Chapter 6

The long drunkenness wasn't easy to shake off. When I woke up the next day, it was already evening. If Nola's housekeeper hadn't reminded me that dinner was ready, I probably would have kept sleeping.

In my sleep, I seemed to have fallen into a nightmare—one fragment after another, including scenes from my childhood when my mom and I depended on each other.

When Nola saw I was awake, she quickly closed her laptop, looking flustered.

"What's wrong? Doing something bad and afraid I'd catch you?" I joked.

She waved her hand. "Nothing, just some company stuff."

"Big problem?"

I sat up, and my hand hurt. Then I remembered I'd accidentally cut it last night. Nola had already treated the wound for me.

"Small thing."

Nola put her hand on my shoulder. "Let's eat first. You need to eat well to have energy to work."

I smiled. "Don't worry, I won't hold things back. You can keep managing the company for now. I need to catch up bit by bit."

"I have no problem handling the company stuff."

Nola paused, but couldn't help asking me.

"Blair, some things might not be what we think. Let's find out the truth first."

I didn't quite understand what she was saying. I did drink last night because I was upset, but Nola's words seemed to mean something else.

"Find out what?"

Nola covered her mouth in surprise. She clearly felt she might have said too much.

"Nothing, nothing. I'm just talking nonsense."

I'd already noticed her panic—from the moment I opened my eyes and looked at her, I felt she was hiding something.

"Mind if I take a look?"

I pointed at her laptop. Looking at it would make everything clear.

Nola waved her hand, then pulled it back, watching me open the laptop.

Headlines caught my eye: "Mr. Levi Morgan Attends Violinist Jessa Greer's Concert with Daughter," "Is Jessa Greer Mr. Levi Morgan's Secret Wife?" "Mr. Levi Morgan to Officially Announce Girlfriend." I froze completely, my head pounding.

So Levi had rushed back home with Celestia to attend Jessa's concert. Their high-profile appearance would definitely make the front page.

The Greer family had spent a lot of money buying traffic for Jessa, which had already made her very popular these past two years. With Levi's support this time, she would definitely blow up.

And this kind of trending topic would definitely be hard to suppress.

I quickly searched for "Levi's response," but all that came up was that Levi hadn't made any response yet.

That meant he was accepting these reports by default.

If he had denied that Jessa was Celestia's birth mother, maybe I would have felt a bit better. But he didn't respond for Jessa's sake.

Levi, you're still playing favorites after all.

I sighed softly and looked up at Nola with a bitter smile. "I just found out too."

"Huh?"

Nola jumped up excitedly. "I thought last night you were upset because of them..."

"No. How did they hook up again?"

"Didn't they break up? If he has feelings for her, why would you agree to marry him?"

It was hard to answer all of Nola's questions one by one. From the beginning, it was my one-sided love for Levi. I loved him back then, but I wouldn't say he was the only one for me.

If Aiden hadn't persuaded me again and again, I wouldn't have forced his feelings no matter what.

"Well... you know, sometimes marriage is..."

I couldn't explain it clearly. I didn't understand marriage at all. My compromises had become jokes one after another, and now even Levi was publicly slapping me in the face.

I suddenly remembered to check my phone and saw a long string of messages from Aiden. He said Levi wasn't answering his calls, I wasn't answering either, asking if it was true, and saying that if Levi betrayed me, he wouldn't let him off.

But I wanted to let him go.

"Blair, what are you going to do? Should I take you home first?"

"He doesn't know where I am."

I bit my lip. "It's funny, right? Levi doesn't know where I am now, and he doesn't care. Indigo told him I was on a business trip, and he hasn't contacted me."

"I'm pretty pathetic, aren't I? This kind of thing breaks out, and he lets my daughter appear in public without blurring her face."

I was breaking down. I didn't care about Levi's feelings for Jessa. What I cared about right now was my daughter being exposed—would she be troubled by this?

If Celestia were asked about this in other situations, how would she answer? Her mom is clearly me, not Jessa!

Nola tried to comfort me. "Don't panic. How about I go check on Celestia first? I'll bring her here so you can protect her."

"Levi won't allow it!"

I said helplessly what was in my heart. "He doesn't care about me, but he loves Celestia. He won't let you pick her up."

"Then what do we do? How about I pretend to go to your house looking for you, and check on the child while I'm there?" Nola didn't have a better solution either.

"No need."

I clenched my fists. "He'll protect Celestia well. It's just that his not responding might mean he really wants to go public with Jessa."

Nola felt indignant for me. "What about you? You're his real wife. He doesn't give you recognition, but that can't change the truth."

"I won't fight for it." I relaxed my hands. "I'm going to divorce him."

"Stop, stop, stop! What kind of depressing talk is that? Don't worry about it. I'm going to find Levi right now. I'll get to the bottom of this."

I held her back and shook my head. "Don't go."

Nola was frustrated. "You're just going to take this lying down? Even if you two aren't going to make it, you should at least clear things up."

"I really don't understand. All these years, you've been doing everything for him. Why divorce? Scandals like this—it's mainly because Jessa's in that circle where it's easy to get rumors..."

"Levi really likes her."

I closed my eyes. I didn't want to admit this fact. If Levi didn't like her, this kind of report really couldn't have such a big impact. The Morgan Group has such an excellent PR team—no one could easily stick this on him.

"You're confused! Jessa, that person—you're willing to give him up to her? She..."

I interrupted Nola. I really didn't want to hear Jessa's name.

"Right now, I just want to fight for custody of Celestia, but I can't win against him."

I knew very well that the gap between Levi and me was too big. Even if Aiden was on my side, he wouldn't give up the Morgan family bloodline.

"I'll definitely be your strong support, and there's the company. I have money too. As for cooperation with the Morgan Group, I can have my dad slowly stop working with them."

Nola's attitude really moved me, but I wouldn't let her sacrifice these things for me. Cooperating with the Morgan Group was a win-win situation to begin with.

I forced a smile. "Relax. I'm just divorcing him, not trying to destroy him."

"Think carefully about the divorce. Celestia is still in his hands." Deep down, Nola was still trying to reconcile us.

I'd already made up my mind. I would make things right for Levi.
