Maid of honor
Babarinde Moyosore · Ongoing · 43.5k Words
Introduction
Mia blinked, her anger faltering for a fraction of a second. "A bet?"
Damien took another slow step forward, completely erasing the remaining distance between them until he was looming directly over her. "If this wedding doesn't happen—of which it won't... I’ll violently pursue you, Mia. There is nowhere in the world that you can go that I won't find you.
One petty lie. One month in Lake Como. And the role of a lifetime.
When Mia's friend announces her engagement to Mia’s toxic ex, she demands Mia serve as Maid of Honor. Refusing to be the pitiful, single charity case at a destination wedding in Italy, Mia blurts out a desperate lie: she’s dating her ex's estranged uncle.
The problem? Her "new boyfriend" is Damien Grey—a reclusive, devastatingly handsome global A-list actor.
Damien simulates desire for a living. As his public devotion turns intensely passionate and his possessiveness feels terrifyingly real, the lines of the script violently blur. Mia wanted to survive a wedding—now she has to survive him.
Chapter 1
MIA
"I'm engaged."
I paused, my hand hovering over the stack of financial audit folders on my desk. I adjusted my glasses and squinted at my phone screen, where my best friend’s face was pushed way too close to the camera.
"No silly, you're Elena," I said dryly, turning back to my papers.
"Mia! Look!"
Elena angled the phone down, and suddenly, a blinding, emerald-cut diamond ring was taking up the entire screen. It was huge. It was expensive. It was definitely a real engagement ring.
My jaw dropped. I snatched the phone, my heart doing a little happy dance. "Oh my god! Babe, you and John are finally getting married?!" I squealed, genuinely thrilled for her.
Elena let out a dramatic gasp, twisting her face into an expression of pure disgust. "Ewww, no. Please. John and I were just fuck buddies, Mia. Keep up."
I blinked, completely dumbfounded. Right. Silly me. Elena’s love life was a revolving door, and as her resident nerdy, single best friend, I clearly hadn't been keeping track of the rotation.
"Okay, okay," I scrambled, trying to think. "Oh! Is it Othniel? The guy you met at the airport lounge last month?"
Elena rolled her eyes so hard I thought they might get stuck. "What now? Babeeee, no. Othniel was so two weeks ago."
I groaned, completely confused now. I rubbed my temples, leaning back in my chair. "Okay, I give up. Who on earth managed to lock down the untamable Elena? What is going on?"
Elena leaned into the camera, a massive, triumphant grin spreading across her face. "It's Harry."
I let out a loud snort, a laugh bubbling up before I could stop it. "Harry? What, like Harry Potter? Did you find yourself a wizard?"
Elena laughed too, but there was a weird, sharp edge to it. A look of smug satisfaction flashed in her eyes that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
"Not Harry Potter," Elena said, her voice dropping into a purr. "Harry Grey."
.
Harry Grey. There was only one Harry in our entire social universe. My ex. The guy who had broken my heart, leaving me to bury myself in my books and finance studies while he vanished out of my life.
A dry, hacking cough forced its way out of my throat as my brain violently tried to reject the information. "Babe..." I choked out, staring blankly at the screen. "Is it… my ex?"
Elena didn't even flinch. She just threw her head back and laughed, the sound loud and grating through my phone speaker. "Yes!"
I pinched the bridge of my nose, right under my glasses, needing to ensure I hadn't suddenly slipped into a fever dream. "Babe, you’re getting married to my ex?"
"Yes!" Elena beamed, leaning so close to the camera I could see the smug triumph radiating off her. "And guess who's going to be my maid of honor? Youuuu!"
"Wait, what?!" The sip of water I had just taken went entirely down the wrong pipe. I hacked, coughing violently, my eyes watering behind my lenses as I almost choked to death right there at my desk.
Elena completely ignored my near-death experience, waving her hand dismissively on screen. She looked at my oversized sweater and messy room with a pitying, calculating smile. "Look, Mia, you should honestly seize this opportunity. You can use the wedding to finally dress well for once. Who knows? You might actually see a potential, rich suitor among Harry's friends. It’s a win-win!"
A hot, prickly wave of pure humiliation and anger washed over me. A charity case. She wanted me to stand at the altar, holding her bouquet, looking like the pathetic, nerdy best friend who got left in the dust, hoping for Harry’s leftover friends to notice me.
I couldn't let this continue. The spite inside me took the wheel before my common sense could stop it.
"Oh," I said, my voice suddenly dropping into a cool, casual tone as I wiped my mouth. "I didn't tell you? I'm actually in a relationship. He'll be my plus-one to the wedding."
Elena’s face instantly dropped. The smugness vanished, replaced by pure disbelief. "But you didn't tell me anything, Mia! We talk every day, how—"
Before she could finish her sentence, my bedroom door flew open.
"You're in a relationship?!" my aunt yelled, bursting into the room like a hurricane. Her hair was pulled up in a wildly scattered, messy bun, and her eyes were practically popping out of her head with excitement.
My heart dropped straight into my stomach. Oh, no.
"Oh, aunty, you really didn't hear that well," I scrambled, my hands flying up in panic as I tried to backpedal. "I said—"
But it was already too late. My aunt didn't wait for a single word of explanation. She spun on her heel and bolted down the hallway, her voice echoing through the house. "Sister! Sister, come quickly! Mia has a boyfriend! Mia is dating!"
I stared at the closed door, the muffled sounds of my mother squealing in the living room drifting back down the hall. On my desk, Elena was still demanding answers through the phone screen.
I slowly lowered my head into my hands, my
chest tightening as the reality of the situation hit me. What on earth have I just gotten myself into?

