Introduction
Now, Steve is offering her a job. Not in tech. Not in coding. But as his personal bodyguard.
There’s only one problem:
Laura looks like she can’t carry her own groceries.
Petite, adorable, and often mistaken for someone in need of rescuing, Laura is hiding a monstrous secret... her family’s supernatural strength. She’s a legacy of chaos wrapped in pink lip gloss and sarcasm, and she’s spent her whole life trying not to stand out. But between assassination attempts, gala ambushes, and a growing crush on the man she's supposed to protect, Laura’s quiet days are officially over.
Now she’s guarding a billionaire who doesn’t like being guarded, fending off old crushes (hello, Mark O’Brien... the dreamy cop from high school), and getting tangled in a corporate conspiracy masterminded by Steve’s very own brother.
She's bulletproof. She’s overqualified. And she's definitely not wearing the heels Dante picked out ever again.
If Laura can keep Steve alive long enough, she just might earn her dream job in tech...
But falling in love with her billionaire boss?
Totally not part of the plan.
Chapter 1
LAURA'S POV:
Look... I didn’t plan to punch a grown man through a windshield before breakfast.
But in my defense, he was holding an AK-47, someone had already been shot, and the bus was starting to smell like panic and engine grease.
The morning had started fine. Sky clear. Money in my account (barely). Hair behaving. Tea bottle in my hand, and my favorite playlist screaming in my ears like it owed me rent. I was headed to an interview I absolutely wasn’t qualified for... Freeman Technologies, the crown jewel of tech overlords. They want perfect GPAs, elite degrees, and probably some blood sacrifice. I had none of that. Just freakish strength, a knockoff blazer, and an invitation I may or may not have finessed from their internal job board.
The only thing that was supposed to crash today was my confidence... then the bus slowed down... then someone screamed... then I smelled the kind of fear that sinks into your skin and makes your bones whisper not again.
I pulled my earbuds out. Chaos. Up ahead, in the middle of the road, two men in ski masks were dragging a woman by her ponytail. A third was on top of a car hood like it was a dance floor, waving a rifle around like it came with a microphone. The fourth? Already inside another bus, slamming someone into the window.
The air got heavy. The driver panicked. Someone dropped their phone and didn’t even try to pick it up.
Me? I just sat there. Seat 13. Clutching my tote bag like it could stop bullets. My palms sweating so bad I could hear them.
Breathe, Laura. You promised. No chaos. No powers. No headlines. Just make it to the interview like a normal girl with poor impulse control.
And then I saw the kid. Standing beside her father, maybe six years old, watching the whole thing like it was happening inside a horror movie and she forgot it wasn’t fiction. Then a shot rang out. And the man dropped. The girl screamed.
Something in me... snapped. I hate that part. I hate the moment when I feel the line break. Because I know what happens next. And no matter how gentle I try to be, it always ends messy.
I stood up. The bus creaked. Someone tried to stop me. “Don’t go out there,” they whispered, terrified.
I smiled. “Too late.”
I stepped off. Dust hit my face. My heels immediately sank into the gravel, which felt symbolic.
The guy on the car hood spotted me first. He laughed. “She serious?”
The others looked. Four men. Two knives. Two guns. One smirked like he was the main character.
He wasn’t.
I took a breath. “Hey!” I called, walking forward like I’d lost my mind or maybe just found a better use for it.
One pointed his gun at me. I walked faster. He cocked it. Still walking. He barked something at me... probably rude, probably loud, definitely a mistake.
I stopped three feet away. Looked him in the eye.
“Can I ask a question?”
He blinked.
“What’s the average PSI needed to dislocate your jaw?”
And then I hit him. Not hard. Just... enough. He flew backward into a parked SUV. The impact shattered the windshield and half the hood. Somewhere behind me, someone gasped like they just saw Jesus take the wheel.
Another guy fired. I ducked. Grabbed a piece of busted concrete from the sidewalk. Spun once, twice, and hurled it like I was born in a demolition derby.
It hit gunman #2 square in the chest. He folded. Launched backward. Took out a newspaper stand and someone’s sandwich.
The others ran. Smart boys.
I stood there, heart racing. Knuckles buzzing. People still screaming, but quieter now. I looked down at my hands. Shook them out. My heels were destroyed. My bag was scuffed.
But the kid was safe. And that was the only part that mattered.
Then I noticed the car. Parked near the edge of the mess. All black. Bulletproof glass. Quiet engine still running.
Inside? A man. Watching.
Steve. Freaking. Freeman. CEO. Tech overlord. Richer than gravity. Smugger than sin.
And he saw everything.
Our eyes locked. His window rolled halfway down. He didn’t look shocked. Just… intrigued. Like I’d ruined his morning in the most interesting way possible.
I smiled. Half-shy. Half-oh-crap.
Then something exploded behind his car. Another vehicle skidded sideways. Smoke burst out from under the hood. New attackers. Not thieves... mercs. Tactical gear. Precision aim. Real money behind them.
The SUV got hit. Hard. It spun. Crashed into the divider. And caught fire.
People screamed again.
But I didn’t move. Because through the smoke, I saw Steve’s door jammed shut. And I heard him shout. And I knew... if I stood there doing nothing, he’d die.
I kicked off the ruined heels. Flexed my fingers. And muttered, “Okay, Laura. Just this one last time. Try not to rip open the pavement again.”
Then I ran straight into the fire.

His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

The Pack: Rule Number 1 - No Mates
"Let me go," I whimper, my body trembling with need. "I don't want you touching me."
I fall forward onto the bed then turn around to stare at him. The dark tattoos of Domonic's chiseled shoulders, quiver and and expand with the heave of his chest. His deep dimpled smile is full of arrogance as he reaches behind himself to lock the door.
Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.
"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."

The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride
Yet Alexander made his decision clear to the world: “Evelyn is the only woman I will ever marry.”
I Slapped My Fiancé—Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis
Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now—billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn’t mind. I’d crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one?
Wrong.
One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That’s when it hit me—he didn’t love me. He didn’t even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn’t even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup.
So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster—my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise.
Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol.
Enter him.
Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I’d met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes.
It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised.
But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life.
And, as it turned out, the best decision I’d ever made.
Because my one-night stand isn’t just some random guy. He’s richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with.
And now, he’s not letting me go.
Oops, Wrong Girl to Bully
My back hit the desk. Pain exploded through my skull.
"Girls like you don't get to dream about guys like Kai." Bella's breath was hot on my face. "You don't get to write pathetic love letters."
She shoved me again. Harder.
"Maybe if you weren't such a desperate little—"
I fell. My head cracked against the corner.
Warmth trickled down my neck. Blood.
Their laughter turned to gasps.
The door slammed.
I tried to stand. Couldn't. The room was spinning, fading to black.
Someone... please...
