Seven- His Return

Aria’s POV

“You still haven't told me about your conversation with Dr.Meredith. What did she say to you? You came out looking like you had seen a ghost” Lev asked as we headed into the academy building. The towering stone sign at the top of the building was suddenly scarier than it usually was, the words Lunar Crest Academy written on it felt like they were mocking me as we passed. I always loved being here but today felt totally different, like I am about to either secure or destroy my future with my next decisions.

“Thought you were eavesdropping with your little wolf ears?” I joked.

“First of all my wolf ears are not small, you forget you are talking to your beta” He responded, acting offended by my words.

“I am sorry sorry, Beta Lev” I chuckled, making a short bow in mock respect.

“Oh please, my mate doesn't get to call me that” he laughed out loud but I couldn't mirror his laughter as my heart stopped. His mate? We hadn't confirmed that yet…he sounded so sure.

“Lev” I called out softly trying to keep my voice steady.

“Oh Ri, I am so sorry, I was just playing with you” he quickly adjusted himself, coming to my side.

“I know, I know. It is just that the mere mention of the word mate just spikes something in me”

It sparked hope in my heart, that maybe my mate would be the end to all my pains and sufferings, maybe he would be the one to fill that hole in my heart that never healed.

“I totally get it, how insensitive of me”

His voice was sad and remorseful, if only he really understood, but I can't have that.

“It's okay. You were saying?” I quickly adjusted myself, changing the topic back to what we were talking about previously.

He hesitated a little, staring at me like he was trying to be sure I was totally fine before speaking up again.

“Second of all, you have forgotten none of us can hear past Meredith's door, not even the strongest of Alpha's” he reminded.

“Oh yeah totally forgot about her ‘magic door’, you know it makes no difference for me” I joked, making an air quote with my fingers as I said the word magic.

Meredith hates it when people listen to conversations that weren't meant for them, and everyone knows she is the carrier of the most secrets in the pack. It is no new news that her house and offices both the one at the academy and at the hospital are all protected, you can only hear what she wants to hear and of course, you can only enter when she approves of it. It was once rumored that she isn't a full wolf but no one dared to find out the truth in fear of what may happen, her contribution to the pack also adds to the fear of discovering who she really is, in fear of losing her. Everyone knows Dr.Meredith is more than an asset to the pack, she is a wolf not to be spoken of.

“Now there they are, I have been searching for you both all morning” A rather too excited voice spoke behind Lev and me, making us turn towards the voice.

“Elara” Lev smiled at her as she walked closer to us, sashaying her hips as always. Elara loved attention like a second skin, hence why we didn't become friends from the beginning.

Elara and I met through Lev of course, because as you know no one wants anything to do with the weak omega but with Lev not wanting to leave my side Elara and I learnt to be friends. We don't have the best relationship but I don't have a problem with her, we just disagree most of the time. It was like our thing, a love language if I am to describe it.

“Is it me or is there something different about today?” Elara asked, smiling excitedly, typical of Elara to always be excited. She is the perfect definition of what people refer to as pure sunshine, but I can't blame her, she has nothing to be sad about. Both her parents are alive and head over heels in love with each other, they provide all she needs and more, and she is treated with the utmost respect a wolf should get.

“Well I am sure it is not you, I feel it too” I murmured, folding my hands across my chest as she flung her hands around Lev excitedly.

It was no news that Elara had a little crush on Lev when they first met but she claims she is over him now as he has eyes on someone else, her words not mine. I didn't bother asking her about it, if she insists she is over him then it's her problem not mine.

“You do?”

“Yes but unlike you I know what's wrong on my end” I replied, my voice stiff.

“What side of the bed did you wake up on?” Elara rolled her eyes.

“Well before you both get on each other's necks as usual, I know exactly what's up with today” Lev spoke up.

“What Lev?” Elara squealed.

I would have asked what has gotten her this excited but then she is always like this.

“Alpha Kael returns to the academy today” Lev stated casually but the drop of my heart was anything but casual. Why am I feeling this way? I brushed Friday's encounter off as mere fear but now only the mention of his name has made me this uncomfortable.

“Really, after six years, why the change of heart?”

“Not so sure but my parents say the council has something to do with it” he responded, dropping his voice as we passed a group of Wolves whispering to themselves probably about the same thing we were talking about. Perks of having the Beta as your best friend you can get the intel you want to get faster than the others.

“Didn't think even the council had the power to bring him back here, he has been away for six years, everyone already lost hope” Elara continued but my mind had begun to drift away as I recalled our encounter last Friday at Dr.Meredith's office. I knew it was him, could it have been his return here that brought him all the way to Dr.Meredith's office?

What could Dr.Meredith have called him to her office for? She isn't the principal, she didn't have business admitting students, or rather re-admitting a student.
