My Sister-in-Law Smashed My $350,000 Bracelet
Hachimitsu · Ongoing · 10.1k Words
Introduction
Vanessa Liang lifted my red agate bracelet above her head in front of the whole Hale family.
It hit the marble floor with a clean crack.
My mother-in-law kept cracking sunflower seeds. "Broken things ward off bad luck," Margaret Hale said, smiling as if she had just made a toast.
My father-in-law did not even put down his tea.
My husband, Daniel Hale, lowered his eyes to his phone and pretended he had seen nothing.
I crouched, picked up the largest piece, and slipped it into my coat pocket.
Then I opened my phone, logged into Meridian Holdings' approval system, and tapped the final authorization page.
Vanessa was still laughing. "What, Claire? Going to post it online and beg for sympathy?"
Her brother's call came in before I answered. The ringtone screamed through the dining room again and again.
When she saw Victor Liang's name on the screen, the smile froze on her face.

My Sister-in-Law Smashed My $350,000 Agate Bracelet, So I Canceled Her Brother's $98 Million Deal

Sunday dinner at the Hale house always looked generous from a distance.
Twelve dishes covered the round table. The steamed fish sat in the center, shining under the chandelier. Margaret lifted the best piece of belly meat and placed it into Vanessa's bowl before anyone else touched their chopsticks.
"Vanessa has been working hard," Margaret said. "Eat more."
Vanessa accepted it with a soft laugh, then glanced at me.
"Don't mind me, Claire. My stomach's delicate. I can't eat the head or the tail."
The fish head and tail had already been pushed toward my place.
For three years, that had been the rule. The best parts went to Vanessa. What was left came to me. If I refused, I was petty. If I accepted, I was grateful.
That first year, I had tried to laugh with them. I told myself every family had its old habits, every dinner table had invisible seating rules, every marriage required a little swallowing of pride. When Margaret corrected the way I folded napkins, I learned her way. When Richard interrupted me mid-sentence to ask Vanessa about her brother's business, I smiled and waited. When Daniel squeezed my knee under the table, I told myself the pressure meant apology, not warning.
But apology given under a table is not protection. It is permission for the insult above it to continue.
Vanessa understood that better than I did. She never raised her voice first. She started with small things: moving my cup away from the good tea, laughing when Margaret called me too quiet, borrowing a scarf and returning it with perfume that was not mine. Each time Daniel said, "Don't mind her." Each time I minded a little less out loud and a little more somewhere no one saw.
Daniel sat beside me, thumb moving over his phone.
A message flashed across the screen before he dimmed it.
Victor Liang: Final review tomorrow still good, right?
Daniel locked the phone too quickly.
He did not look at me.
I did not ask.
Victor was Vanessa's younger brother. His company, Horizon Materials, had been open for barely two years, but the Hales had spent the last six months treating him like the man who would save them all. He was chasing a huge supply order with Meridian Holdings. The number floating around the family was almost one hundred million.
Richard Hale told everyone the Hale family was about to rise with him.
Margaret was more direct. Vanessa brought luck, she said. Vanessa knew how to help the family. I, the younger daughter-in-law who had married Daniel, took up a chair and offered nothing.
Vanessa had dressed for the performance. New cream dress, gold bangle, diamond studs. She ate two bites of fish and put her fork down. Her eyes moved to my wrist.
"You've worn that bracelet for a long time," she said.
I looked at the red agate circling my wrist. The color was deep, almost wine-dark. It was not the most expensive piece my mother left me, but she had chosen it with her own hands.
"It's not for show," I said.
Vanessa reached for it. "Let me see."
I moved my hand away. "I don't lend it."
Her face changed at once.
"I only want to look. Are you afraid I'll find out it's fake?"
The table went quiet for one beat.
Richard raised his cup as if the words had not reached him.
Daniel stared at his phone.
Margaret spat a seed shell into a small dish. "Claire, don't be so tense. Your mother's family isn't what it used to be. Wearing something to keep up appearances is normal."
Vanessa laughed.
"My brother meets real clients now. Their wives wear real jewelry. Red agate like that? You can buy it online for a few hundred dollars."
I set down my fork. "Vanessa, stop there."
"Oh, now you're upset?"
She stood, came around half the table, and grabbed my wrist.
Her nails bit into my skin. Daniel finally lifted his head.
"Vanessa," he said quietly, "don't make a scene."
He said it to her, but his eyes warned me.
Do not make this worse.
Vanessa did not let go. "I'm just checking."
I twisted my wrist back. "Let go."
The bracelet slid halfway over my hand. Vanessa jerked harder. I heard the thin scrape of stone against bone.
Daniel frowned. "Claire, let her see it for a second."
That was the last sentence he said as my husband.
Vanessa yanked. The bracelet came free. She held it above her head as if she had won a prize.
"If it's real, why are you so scared?"
I stood. "Give it back."
"Say please."
"Give it back."
Vanessa's mouth curled. "Still acting precious."
Then she opened her fingers.
The bracelet struck the marble floor.
The sound was small. Too small for what it broke.
Red pieces scattered under the table. One shard slid to Daniel's shoe and stopped there.
No one moved.
Margaret cracked another seed. "Broken things ward off bad luck. Don't be dramatic."
Richard lifted his tea. His eyelids did not rise.
Daniel looked down at the shard near his shoe, then looked back at his phone.
I crouched and gathered the largest piece. A sharp edge cut my finger. Blood dotted the red stone.
My mother had put that bracelet on me six months before she died.
"A woman can lower her head to get through a hard day," she had told me. "But never lower yourself into the dust."
At twenty-five, I had thought she was being sentimental.
At twenty-eight, kneeling beside the Hale dining table, I understood.
I slid the shard into my pocket and wiped my finger with a napkin.
Then I unlocked my phone.
Meridian Holdings' internal approval page opened with my face ID.
Final authorization: Horizon Materials. Contract value: $98 million.
Status: pending beneficiary authorization.
No one at the table asked why I had access to Meridian's final authorization page. They had spent years pretending my work was a hobby attached to my mother's old connections. That suited them. It let them ask for introductions while laughing at the person who could make those introductions matter.
Meridian Holdings had been my mother's company before it became the quiet machine behind several investment arms. After she died, most people assumed a board and a trustee ran it for me. That was partly true. They ran operations. They did not own my voting rights. For high-risk supplier approvals tied to related-party guarantees, my authorization was still required.
Daniel knew that. He had watched me sign three such approvals in our study. He had once brought me tea while I worked through a risk report and said he was proud of me. Later, when Victor's company entered Meridian's supplier pool, Daniel asked questions that sounded casual. What did final review mean? Could a beneficiary delay it? What counted as a conflict?
I answered because he was my husband.
He listened because he was planning to use the answers.
Margaret noticed the screen first. "What are you doing?"
"Clearing accounts," I said.
I tapped Cancel Authorization.
A confirmation window appeared.
I tapped it again.
The room stayed silent for three seconds.
Then Vanessa's phone rang.

