Introduction

I stood there for a moment, taking it all in. I couldn't believe what happened to me a few weeks ago and now my life has taken a new turn especially now that I am pregnant.

Imogen and Adam are best friends from diapers. They grew up together, and they shared a deep bond that developed into love. Both of them knew they were in love with each other but were finding it hard to make it obvious since the Alpha king doesn't want an orphan for his son.
One day, Imogen and Adam had a one-night stand mistakenly. They didn't plan it. They both regret it because they didn't know what may become of their friendship but as time goes Adam accepts it as fate while Imogen accepts it as a prerequisite for Adam to choose her as his mate on his coronation day.
Unfortunately, Adam chooses his fated mate Maggie, a beautiful girl, who the Alpha king wants him to choose on his coronation day. Imogen could not withstand the cruelty of love, she feels betrayed by the only person she loves in this world. Imogen leaves the pack and part to a faraway City where humans dominate to focus on her dream and embrace her fate.

Chapter 1

" You may now choose your mate" A middle-aged man who was balded on top swiveled his hand at Adam who was now the new Alpha king of the pack.

Silence embraced the hallway as this moment finally came - the long-awaited moment and also the most precious and cruel moment in the Red Moon pack - precious because of the bright outlook of who the next Luna would be and cruel because some postpubescent teens who think they would be chosen would be dispirited if they are not chosen. Moreover, I was sorry to say they would not even be chosen.

Who else could Adam choose as his Luna? Absolutely nobody except me. I had known him ever since forever and our friendship had developed into love and a one-night stand. I was sure he was going to choose me even as I knew that his father doesn't want an orphan like me for his son but still, I had this assurance that Adam could not point at any other girl except me in his coronation. This moment had been my long-awaited bullishness since I knew Adam and I couldn't wait to walk up the stage elegantly as the new Luna of the Red Moon pack.

Adam stood up from his golden chair, not sparing me a glimpse as his gaze danced around the ladies who were present at his coronation ceremony. I was sure he knew where I was but it seemed I was not what he was looking for as he continue moving his gaze around expectantly until it landed on a busty fair pretty lady who was seated on a single chair alone. Her eyes were flickering like fallen stars, she has a perfect oval facial shape, and her smile as Adam's gaze fell on her was a killer smile.

" No, it must not be what I am thinking," I said to myself amidst fear.

I watched Adam's lips as they parted for words until I heard a strange but familiar name escape his lips. "Maggie" Adam pronounced, wearing a facial expression I could not tell the meaning. I could say he was very happy and I could say he was very sad at the same time for calling out such a name instead of Imogen.

My heart thumped to race as if it would break out. I discovered as I raised my hand to my chest, that tears would not stop rushing out of my eyes like a busted pipe.

What the fuck was this? Did Adam just choose Maggie as his mate and Luna? Oh, my goodness. I am in the biggest trouble and right now I was just a few meters from death. I wish someone could just tap me quickly and tell me it was a dream and I will never go back to sleep but unfortunately, no one. A round of applause that blared through the microphones hung at the corners of the hall as Maggie walked up to the stage optimistically made me realize it was not a dream but a reality. Correction- a bad reality.

I know Maggie, the poorest student in our class as far as in high school days. She is the daughter of a Beta of another neighboring pack that sweeps just about 30 miles away from ours. She is pretty and I would not deny that even if I did envy her but one thing I failed to understand was the recent chemistry between him and Adam. Though I perceived something like this because the whole of last week was an endless drudge of gossip about Adam and Maggie's secret affairs which Adam had denied surreptitiously up to this time.

Maggie walked up to the altar where a middle-aged mistress welcomed her neck with a bronze chain - a first gift given to the new Luna. Her forehead was cleaned up by two maids in royal attires with a crystal liquid whose evocative scent osmosed through the entire hallway. This was the first ritual done for Maggie. She was given some food and some hard drinks - a culture that tells the new Luna that she is now a Luna and she is not supposed to eat or drink such a meal again after taking it for the last time. Meat like pork, reptiles, and some amphibians. Drinks like beer, tequila, and hot were all prohibited from that day. The ritual was simply saying that Luna of the pack should not drink or eat poisonous meats for pleasure.

