Chapter 5 Push Her?

Wendy's lips curved slightly in silence, not bothering to spare even a hint of emotion.

However, the doctor named Ethan smiled warmly at her. "Lady Wendy, we meet again."

"Three years ago, at the World Trade Center, you saved my mother." Ethan's eyes were full of sincere gratitude. "I've been wanting to thank you in person."

So it was him.

Wendy remembered now. Back then, she had just been kicked out by the Percy family, utterly disheveled. At the mall, she saw an elderly woman collapse and instinctively went to help.

What a small world.

She smiled faintly. "It was nothing."

...

Inside the car, the atmosphere was terrifyingly tense.

Felix drove in silence, his taut profile radiating an unapproachable coldness.

Rita sat in the passenger seat, sobbing carefully, trying to gain sympathy with her tears. "Felix, I'm sorry, I just... I just saw Wendy dancing with another man and got so angry. I was afraid she was deceiving you..."

As she spoke, she tentatively reached out, trying to touch his arm.

Just then, Felix's phone rang.

The sharp ringtone cut through the oppressive silence in the car.

Without even looking, he answered and put it on speaker.

Grandma Violet Talbot's energetic voice came through. "Felix, where did you run off to? There's a family dinner tomorrow. Remember to bring Wendy back. I haven't seen my granddaughter-in-law in days."

Rita's outstretched hand froze in mid-air.

Granddaughter-in-law...

The word pierced her heart like a needle.

Felix instinctively glanced at her and subtly shifted away, avoiding her touch.

"Got it, Grandma Violet." His voice was emotionless.

"Good. Don't you dare bully Wendy, or I won't let you off!" Violet warned before hanging up.

The car fell into deathly silence again.

Rita quietly withdrew her hand, her nails digging deep into her palm.

She knew Felix's grandmother, Violet Talbot, had always liked Wendy, but she hadn't expected that even now, Violet would still protect that woman.

Seeing that playing pitiful wasn't working, Rita's mind raced. She immediately changed tactics, wiping her tears and saying earnestly, "Felix, there's something I'd like to ask for your help with."

She sniffled. "I heard Dr. Thorne is exceptionally skilled, especially with heart conditions. I wonder if you could find her so I wouldn't have to suffer like this..."

Her hint was obvious. Felix glanced at her sideways, and seeing her sincere expression that didn't seem fake, his irritation eased slightly.

"Alright, I'll have my assistant look into it."

Hearing this, Rita's lips curved imperceptibly.

She had to keep this secret to continue pulling Felix to her side.

The two waited in the car for a while, but Wendy showed no sign of coming over. Rita simply got out and headed back to the banquet, blocking Wendy's path.

Her face had already resumed its proper smile, as if she wasn't the one who had just embarrassed herself publicly.

"Wendy," she stood before Wendy, her tone carrying a subtle hint of showing off, "Felix just promised me he'd use all of the Talbot family's connections to help me find a very important medical expert. It seems I'm still the one he cares about most."

Sophie rolled her eyes at this, about to curse, but Wendy stopped her.

Wendy held her wine glass, gently swirling the crimson liquid inside, not even bothering to lift her eyelids. "Oh, really?"

Her casual attitude completely deflated Rita's carefully prepared boast.

Unwilling to give up, Rita added, "He's willing to do anything for me."

Wendy finally looked up at her, her gaze calm and still, yet carrying a trace of knowing pity.

She suddenly smiled, leaning close to Rita and saying in a voice only they could hear, "If he loves you so much, why won't he divorce me and marry you properly?"

Rita's expression changed instantly.

Wendy continued in that cold voice, asking deliberately, "Or is it... that he simply can't perform? Are you sure a man who can't even satisfy his own legal wife can make you happy?"

"You... what nonsense are you talking!" Rita exploded like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

Wendy's words had precisely hit all her pain points and insecurities.

Yes, if Felix truly loved her desperately, why had he let Wendy occupy the position of Mrs. Talbot for three years? Why, even now, wouldn't he sign the divorce papers?

"Whether I'm talking nonsense, you know best in your heart." Wendy straightened up, a mocking smile playing at her lips. "Instead of showing off in front of me, you'd better go back and ask your Felix whether he doesn't love you enough, or... has the will but not the ability."

With that, she couldn't be bothered to look at Rita anymore and turned to leave.

"Wendy!"

Rita trembled with rage. Seeing Felix walking toward them, a flash of vicious calculation crossed her eyes.

She suddenly stepped back, her face instantly draining of color. Clutching her chest and looking utterly devastated, her voice was pitiful. "Wendy, how could you say such things... how could you curse Felix like that..."

Before she finished speaking, as if pushed by something, her body softly fell backward.

"Rita!"

Felix's expression changed dramatically. He rushed over in a few quick steps, catching her falling body just in time.

Holding Rita in his arms, he looked up, his sharp eyes burning with towering fury as he stared at Wendy. "You're not even pretending anymore? With her weak body, how could she withstand being pushed by you?"

Wendy stood there, not even moving an eyebrow.

She even found it somewhat laughable.

But Felix didn't give her any chance to explain. Carrying Rita, he rushed out of the manor without looking back.

City Central Hospital, VIP ward.

Rita showed no trace of weakness. She leaned leisurely against the hospital bed, peeling an apple while chatting with Grace, who had rushed over.

"Mom, that bitch Wendy is getting more and more arrogant! She actually dared to publicly say Felix can't perform, and used the divorce to provoke me!"

Seeing her daughter so furious, Grace quickly consoled her. "Alright, alright, don't be angry. Getting worked up over that ill-mannered orphan isn't worth it."

Her eyes turned vicious as she lowered her voice. "Don't worry, she won't be smug for much longer. I've already had someone investigate. She hasn't had any proper job these past three years. Without the Talbot family, she's worthless. I'll find a way to make sure she can't stay in Riverton City at all. Then she'll have no choice but to get lost!"

Hearing this, Rita smiled with satisfaction.
