True monster
"We have to kill the Alpha." Maya's voice cut through the silence, her eyes glowed faintly in the dark. Damien felt chills run down his spine, the way she said it makes it sound impossible, yet necessary.
"Kill him?" Jack repeated, staring at her like she'd lost her mind. "We don't even know who he is. How do you expect us to kill something we can't even find?"
Maya crossed her arms, she paced slowly across the dusty floorboard. " That's the point, we have two days before the blood moon rises, if we don't stop him before then, he will be unstoppable. The blood moon will give him strength you can't imagine and he's going to come after each and everyone of us."
Damien clenched his fist, the thought of what would happen on the blood moon rushed through his mind. "So we have to figure out who he is.....and how to kill him."
" Sounds easy." Jack muttered sounding sarcastic." How do we find a mystery wolf who looks like a shadow, and kill him with....what? Silver? Magic? A lucky guess?.
Maya stopped and glared at him. "Mock me all you want but if we fail Damien won't live to see another full moon, none of us will."
The room went silent, Damien looked down at his hands, he remembered how sacred they were when the Alpha chased them, and the hunters made the matter worse.
The next morning Damien woke up with an headache, he barely slept, the thought of the blood moon haunted him. When he finally stumbled out of bed, he heard his mother's voice coming from the kitchen.
"Another one, this town is getting scary. If this happens again, I'm afraid I'll have to relocate." she whispered, talking on the phone. " They found another body in the woods last night?"
Damien shaked his head, another person was dead, he already knew who the killer was.
He stared at Jack's worried face when they later met in school. "You heard about what happened last night?" Jack asked quietly.
" Yeah, we don't have much time." Damien replied.
Jack rubbed the back of his neck." I hate this men. Everyday someone dies and we're sitting here pretending like it's normal."
" Well, what do we do?" Damien slammed his locker, facing back.
"We figure a way to stop all this, we don't even live normal anymore." Jack shaked his head.
" You sound like it's easy, the Alpha isn't easy to deal with, we need someone strong, someone that can outweigh his power and smartness."
Jack smiled." That's why you are here, you're also a wolf."
Damien wanted to talk, but he didn't know what to say. This all started because of him, even with claws and glowing eyes he felt powerless.
That night, they returned to the abandoned house. Maya was already there, leaning against a cracked wall. She didn't speak at first, she only glanced at Damien then turned to Jack.
"You look worse than last night, everything okay." she crossed her arms.
" There's another body, do you think he did it?" Damien replied.
" Who else? He wants us to feel his presence, he wants to create chaos before the blood moon and he's not going to stop." Maya rolled her eyes.
" I can help you." Lyra walked in, all eyes turned to her, they were all shocked to see her.
"You, what are you doing here?" Maya snapped, rolling up her sleeves.
"I came to help, and what are you all staring." Lyra said firmly.
Jack let out a bitter laugh. " Help?last time I checked, you were aiming an arrow at Damien's chest. What changed? You don't just switch sides like that."
Lara didn't flinch."He saved my life, I don't forget things like that. I owe him." She turned to Damien. " If it weren't for him, I'd be dead and that means something."
Maya scoffed." Hunter's don't care about debts, you'll stab us in the back the second your friends come calling, you always put us at risk."
" I'm not like them," Lyra shot back, her voice cracked slightly. "Do you think I wanted to be used as bait? Do you think I enjoy being treated like nothing but a weapon. My own people left me to die but Damien saved me and that's enough."
" Did you hear yourself, you sound pathetic." Maya muttered, leaning closer.
" Drop the act, why are you here?" Jack asked.
" We all have one goal, to take down the Alpha. He's killing more people everyday and I know how to stop him." Lyra turned to Jack, her gaze hardened.
The room went silent, Damien believed her but he knew jack and Maya didn't.
"No," jack said firmly. " I don't buy it, you've been trained to kill people like Damien. I'm sure this will benefit you."
Lyra rolled her eyes. " Believe me or not I have a chance of defeating the Alpha than any of you could ever have."
" She's right, I think we should give her a chance." Damien muttered.
" Really bro, I understand you like her but..."
Damien cuts in. " Like who....? We all want the same thing that why I agreed she help us."
" You can't be serious," Maya growled. " She's a hunter Damien, she'll slit your throat the second it benefits her and I'm sure the reason why she's here it's because it's going to benefit her. What if you were sent by your hunter friends?
Jack's nods in support of Maya.
" You're all right but right now we have to deal with the Alpha." Damien replied, his eyes softened.
Maya snarled." You're making a mistake..... a big one."
Lyra coughed, interrupting Maya. " You way to find the Alpha? Fine. The answer you're looking for isn't in the woods, it's not out here." She stepped closer. " The identity of the true Alpha is within the walls of our school."
