Chapter 4

Kendall was already waiting at the airport. She spotted me and ran over, throwing herself into my arms. "What took you so long?"

I grabbed a handful of her ass. "Miss me?"

The tips of her ears went red. God, she was easy to rile up.

She pulled out her phone and showed me a flyer. "Okay, so the med spa in my building is doing Glow Week. If you prepay ten grand, they throw in a fifteen-hundred-dollar treatment for free!"

I frowned. Ten grand. That was the third time she'd asked in three weeks. That was getting to be a lot.

She caught the look on my face and leaned in, breathing into my ear. "Babe, I know it sounds like a lot. But it's all for you."

"Oh yeah?"

She dropped her eyes, all shy. "I only book the intimate treatments. Why do you think every time with me feels like the first time?"

Watching her blush like that, my irritation disappeared. This woman could get me going without even trying. She never ran off to shower at the worst possible moment.

Most women don't get it. When a man cheats, nine times out of ten it's because his wife is stiff and boring and has no idea how to read the room. She never knows when to give and when to back off.

If Audrey were half the woman Kendall was—no, a tenth—I'd put more into our marriage. Instead of what I was doing now, which was pouring money into a woman on the side.

"Do it. I'll have Kyle send the money."

"Thank you, my king! I knew you loved me best!"

My king. Every time she said it, I felt ten feet tall.

We skipped the line and boarded first. I'd barely sat down when my phone rang. Kyle.

"Hey, boss. I followed her for a while, and... Audrey didn't go to work today."

I blanked. "What do you mean, she didn't go to work?"

"I called her office. The receptionist says she quit. Last spring. About a year and a half ago."

"What?"

A year and a half? How did I not know?

"So where is she?"

"Still on her. She dropped Poppy off at school, then dropped off a bunch of gift baskets at different people's houses. Now she's heading toward the waterfront."

My eyes narrowed. School drop-off, gift baskets, the waterfront? What the hell was she doing?

A flight attendant leaned over and asked me to switch my phone to airplane mode. I clenched my jaw and lowered the phone from my ear.

Kendall saw my face and ordered me an orange juice. "Babe, are you feeling okay?"

I didn't take it. My head was a mess.

My wife had been with me for fourteen years, and I'd had no idea she could be this calculating. If I got proof she was cheating, she could forget about custody.

Right before I switched to airplane mode, Kyle sent a picture.

She went into this building. The front desk wouldn't let me past the lobby. This is as far as I got.

I tapped it open, and my eyes went wide.

It was The Pierline.

The building where I'd rented Kendall's condo.
