Three-The Alpha??

Aria’s POV

“What has been up with you lately, Aria?” Dr. Meredith asked from her seat with a scowl on her face that never seems to ever go away.

“I don’t understand,” I responded, utterly confused.

“Your grades, they seem to be dropping—and no, I am not talking about the usuals when it comes to the field courses. I am talking about the courses you usually excel in, the courses you would need to pass if you want to become a pack doctor just like me,” she quickly went straight to the point.

“My grades? Is this about the test I missed last week? I am sorry, I was really sick and I tried my best to make it in time but I got here really late,” I quickly apologized.

“Please let me write a make-up test,” I added when I didn’t get any response from her.

She picked up a piece of paper and dropped it in front of me with a disappointed look in her eyes that scared me more for what it was about.

“You are a scholarship student, Aria. I am starting to believe you are getting carried away by everyone here,” she started as I picked up the paper, my heart dropping as I read through.

“Everyone here is either here because their parents are serving the pack in some sort of way, and if they are not, they are working hard enough to be able to pay up the bills—or they are offspring from the top ranks, and we both know you don’t fall under any of these categories. Your mum isn’t in any station in the pack, she isn’t paying any bills either. She simply goes to the human world and back with her little love, and we all know what happened to your dad,” she said, her voice softening a little as she mentioned my dad.

“You were granted this scholarship because your dad lost his life protecting the pack and because you are really smart. But it doesn’t mean you don’t have to maintain it,” she continued—but her words began to blur as my mind reeled over the sentence I couldn’t read past.

“I’m on probation?” I whispered, my voice shaky.

“Yes, Aria. I don’t usually sympathize with you students, but you are a really good girl and I tried to keep this away from the principal. But you aren’t getting better, and she can only be kept in the dark for so long,” she answered, genuinely sounding sad for me.

“You miss classes, you miss tests, and you are really bad at the field courses. There is no way to make it up for you if you are not meeting up in at least one aspect. The principal is giving you till the end of this school year to make up your grades, or you would lose your scholarship and you wouldn’t graduate with the rest,” she concluded, her words hitting harder than I would have expected.

Tears dropped from my eyes before I could even stop them. I can’t lose my scholarship. This is my only way out of that house—I can’t.

“Please, Dr. Meredith, I will do anything, please,” I cried, my hands trembling furiously at the mere thought of having to lose my one ticket out of that hell.

“You would have to get yourself checked because all these sick days have to come to an end. You can’t miss any more classes and most especially you can’t miss any more tests.”

I would have to devise a new means to escape Mum and Jack and still stay out of trouble.

“And I have a task for you too—consider this an extracurricular to help you make up,” she added before I could reply.

“Anything,” I breathed out.

“You would have to tutor someone.”

Tutor someone?

“Who?” I asked calmly. Who could I possibly teach in this academy? Everyone already sees me as the weak omega that has nothing to offer.

“That will be revealed to you in due time,” she answered, leaning back in her seat—a perfect way to tell me she wasn’t saying anything more.

“But—” I wanted to speak up, but a knock on her door stopped me midway. Her facial expression immediately changed like she already knew who was at the door. So much for being a wolf— I don’t even have the senses of the wolf. I can’t even catch the person’s scent like she did.

The scowl on her face deepened, and here I was thinking it couldn’t get any worse.

“You can leave now, Aria,” she dismissed, her eyes now focused on the documents in front of her like she didn’t just tell me my whole life is at stake.

“I will call for you when I am ready to talk further about the proposition—that is if you are interested. I am not forcing you, but I believe you should know what is best for you. I would only let you know who it is when you make the decision,” she added as I stood to leave, still staring at the paper in my hands with dread in my heart.

“Okay,” I whispered quietly. It didn’t feel like I had much of an option anyway. This may even be another reason to stay out of that hell longer than usual.

“Come in,” Dr. Meredith said quietly when the person on the other side knocked again, much harder this time.

I turned, heading towards the door, my eyes still reading through those words as if reminding myself of everything at stake.

“Watch where you are going, you bitch,” a deep male voice swore out with disgust as I accidentally collided into his rigid chest, catching myself before I could fall.

I immediately looked up, my breath hitching in my throat as I took him in. A jolt of electricity coursed through me, going straight to my lady parts as he pulled his hand away from my arm—a feeling that was totally new to me.

“What? Cat got your tongue? Can’t you apologize?” he spat, pure rage and irritation in his eyes like he couldn’t even believe someone like me could bump into him.

It didn’t even seem like he was feeling anything like what I was currently feeling. I could feel the aura and power radiating off him—even as a weak wolf, I felt it. Stronger than the power that usually radiates off Lev. He has to be one of the offspring of one of the top three ranks—most definitely the Alpha heir.

The Alpha heir is the only heir I didn’t know anything about because he didn’t attend the academy. It was rumored that he was being taught separately because of an incident that happened with his mother, but I never heard the true story and I didn’t care to ask Lev. The less I know, the safer I am.

“I am so sorry,” I quickly apologized, ignoring the look on his face.

“Of course you are,” he spat, walking past me without a second glance like he couldn’t wait to leave the same space as me.

My heart stung even before I could fully digest what had happened. I am used to everyone in this pack treating me this way, but his own hurt me more than it should have. What’s this feeling?

I moved my hand to my chest in hope of soothing the pain as I walked out of the class, my eyes immediately colliding with Lev’s concern and worry written all over his face as he rushed over to me.

Something is wrong with me…