I’d appreciate all your support, thank you so much!
From first crush to wedding vows, George Capulet and I had been inseparable. But in our seventh year of marriage, he began an affair with his secretary.
On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

Instead, a god found me.
One moment, I was bleeding beneath the neon glow of the city, my life slipping through my fingers. The next, a glowing blue screen appeared before my eyes, offering me a choice that was never really a choice at all.
Accept the Summoner’s Mark. Or die.
Now I belong to the Death Game — a brutal cosmic system where ordinary people are turned into Players, thrown into impossible missions, and forced to survive horrors designed for the amusement of gods.
Every trial has rules.
Every monster has a weakness.
Every victory comes with a reward.
And every reward makes me less human.
My name is Nerissa Valehart, and I refuse to be anyone’s pawn.
But surviving the Game means trusting the one man everyone warns me to fear.
Veyren Ashford is ruthless, powerful, and dangerously beautiful — a veteran Player with blood on his hands and secrets in his soul. He says attachment will get me killed. He says love is a weakness the Game always punishes.
Yet when death comes for me, Veyren is the one standing between us.
In a world where gods gamble with mortal lives, monsters hunt from the shadows, and desire may be the deadliest weakness of all, I have only one goal:
Survive long enough to cross the board.
And make the Starless God regret choosing me..............

"What?"
Before I can react, he scoops her up. Her small body fits easily in the cradle of his talons. For a split second, she looks startled, but not afraid. Her hand rests against one scaled finger, and she stares up at him with that same curious wonder, as though she’s already forgotten she was ever meant to fear me.

"She’s ours," the beast insists, possessive and fierce. "Our snowflake."
Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.
Let Them Kneel

She lived among humans—quiet, invisible, tucked away in a town no one looked at twice.
But when her first heat comes without warning, everything changes.
Her body ignites. Her instincts scream. And something primal stirs beneath her skin—
summoning a big, bad Alpha who knows exactly how to quench her fire.
When he claims her, it’s ecstasy and ruin.
For the first time, she believes she’s been accepted.
Seen.
Chosen.
Until he leaves her the next morning—
like a secret never to be spoken.
But Kaelani is not what they thought.
Not wolfless. Not weak.
There is something ancient inside her. Something powerful. And it’s waking.
And when it does—
they’ll all remember the girl they tried to erase.
Especially him.
She’ll be the dream he keeps chasing… the one thing that ever made him feel alive.
Because secrets never stay buried.
And neither do dreams.
