After My Husband’s Affair, His Life Was Ruined
Stella · Completed · 5.7k Words
Introduction
An unfamiliar woman was chatting while pushing Dexter’s mother, Jenny, around the neighborhood, claiming to be Dexter’s wife.
My hand, holding the phone, froze.
If she’s Dexter’s wife… then who am I?
I immediately called my husband and asked,
“Did you change family doctors?”
He paused for a second, then replied with a laugh, “Yes. Mom didn’t like the old one, so we switched. I haven’t had a chance to tell you yet. Why do you ask?”
I forced a casual chuckle. “No reason. I just missed you.”
After hanging up, I rushed home overnight.
Chapter 1
I just arrived abroad for a lawyer's conference when my best friend sent me a video.
A woman I'd never seen before was pushing my husband Dexter Ellis's mother Jenny Ellis around the neighborhood, chatting with her and claiming to be Dexter's wife.
My hand holding the phone froze.
If she's Dexter's wife, then who am I?
I immediately called Dexter and asked, "Did you change the home care nurse?"
Dexter paused for a moment, then laughed and said, "Yeah, Mom didn't like the old one, so I got a new one. Haven't had a chance to tell you yet. Why?"
I forced a casual laugh, "Nothing, I just miss you."
After hanging up, I caught the next flight home that night.
……
I got home in the morning. As soon as I opened the door, I saw Jenny, who was mentally impaired and partially paralyzed, lying on the floor with pale lips, crying that she was hungry.
Aurora Lawson, the home care nurse Dexter had hired, was sitting at the dining table elegantly eating breakfast.
Just like the lady of the house.
When she saw me, she jumped up in panic, dropping her fork on the floor.
"Why are you back, Mrs. Ellis?"
She looked at me with fear in her eyes. I looked at her and said, "So you're the home care nurse Dexter hired?"
"Yes."
I smiled slightly, bent down and helped the other staff lift Jenny up. While feeding her, I said, "Is this how you do your job?"
The home care nurse I'd hired before at great expense had always taken good care of Jenny and helped her with rehabilitation exercises.
She would never let her end up on the floor begging for food like this.
"And..." I put the video my friend sent on the table, "How do you explain this video?"
Seeing the video, Aurora's face went white immediately. She stammered, "I was just trying to help Mrs. Jenny Ellis practice eating on her own, nothing else. Please don't misunderstand."
"No! Bad woman!" After eating, Jenny pointed at Aurora accusingly.
I looked carefully at Aurora's face and suddenly felt it looked familiar.
I opened my phone and realized she was the girl who had followed my lawyer account a few days ago.
She'd been messaging me for several days, constantly asking how to get divorced without splitting assets.
So she'd been challenging me all along.
I opened Aurora's Twitter profile. Every single post hinted at her intimate relationship with Dexter.
The first one from half a month ago showed two people holding hands.
The caption read: [This man came through the pouring rain to celebrate my birthday. So happy, I'm the luckiest woman alive.]
Though the man had taken off his wedding ring, I clearly recognized that scar on his hand.
It was from when we first met—Dexter got cut by a robber while saving me from being mugged.
I suddenly remembered half a month ago, I had a high fever and wanted him to come home early to be with me.
Dexter told me he was working late at the hospital and couldn't make it.
Turns out he was with his mistress.
The latest post was a photo of them lying in bed together.
In the bottom right corner, there was a deliberately exposed opened condom wrapper.
And the bedsheets they were lying on were the ones I had carefully chosen.
I felt sick to my stomach, but I could see a flash of smugness on Aurora's seemingly frightened face.
I smiled slightly, didn't look at her again, and called my father Walter Elizabeth instead.
"Dad, don't save that hospital director position at Evergreen Hospital for Dexter anymore."
Walter's voice was puzzled, "Why? You fought so hard to get him that position."
"He cheated on me. I'm going to make sure he leaves with nothing."

It turns out, the fae stole my little brother. In his place? A pixie with boundary issues and a talent for home repairs.

Glamour is how he draws them in.
