My Mother Faked My Daughter's DNA Test
Juniper Marlow · Completed · 7.2k Words
Introduction
Not a literal weapon—something far more vicious. A fake DNA test claiming my daughter wasn't my husband's child. She planned to destroy my family in front of everyone: friends, neighbors, people recording everything for social media.
She got her wish.
Caspian shattered. Jumped off the balcony right there at the country club while cameras rolled. I followed him down, dying in a pool of blood and my mother's satisfied laughter.
But death gave me a gift: seven days to rewind.
This time, I came prepared. Real DNA tests. Dirty family secrets. And a biological father nobody knew existed.
She wanted to play games with paternity results?
FINE!
Wait until she discovers whose bastard child has been living in her house all along.
Chapter 1
Today should've been perfect. Luna's first birthday, you know? I should've known Mom would mess it up somehow.
So there I was at the Millbrook Country Club, setting up for Luna's party. Pink balloons, white tablecloths, the works. I'd been planning this thing for weeks.
But Mom was being weird. Like, really weird.
She kept checking her phone every five seconds and hugging this giant purse like her life depended on it. Plus all those hushed phone calls she'd been making lately.
Something's up. I can feel it.
"Hey, you okay?" Caspian walked over and rubbed my shoulder. "You look kinda stressed."
I shrugged. "Just want everything to go well."
He smiled at me, then glanced over at Luna, who was babbling away in his mom's arms. "She's gonna love it."
God, I loved this man. Three years married and he still made my heart skip.
People started showing up, and I tried to shake off that bad feeling. Mom was doing her usual thing, floating around, chatting with everyone. She looked great, as always. Designer dress, perfect hair. Everyone thinks she's this amazing grandma.
But I know better.
"Okay everyone, time for the choosing!" Margaret called out. You know that thing where babies pick something and it's supposed to predict their future? Luna was gonna crawl around and grab whatever caught her eye.
I put her down on the blanket with all the little items scattered around. Books, coins, toy stethoscope. She started giggling and reaching for stuff. It was actually really cute.
Then Mom stepped forward.
"Hold on, sweetie. I've got something special for Luna to pick from."
My stomach dropped. "What do you mean?"
She dug into that death-grip purse and pulled out this envelope. Hospital logo on it. She was smiling, but it wasn't a nice smile.
"This'll tell us who her real daddy is!"
Wait. What?
"Mom, what're you talking about?" My voice came out all squeaky.
She looked around the room like she was on stage or something. "Sorry everyone has to find out like this, but Sera's been lying to all of us."
The whole room went quiet. You could literally hear people breathing.
She opened the envelope super dramatically. "Paternity test results show that Caspian Sterling is NOT the biological father of Luna Sterling."
Everything exploded.
"Sera..." Caspian turned to look at me, and his face was just... broken. "Tell me this isn't true. Tell me you didn't lie about our daughter."
"It's fake!" I was practically screaming now. "She made it up! Cas, please, you have to believe me!"
But he was backing away from me. And everyone else was pulling out their phones.
"Why would she make something like that up?" Margaret whispered.
Mom kept going. "I've been suspicious for months now. The timeline never made sense. And look at Luna's eyes—they're green like Sera's, not blue like Caspian's."
People were already posting this mess online. I could see the notifications going crazy.
"I can't..." Caspian shook his head and started walking toward the balcony. "I can't handle this."
"Cas, wait!" I ran after him.
The balcony overlooked the garden three floors down. Normally it was pretty, but right now it just looked scary.
"Please listen to me," I grabbed his arm. "She's lying. I don't know why, but she's lying. You know me. You know I wouldn't do this."
He looked at me with these wild eyes. "Do I? 'Cause right now I don't know anything."
Everyone had followed us outside. Still filming everything. Mom's voice carried over all the chaos: "I tried to keep this private, but sometimes the truth has to come out..."
Caspian stared at me for what felt like forever. The hurt in his eyes was killing me.
Then he climbed up onto the railing.
"No!" I lunged forward, but it was too late.
He was gone.
Just like that.
People were screaming. Someone pushed me, or maybe I just couldn't stand anymore. The railing hit my back, then I was falling too.
She planned this whole thing. She wanted us dead.
But then I was sitting up in bed, gasping for air.
Luna was crying in her crib. The clock said 3:00 AM. Caspian was right there next to me, breathing slow and steady.
My phone showed March 15, 2024.
One week before the party.
I grabbed my phone with shaky hands and opened Instagram. There it was—Mom's post from yesterday. A picture of gift wrap with some cryptic caption about surprises and secrets.
All those happy comments from people who had no idea what was coming.
I stared at that screen until Luna's crying got louder. Then it hit me.
This was real. I was back.
The old me would've freaked out, tried to talk to Mom, begged her to stop.
But the new me? The one who watched her husband die?
Nah. That's not happening again.
I've got seven days to save my family.
