Chapter 1
SHIRLEY
The rain poured as if the heavens were in rage, the frightening sound of the thunder should have made me cringe in fear, but I didn’t even notice it.
Why, you may ask? Well, it isn’t possible for a broken girl who just dined with betrayal and pain to be scared of a little thunderstorm, I guess.
I walked home, not even bothering to wait somewhere until it stopped raining.
I couldn’t stop, I needed the rain to pour on me, maybe to give me some peace and to calm my mind from the turmoil of emotions that was going through it all at once.
My clothes, my undies, everything was soaked. I held my heels in one hand, walking barefoot through the rain, and a bottle of wine in the other hand.
‘It’s not true. I must be dreaming’ I kept murmuring to myself.
A few hours ago, I just got off from work, and I wanted to surprise Jack, my supposed fiancé.
While still in a cab heading to his house, I tried to adjust my makeup, but I didn’t like the outfit I had on, and I didn’t have extra clothes to change into, so I had to make do with the one I had.
I always like impressing Jack. I didn’t really like wearing heels, but I had to because Jack said he loves them.
I didn’t like see through outfits, but Jack said they brought out my sexy figure.
I didn’t like packing my hair, but Jack said that packing my hair makes me look sexy.
So I always gave him what he wanted just to make him happy.
Somehow, I felt that if I didn’t do all the things he wanted, he would leave me, and I didn’t want that.
When I got to his house, I let myself in with my key, blushing like a spoilt bride.
His birthday was tomorrow, and I got something for him.
I knew he would love the gift and would plant my face with kisses whispering, ‘I love you BABY’
I closed the door behind me quietly.
He wasn’t in the sitting room, so he must be in his room then.
With great love in my heart, I marched to his bedroom wondering how he would react since he was expecting me tomorrow not today.
He would be happy. I was sure of it, especially since I would be spending the night.
‘Jack, I’m here!!!’ I announced as I pushed his bedroom door open.
‘Oh shit!!!’ Jack yelled as he scrambled out of the bed.
I blinked.
Maybe I’m seeing things.
‘What the fuck!!!’ I yelled as the image of what I just saw burned into my brain.
Jack was thrusting into another man’s butthole furiously, almost like his life depended on it.
Both of them stood up quickly when they saw me, guilt written boldly on their faces.
‘No, no, no, this must be a fucking dream,’ I said to myself.
Jack walked up to me slowly, his dick swinging left, right, and center.
‘Baby listen, it’s not what you think….I…we.’
I was furious ‘Oh, it’s not what I think. Then, kindly help me out here and tell me why the fuck did I just see you drilling your dick into his ass.’
No response.
‘Why didn’t you tell me you are gay?!!’ I asked.
‘I’m not gay,’ he said, immediately, his eyes widened as if I was accusing him.
I laughed bitterly, ‘Oh, so what are you then?’
He bowed his head and muttered, ‘I’m straight.’
‘Of course you are,’ I said sarcastically, eyeing him furiously.
If eyes could kill, he would be six feet down now.
‘Who is he?’ I asked after a moment, referring to the guy I caught him in bed with.
He stuttered, ‘He is…he is my…..personal assistant.’
My eyes widened. ‘Interesting. Very interesting. How long has this been going on?’ I asked both of them.
‘Four months,’ the guy replied immediately.
‘It just happened today,’ Jack responded.
They said different things at the same time, but I believed the guy when he said it was four months. There was no reason to believe any word that came out of Jack’s mouth anymore.
He lied to me for years, acted like he would never hurt my feelings or cheat on me, he proposed to me, I trusted him completely, and now he has betrayed me.
‘Four months, Jack!!! Are you fucking kidding me? You proposed to me four months ago. Why would you propose to me if you knew you had a fuck buddy waiting for you?’
Jack sighed ‘It isn’t exactly my fault. We haven’t had sex since we started dating, so you can’t really blame me for wanting to get some from the side.’
I was disgusted ‘Excuse me? What are you trying to say? Are you trying to blame me for your infidelity?’
Silence.
‘Cat got your tongue now, huh?’ I asked again as fresh tears streamed down my face.
‘I’m sorry,’ he said, finally refusing to look at me.
‘Did you even love me, or has everything between us been a lie?’
He was mute again.
I nodded ‘Okay, it’s okay. I get it now. Fuck you, you piece of horse shit!!!!’ I said angrily as I stormed out of his apartment, grabbing a bottle of wine on my way out.
It was raining, but I didn’t care. I walked home, drinking and crying.
Two years of complete devotion to him, and it all blew back to my face.
When I told him about my stand on sex, he accepted that we would only do it when I was ready.
Now, he was blaming me. I even came here today to surprise him and to give him my virginity because I didn’t want to lose him.
But I had already lost him.
The rain had stopped, and I was almost home.
A few girls stood across the street, giggling in excitement. I knew they were prostitutes; this street is where they get their clients.
I stared at them for a moment, wondering what their life feels like. Then suddenly, I was walking towards them.
What the fuck am I doing?

Luckily, in those four years, the mysterious husband never asked to meet in person.
Now, in the final year of our arrangement, the husband I've never met is demanding we meet face to face.
But disaster struck the night before my return—drunk and disoriented, I stumbled into the wrong hotel room and ended up sleeping with the legendary financial mogul, Caspar Thornton.
What the hell am I supposed to do now?

He moaned against my throat as he drank, and the sound was devastating.

It turns out, the fae stole my little brother. In his place? A pixie with boundary issues and a talent for home repairs.
I’ve spent my life taking care of everyone else. So when my baby brother is taken, I don’t hesitate. I walk straight into a faerie mansion and make a bargain with its infuriatingly charming master.
Kie is everything you’d expect from a dangerous fae, beautiful, political, and entirely too amused by me. Power wrapped in a smirk. Sensual, mischievous, and far too aware of the effect he has on people. He agrees to help me find my brother.
For a price.
Now I’m bound by a faerie bargain and navigating a world of glamour, manipulation, and ancient rules I definitely should have learned sooner, enchanted forests, political games, magical contracts, and a fae lord who treats seduction like a perfectly reasonable negotiation tactic.
Iron is how I keep people out.
Glamour is how he draws them in.
And apparently, they just don’t mix.
