Chapter 5: The Date with Carlos
Jaycee’s P.O.V.
After breakfast I decided to text Drake to et him know that everything was fine on my end, I just hope he is not looking for me. During my text with Drake my phone rings, it is Carmella. [Hello?] {Hi Jaycee, how would you like to go shopping with me and my friends, it also turns out that they are Garrett’s and Stephan’s girlfriends.] [sounds good to me, I would like to meet them. What time?] {Are you busy right now?” “No, just checking in with a friend.] [Ok, we will be there in fifteen minutes.] [Ok, I will be ready.] I hung up finished my text with Drake, but his last text is what concerns me. < He is looking for you, he still doesn’t know where you are. It would be better for us not to communicate, in fact I will deleting all of our messages.> I did not reply I thought it would be best not to.
I went to my room to touch up my make-up and to grab my purse, and as soon as I touched my foot down off the last step the doorbell rings. ‘Ding – dong. I answered it and sure enough it was Carmella. “Ready? I told them that you have shot gun.” “Great, you already gave them reason to hate me.” I said teasing her. “”they do not hate you, if anything they will be kissing your ass since you basically seal the dealing between us and your brothers.’” “No, I don’t.” “Well, come on, I heard you have a date tonight so let’s begin and get you home in time for it.” I walk out shutting and locking the door behind me. We got into the car, and we stopped at a little boutique on the main street in downtown Chicago.
Entering the place was surreal, I remember how I used to come in here with my high school friends a lot. We fell out of touch with each other because I moved to New York City to be with Bradley who they hate. They tried telling me that he was no good, but because I would not listen and I called them a bunch of liars we stopped communicating with one another. “Listen up guys, Jaycee has a date to night so let’s help her pick something that twill blow his mind.” She says to her friends. “Why don’t each of us pick something and have her try it on, whichever looks better on her she buys, and the one that chose it gets free coffee from their favorite café` for a week.” Shirley says as though this is a contest, but I guess it is if she turns it into one. “DEAL!!!! The other two shouted. I stand there as they go about their mission. One by one they come back and showing off what they have found in front of their bodies. I walk in front of them as I look over their choices, feeling the fabric of each dress then observing how short each one is, then I look at the color of each one. Finally, I grabbed all three of them and went into the changing room to try the dresses on.
Carmella knowing what my favorite color is chose a short baby blue dress with silver sequence decorating it, once I put it on I noticed that the front is too low in the chest area. Not too fond of it I went out to show the girls anyway. “So?” I asked. “Perfect!” Carmella said. Of course she would she pick it out. “Well, what do you think” “I it think that the front of the dress is too low in the chest area for a first date. Don’t you?” I asked them. Of course, Brenda Sue and Shirley agree since the dress was Carmella’s choice. I went back into the dressing room and changed out of the dress and into another this time a dark red almost like blood, I hate this color makes me think of my own blood from the beatings that I would receive from Bradley. I slipped the dress over my head anyway and zipped it up. Walking out I do feel more confident with the way the front is cut.
I walk out a second time spinning around in it. “Well?” asked Brenda Sue. “I don’t like the color, but if you take the baby blue dress Carmella chose and the design of this dress than I would definitely buy it.” I say truthfully. “Now what?” she asked. “Don’t worry girls I have one more.” I say as I head back to the changing room for a third time. The next one is more than perfect expect for the color, which is a light shade of peach, not that I have any problems with that, I just like the color Baby blue better. This one is just low enough in the front to leave some for the imagination, but it is backless which I do not mind at all. I love this one. Now to go out there and parade around in it. “I’m buying it!!” I say with pride and excitement, with confidence mixed in. After leaving the boutique we got into the car and to my surprise we ended up in front of a salon. “What are we doing here?” I questioned her suspiciously. “You are going to get your hair and make-up done by a professional.” Carmella explained. “My treat.” “I have money, and I can do my own hair and make-up, Carmella.”
“I know, this day is actually being paid by your brothers.” She explained again. (I was wondering why she took the dress out of my hands and went to go to the register to pay for it.) Not going to be able to argue with her any further I follow them into the salon. Getting home I just had enough time to put on the dress and jewelry before going downstairs to wait. The girls at the salon did my hair up in a French style braid where the end is tucked away under the braid, my make-up was done in a light peach with pink lip gloss. I put on my diamond necklace and earrings. Carlos showed up right on time and took me a fancy restaurant downtown owned by a friend of his.
He had the chef make a little bit of everything for us with a bottle of white wine. Dessert was a chocolate lava cake. Once he paid the bill and we left he then took me to my brother’s bar to finish off the night. Walking in we went straight to the bar. “Your drinks are on me tonight.” I just nodded my head as we took seats at the bar. Derrick approached us. “What will you have, beautiful?” “I’ll have a Cosmo.” “And you?” “Just a Molson, Derrick.” “So, I have to worry about Derrick now, not just Ricco?” He asked me. “What?” I asked him sounding and acting all innocent. “You what, Jaycee. It does not bother me though.” “Really?” “Really.” We accepted our drinks when they were brought over to us. “JAYCEE!!!!” I heard a voice that I recognized all too well.
