Chapter 4
On
the afternoon of the banquet, the encrypted channel exploded.
Julian posted a photo of a custom, extra-wide iron chair, adding a malicious caption: [Custom made for Miss Rossi, so she doesn't break the legs off our furniture.]
Camilla immediately followed up with a photo of a giant pig-head cake: [Tonight's dessert! Hope little Chloe loves it.]
I stared at the screen, a cold smirk pulling at my lips.
"These brainless pieces of shit!" Sienna slammed her makeup brush onto the table, shaking with rage. "Chloe, tonight I'm going to make them get on their knees just to look at you!"
The top glam team spent three full hours working on me.
A sharp, smoky cat-eye elongated my gaze. A jet-black, high-slit velvet gown hugged my body perfectly, showing off my impossibly tiny waist and long, toned legs. My sharp shoulders and porcelain collarbones gleamed softly under the dim lights.
At 5:00 PM, Sienna intercepted a live feed from the VIP lounge.
On video, Julian was dressed in a bespoke suit, clinking glasses and flirting with Camilla, who was draped in a red dress.
"That fat pig actually dropped fifty grand betting she'd show up on time," Julian took a sip of champagne, laughing with pure disdain. "When she waddles through that door, the guys in this room will laugh her right out of New York."
Camilla giggled, leaning into his chest. "Julian, don't be too hard on her tonight. She's still the old Don's only daughter."
"She's nothing but a washed-up loser," Julian's eyes turned lethal. "After tonight, the Rossi family belongs to me."
I let out a cold laugh, killed the video, and pulled up my skirt to walk downstairs.
The second I got into the car heading to the Valenti family's private club, a friend request approval popped up on my phone.
Under the deep, pure black avatar, a message appeared:
Lucian Valenti: [I'm sorry about the card game. If you don't feel up to this, you don't have to force yourself. I'll have a car take you away.]
My fingers flew across the keyboard: [Don't worry, Don Valenti. Tonight is my stage. I'll be there on time.]
At 6:00 PM, the car pulled up smoothly in front of the club.
I stepped out in four-inch red-bottom heels. The dozens of elite Mafia guards standing outside gasped in unison the moment they saw me, their jaws dropped in dead silence.
Without giving them a glance, I walked straight into the elevator and rode it up to the penthouse VIP hall.
Standing outside the heavy luxury wooden doors, I could already hear the wild shouting and loud laughter inside.
Julian's sharp, petty voice cut right through the crack of the door: "Time's almost up! Is that fat pig stuck, cracking the floorboards just trying to waddle over?"
Camilla cackled along: "Maybe she's out in the hallway wheezing for air!"
I raised my hand, ready to push the doors wide open.
"Chloe."
A deep, magnetic voice sounded from the shadows beside me.
I snapped my head around.
Out of the darkness, a man stepped forward in an impeccably tailo
red black suit. Tall and sharp like a steel blade, his deep eyes locked onto mine without missing a beat.
It was Lucian Valenti.
He exuded the suffocating aura of a true king, yet the look in his eyes held a deeply restrained softness.
"Don Valenti," I nodded slightly.
Lucian walked over slowly. Without a word, he gently offered me his arm.
We didn't wait long. The clock struck six thirty with a crisp chime.
The exact second the counter hit zero, I flashed a faint smile at Lucian, reached out, and pressed down on the handle to the VIP hall.
