibers walk past me.

Some purposely let the muddy water pour on me.

They all had an umbrella to shield them and the only umbrella I thought I had to shield me, to guide me and give me a reason to live, was taken.

I wish to scream, everything was a lie, it hurts so much!

I held the tray which had some glasses of wine with trembling hands, motionless and fragile as dark rings circled my eyes.

My skin pale and worn, my eyes left behind a dull, emotionless gaze that bore into my soul.

My hair matted to my scalp, sweat trickled down my forehead as I looked like a dead soul hanging by the last strand of hope.

I sniffed as I placed it on the large table where my stepmom and father were with some vicious-looking men.

Three precisely, certainly for business.

Their eyes on me sent chills down my spine. Their wolf scent hits my nose hard.

It seems as though they were studying me, each step I took backward.

It was meant to be today, the day when he was to come take me away but I guess he'd be having sex with the woman he chose.

My breathing was shallow and labored. Even though I wish the world should end, it won't when I've got parents who would make me work myself out until death.

They all knew about Peris and I but they chose to betray me.

I was sick, but they'd never care, a fever was raging inside me.

Their lips muttered some kind of whispers regarding some bargaining and negotiating, but I couldn't think straight.

I could hear coins slamming on the table, my stepmom graciously blowing some air on her face with her hand fan.

"Is she worth the stress?" One of the men's crooks' voices rings and I flutter my eyes.

That was the only voice that rang in my mind.

"Look at her, she'd warm your bed, just the way you like..."

The tray accidentally fell from my hand as my legs moved backwards in slow motion.

This discussion was all about me all along.

My cracked lips seemed to whisper a silent plea as my heart rate increased.

"Anelisa!" My father's voice roared, but I didn't stop.

Every voice faded as I turned to my heels, walking fast, to leave the sitting room.

No! I'm not an item.

I'd just run away. I refuse to be sold. Hastily, I ran towards the dingy basement to take out the necessary items I'd needed to leave.

My eyes stared at the place called a room as I sucked my breath. I just didn't want to reminisce about the scene of yesterday.

I needed to escape this negotiation before thinking about my life over again.

Once I was done gathering some clothes in a stack bag, I ran out to leave the castle walls.

I became hypersensitive, avoiding coming across the soldiers and maids patrolling every corner.

I took a turn in the lobby, hearing my name from behind but ignored it, but my broken heart wasn't ready to accept the gate yet.

I was almost at the exit door when I suddenly felt a strong arm grab me.

It sent tingles on my skin, a sickening wave wells up in my stomach.

My body slammed on a broad chest and I could feel his heavy breath pouring on me.

That touch was so familiar that I melted and went breathless. The bag almost dropped from my hand as I was staring at him intensively.

It was him and I didn't realize he was in our pack all along, but he ghosted me.

Or perhaps, the scene between him and Hypatia was just an illusion.

He was really here to save me. This must be a relief.

The tears that threaten to pour out stream down flawlessly. His eyes narrowed in contempt, as though my presence was a personal confrontation.

His grip on me was fierce, and it struck me that I shouldn't give myself a reason to believe his presence.

"Peris" I whispered with teary eyes, but he pushed me to the ground.

My body clumsily hit the ground as it was so unbelievable that he'd treated me like trash already.

His eyes, which were once passionate and adored me, now glared at me like he'd burnt me to ashes.

I coiled myself to a corner, wincing as I had bruised my knee on the hard marble ground.

He is different now and I'm lost.
