Chapter 4 Trap
Ronan’s POV
The little miscreant was as dumb as I had initially thought her to be.
A coward and a fool, more precisely. I had honestly wanted to believe every reason she might have had to push her into taking her own life, justifiable.
But as it turned, i realized, her reasons were all stemmed from the fact–she had and was still a ‘stuck up’ child.
She’d had everything laid out on a golden platter even before she was actually born, skating or no skating. And she hadnt been allowed to face the real outside world on her own as an adult.
Hence, that was why when things didnt work out how she had expected it to, she felt the most glorious thing to do was take her own life.
‘Pfft! What a pathetic looser!’
I had come across my own fair share of figure skaters to know their number one toxic trait. Being the best. Whether home or away, they strived hard to outshine each other.
And trust me when I say aside hockey, they were the most evil and vile set of athletes I have had the pleasure of possibly meeting.
They strenuously went out of their way to cause temporary or in most circumstances, permanent damage, cutting their career short. Although not all, but a few of them do admit and own up to the consequences.
And while they tend to be exceptional love partners when they are courted right, soon after the novelty of the relationship wears out, they are off onto the next good thing.
Which without a doubt is always some remarkable or as they love to put it ‘natural-born athlete’ dude who’s also a figure skater.
No one almost pushed themselves to their very limits like they do. Risks upon risks, injuries alongside an inflexible training and practice schedule.
So it was almost quite fair for one to put in that much effort everyday of your life just to end up being called ‘useless’ like my prey still in pure shock here.
I don't dislike skaters per se though. But I would rather remain a ten foot pole away from them. Well, except this one. Sunshine.
There was something about her misery that seemed to draw out my dark sides, syncing chronologically with hers.
If I were a good person, I would let her off the hook, even escort her back to her dorm or wherever she wanted to crash in, and just make sure she was in the right head space.
But that was the fûcking catch!
I wasnt one, and I wouldnt suddenly turn one today…..
“You know…..I wanted to do this the very easy way actually…” I tsked quietly into the chill night air. “But you just had to play the innocent saint talking about some ‘you would have to find someone else for that!’.....Trust me you don’t want me to find someone else.”
Her mouth opened and closed like a fish thrown out of water. She had the calm look which for one didnt really match the usual skater stereotypes.
But I knew better than to underestimate her. After all the silent ones are usually the more dangerous ones.
“So I want you to rethink your choices again Sun. Shine!”
I deliberately emphasized on her new found nickname making her flinch like I had done so much as hit her.
‘Although I was open to the other ‘hitting’ in the bedroom actually.’ I mused internally as that thought seemed to stir something hard in me.
FUCK!
I wasn’t supposed to be thinking about banging or anything remotely close to that now. Because as it is the little Sunshine still believed she had a way out of this.
Well, NOT!
“Andddd your time is up!” I paused a bit as I took in calculative but still frightened eyes. “What would it be now? Worldwide publishing of your not so accidental hate-speech about your friends and most importantly your parents. Or you be the good little girl you’re and do as I say….”
She wasted no time in baring her little fangs, and screaming her head off. Gosh I hated the noise.
“None! Y-you dont get to come rescuing me like some fucked up knight in shining armor, then you t-turn around and blackmail me for yhe one T-thing i would n-never breath to another s-soul!”
A harsh sob wrecked out, following her words. Her face twisted with so much anguish than I thought possible from a human. Her lips quivered slightly as her hands clenched at her chest.
But I no longer have a heart to actually ‘sympathize’ with her.
Maybe no one truly had to go through something like this, but like we all know, fate has all other plans for us. Apparently.
“Look…sunshine, your face is already a mess as it is. But being an ugly crier? Just wrap it up already. Like I said, my options for you are as clear and bright as your name. Let’s save each other thr epistle and tsked on morality and get on with it.”
My words sounded crude and harsh even to my own ears. But who cares? Not like I forced her into dishing out fake promises. Besides I had to catch up with my already lost time of sleep so I could catch up with classes and practice tomorrow.
“Y-you do know this is a crime r-right?”
“And do I look like I give a flying fuck?”
Her mouth clamped shut as her gaze ping pinged nervously between my eyes and my phone. The glitters from her hands catching the moonlight sparkles even more where she rested them on her chest.
And I suddenly couldn’t help but notice the skating dress she had donned for the night. A light blue fitted skating dress hugging her curves all the right places. It had those weird tiny sparkling stones intricately embellished upon the material.
And the skirt rode up higher exposing the pale skin every time her movement became jerky. What a waste of outfit the dress would have been if I had arrived here too late.
But I think the question should be, why exactly I was here. But I digress.
I could see the exact moment the defiance slipped into eyes, amd I knew she was going to be more problem than she was worth.
“You know what?” Her voice came out clearer and shaper, no signs of stuttering and she leveled me with what I supposed was a harsh glare.
When in reality was no different than a horror cosplayer with all the grime spread across her whole face.
“Pray tell…What is it sunshine?” I asked with mock enthusiasm.
“I don’t also care! You can do with the recording as you please, and I still wouldnt give a FÛCKING DAMN!”
Her eyes flashed with a twisted expression of unbound rage, as she shook from it. This side of hers screamed everything a sane person should run from.
But I wasn’t sane. I lived for the rush and the challenge. If she wanted to play tough, then she just met her match. And what better way to knock an athlete off their high horse?
A good ‘ol challenge!
She moved to open her door, but my next words immediately broke that bravado of hers.
“Do the thing you best know how to do Sunshine….Run. Away…..”
The silence surrounding us suddenly became deafening. No one spoke or dared to breathe. Well me for one. But the same couldnt be said for her.
The ragged sounds of her breathing came out in puffs, echoing all around us.
‘Yes sunshine! That is it. Break until you have no more left in you anymore!’ The more chanted in my head, the more her grip on the door handle tightened even harder as her knuckles turned white.
“It’s only nice to know such weak athletes like yourselves still exist in such glorious fields. So go ahead. And run away like the scaredy little chicken you–
“Shut the fuck up! You don’t know jack about me to stand there and have your word vomit! Your little prank dont scare me! If I wanted anyone under my thumb, then I can. But this?” Her index finger gestured between us. “It’s not possible!”
A manic laughter roared out of me, as I doubled over at her words. They weren’t exactly funny per se, but I knew the effect it would have on her.
“W-whats so funny?” The stuttering was back. Which could only mean one thing. She wasn’t as confident as she had portrayed herself to be.
“It’s funny how you think saying it like that actually convince others to automatically believe you….sunshine. I wasn’t born yesterday. So if you wanna prove something to me or the whole world, then you show, not tell!”
Something decisive and Dan immediately snapped in her. Raising her hands and wiping across her tear stained cheeks, she looked up at him with a renewed and brimming expression reeking of confidence.
“You want me to show you yeah? Fine! I would! Just six months. And I would make you eat your fûcking words! Six months!”
With that she slides into her car, revving it to life and then darting high across the gravel road. I watched her car lights disappear into datkness before the slow grin emerged on my face.
‘Finally Sunshine! You are just right where I want you now….i hope you are thick skinned enough to survive it here. No retreat, no surrender!’