After the rituals, amidst the ongoing celebration in the aura, Maggie walked up to Adam where Adam's hands were offered. Maggie elapsed the steps and rested her two hands on his hands. A blush flushed through Adam's face as he helped her to his bronze chair and sat her down. They looked so perfect but imperfect to me.

I stood right there, experiencing the poignant part of my life or was it a disgrace? I could say it was a big disgrace and desolation because most of the pack members knew how close we were so rumors had spread even before now that I would be his choice and this alone was a slap on my face anytime I remember he just chose Maggie over me.

Adam and Maggie were called upon for prayers. The previous Alpha prayed for them and they were dismissed and told to have their first kiss right before everyone. It began with a slight touch and eye contact before Adam drew Maggie into himself and locked lips.

My feet began to quiver in pain, my body hairs were all standing erect, and my body would not just pump more adrenaline rush into me as I faced the cruelty of love. I was so close to collapse but just before then, I managed to scream out his name.

Adam!!! How dare you? You will pay for this!!!

I screamed, drawing the attention of the people present at the Coronation ceremony. All faces were turned to me in amazement. Maybe they were so scared of me.

" Who dares interrupt this moment?" The former Alpha's voice howled louder to the sky as he jerked up to find me amidst crowds.

I knew my death was near if I didn't leave this place. My gaze fell on Adam's gaze for the last time before I jumped out of the congregation and shifted to my wolf.

" Catch her and make sure you bring her here dead or alive" Adam commanded.

I ran harder into the woods, weeping and feeling so rejected and desolate as mighty wolves were running harder after my life. I jumped into the big river border of our pack and that was the last time I heard my prey's paws running after me.

On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...

Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.

George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.

His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"

Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.

When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"

George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"

"I'm afraid that's impossible."

Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

I fell. My head cracked against the corner.
Warmth trickled down my neck. Blood.
Their laughter turned to gasps.
The door slammed.
I tried to stand. Couldn't. The room was spinning, fading to black.

"Let me go," I whimper, my body trembling with need. "I don't want you touching me."

Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.

"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."

The bad news is that humans aren't supposed to know about all this magic stuff and so now I'm magically bound to this bar until I can convince them that I won't go telling everyone. Or I die, whichever comes first. Sadly dying is seeming more and more likely because someone is after me. I don't know who or why but they are dangerous and they have magic. "White wolf! Kill that monster!"
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé.
Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now—billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn’t mind. I’d crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one?
Wrong.
One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That’s when it hit me—he didn’t love me. He didn’t even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn’t even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup.
So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster—my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise.
Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol.
Enter him.
Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I’d met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes.
It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised.
But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life.
And, as it turned out, the best decision I’d ever made.
Because my one-night stand isn’t just some random guy. He’s richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with.
And now, he’s not letting me go.

They say your life can change in a heartbeat.
Mine changed in the time it took to open a door.
Behind it: my fiancé Nicholas with another woman.
Three months until our wedding. Three seconds to watch it all burn.
I should have run. Should have screamed. Should have done anything except stand there like a fool.
Instead, I heard the devil himself whisper in my ear:
"If you're willing, I could marry you."
Daniel. The brother I was warned about. The one who made Nicholas look like a choir boy.
He leaned against the wall, watching my world implode.
My pulse thundered. "What?"
"You heard me." His eyes burned into mine. "Marry me, Emma."
But as I stared into those magnetic eyes, I realized something terrifying:
I wanted to say yes to him.
Game on.

"You're like a sister to me."
Those were the actual words that broke the camel's back.

I knew from the beginning that Tristan Hayes was a line I shouldn't cross.
He wasn't just anyone, he was my brother's best friend. The man I spent years secretly wanting.
But that night... we were broken. We had just buried our parents. And the grief was too heavy, too real...so I begged him to touch me.

Then left me bleeding with six words that burned deeper than rejection ever could.
So, I ran. Away from everything that cost me pain.
