Four- Kael

Kael’s POV

”A tutor?” I spat, irritated.

”Yes, Kael, a tutor,” Meredith answered in a bored tone, like she couldn’t wait for me to leave.

”I don’t need another tutor, I am fine,” I argued, my skin crawling at the thought of having any more tutors. Ever since I stopped coming to the academy, my father has made it his life mission to bring the academy to me. He is always bringing in a new tutor whenever I successfully get one to quit. He just doesn't get it. I don’t need any of these; all I care about is my mum.

”Well, Kael, this person isn’t like the usual tutors you are used to,” she said, leaning back and folding her arms across her chest, a knowing look in her eyes like she knew she was about to say something I was really going to hate.

“And what exactly sets this person apart?”

“She is a student just like you,” Meredith answered, a knowing look on her face.

”Wait, what?” I roared, standing up abruptly in anger, causing the chair I was previously sitting on to fall to the ground. She had just implied three things at the same time—a fucking student is going to tutor me, and then it just has to be a freakin’ she-wolf that would keep throwing herself at me instead of doing what she is supposed to do, and it seems my father has pulled another stunt to bring me back here.

”A student like me?” I repeated, starting with the one that caught my attention the most.

”Yes, Kael. Your father has applied for your return here and you know very well that cannot be rejected. Your classes start on Monday,” she answered blankly, like we were discussing the weather. I have always known Dr. Meredith to be such an emotionally detached woman, but right now she has got to be playing with me.

”You of all people should know that wouldn’t work,” I immediately replied. They never learn. It’s been six years since I stopped coming here and yet they all won’t give up.

”It wouldn’t have been if the council wasn’t actively involved in this.”

The council? That old man has finally done his worst.

”They visited the academy earlier this year and when they asked of the Alpha heir and you were nowhere to be found, your father was sent a warning to either force you to return to the academy for your proper training or you wouldn’t become Alpha. And we both know you don’t want that.”

“They can’t do that,” I argued.

”Actually, they can. The council is in charge of all the werewolf packs, remember?” she said smugly, maintaining her straight face. It was obvious she was enjoying this and I am sure the old man also loves this. He has been trying to get me here ever since the incident.

”This can’t be happening,” I muttered angrily under my breath as I turned to leave.

”When you are ready to talk about your tutor and everything you need to know, you know where to find me,” she spoke up just before I could fully leave her office, the satisfaction she derived from all of this fueling my anger even more.

Dr. Meredith is our family’s personal doctor, which isn’t a surprise considering she is one of the best—if not the best—doctor the pack has. She has been the only doctor taking care of Mum since she fell ill, so she is practically family now, hence why she can even speak to me in the manner in which she does. We don’t have the best relationship; in fact, I have grown to believe she doesn’t like my rude ass, as she loves to say, but she tolerates me because of Mum, her Luna.

”Haven’t you done enough?” I yelled as I barged into the old man’s office, ignoring who was with him.

”Kael, have you lost it? Can’t you see I am in the middle of a meeting here?” Dad yelled back, shooting up from his chair.

”And didn’t you understand me when I said I don’t want to go back to that academy till my mother is much better?” I shot back, letting my anger control me.

“Please give us a moment,” Dad said to the man who was sitting across from him.

The man gave me a quick once-over, his facial expression already telling me what he was thinking before he stood up and walked out. I couldn’t care less what anyone thought about me right now.

”Have you forgotten that I am not only your father, I am also the Alpha of this pack, and you cannot speak to me in that manner—especially not in front of the pack members,” Dad said immediately after the door shut close.

”You can be the Alpha of the world for all I care. You are no Alpha of mine, and you stopped being my father that very night,” I spat, regretting my words as his right fist connected with my face, shocking me to my very core. He had never hit me before, no matter what I said or did.

”Now listen to me, son." He spat out the last part like it stung him. I guess the feeling is mutual then.

“I have tolerated your excesses all these years because I understood you were hurt, but it is time to step up or we will risk losing everything. You may not want to see me as your father, but I am still your Alpha, and as your Alpha you must do as I say,” he said in a deadly calm voice, a certain fire in his eyes I had never seen before. Maybe I crossed the line this time.

”You will go back to Lunar Crest Academy. You will learn all you need to learn to become the next Alpha and then you will graduate and take over from me,” he continued, his tone leaving no room for anything else.

”And the tutor? You can’t possibly have agreed to a mere she-wolf tutoring me,” I spoke, not wanting to lose out on everything.

”The tutor stays. I personally went through her files. She is the perfect person for the job, and she needs it too, so it is beneficial to you both.”

”Of course, you both must have promised her she would be my bride since I haven’t found my mate yet,” I whispered under my breath. He glared at me disapprovingly but made no comment.

”You can make whatever assumption you want to make, but you better behave yourself,” he warned, a hidden threat in his voice.

”Or what?” I dared, still not wanting to back down.

”Get out, Kael. We both know you don’t want the answer to that,” he answered, using his Alpha voice, which I could never challenge. I glared at him before storming out. He is only lucky he is still Alpha. All this will change when I take over. He will pay for everything, for every pain he ever caused Mum.