My Perverse: You're mine, you son of a bitch
Vincenzo Valentini is a man who sees the world as a business counter and human beings as merchandise.
The owner of an empire built upon corpses and submission, he is the reflection of pure perversity.
When fate places Andrew Thompson, the son of his greatest rival, into his hands, the plan was simple: use him, break him, and discard him like a toy that has lost its appeal.
What Vincenzo did not expect was that, beneath the youthful skin and the appearance of innocence, Andrew hid the same abyss as he did.
Vincenzo never wanted redemption. He never wanted someone to save him from his own darkness. He was seeking a mirror. And in Andrew, he found the partner who, upon seeing his blood-stained hands, does not recoil in terror, but trembles with desire.
In this perverse game, the "little toy" proves to be the perfect executioner. The mafia leader found someone who not only accepts his cruel side but cultivates it, feeding the monster Vincenzo has always been.
Where there should have been fear, lust emerged. Where there should have been hatred, a perverse loyalty was born. Andrew Thompson is the dark reflection of Vincenzo, the soldier the underworld did not see coming, and the man who proved that, for some, paradise only makes sense if it is in the middle of chaos.
Vincenzo opened the doors to his empire, but Andrew was the only one capable of invading his heart.
They are not heroes. They are hell on earth.

Driven out by her adoptive mother and sexually harassed by her boss, she stumbles into a seedy bar, desperate to drown her sorrows. There she meets Alex: sharp, devastatingly handsome, and impossibly charming.
What starts as a wild one-night stand blossoms into a tender, almost surreal romance—art galleries, riverside walks, and whispered promises that feel too perfect to be real. But when Alex vanishes without a word after a morning of gentle intimacy, Sarah is left with a hollow ache and a creeping doubt.
Their encounter was no accident. Behind Alex's blue eyes and skilled touch lies a darkness far deeper than she ever imagined—and the love that burned so bright may come with a price that could destroy her.

Pregnant by My Husband's Rival Alpha
Those words should have destroyed me, but the truth was worse: I'd been used as a broodmare by the man who swore to love me, set up in a hotel room with a stranger because My husband Alexander Cross couldn't father children himself, and now I carried the secret babies of Damon Lester—the most powerful and dangerous Alpha in San Loris—while my own family replaced me with the daughter they'd always wanted. But when that same stranger's doctor appeared at my door, when twenty million dollars exchanged hands over a fake perfume bearing my secret identity, and when Damon's gray eyes locked onto mine with recognition I couldn't afford, I realized my carefully hidden life as the legendary perfumer Vera was colliding with a pregnancy that could cost me everything.
Could I protect my babies from the husband plotting my death, hide my true identity from the Alpha who's been hunting me for years, and reclaim the freedom I'd buried along with my dreams—even if it means standing alone against the wolves who see me as nothing more than a womb to be used and discarded?
The Rejected Luna’s Rise
Luna Ariana Volkstane slid the formal rejection request across the table. "Let's end this bond. It's better for you, me, and your first love."
He just smirked. "You want me to reject you? You think you can break our bond that easily?"
So she did. Ariana cut ties with him completely, poured herself into her career, and rose to global fame as a legendary healer, her knowledge of rare herbs, wolf anatomy, and ancient magic sought after across continents.
The powerful suitors lined up. The Alpha of an overseas empire whispered, "Ariana, hurry up and perform the severing ritual. I can't wait to claim you." A powerful pack leader vowed, "I'll be there with you the day you break the bond." A legendary wolf attorney promised, "I'll handle your rejection case with the pack council myself."
Ariana just rubbed her temples. It's not that she didn't want the split, she wanted it more than anything, it's just that the Alpha she was mated to refused to let go.
Finally, she announced, "Whoever can officially get me rejected, I'll put you at the head table of my bond-breaking celebration."
Not long after, Alpha Damian was served the official rejection request right in the middle of an emergency pack council meeting. That same afternoon, he was attacked by rogues at the gates of his own territory.
When Ariana showed up at the pack infirmary with healing herbs, she repeated calmly, "Let's sever the mate bond. It's better for you, me, and everyone else."
But the cold, untouchable Alpha pulled her into his arms, his eyes blood-red with fury. "You want me to reject you? Over my dead body."
