Chapter 1
Damien POV
Running through the woods, I smell copper and iron. Lifting my nose into the air turning to the direction it's strongest. Something telling me to hurry run faster. Getting closer I smell the rotting flesh of a rouge and blood lots of blood. Then I see the fight, a small silver wolf is fighting with a large mud-brown wolf. Though small the silver wolf seems to have the upper hand. She’s fast darting around the man biting at his back legs and ripping the flesh. Blood oozed down over his paws turning the ground into a muddy slippery mess. As I’m about to help this. She-wolf I caught movement in the corner of my eye. There crouched low is a dirty red wolf. Its red-crazed eyes darted between the two before finally landing on the silver wolf. With a snarl, the red wolf waits to jump in. Glancing back at the two fightings I see when the male notices the other wolf, a small smirk, and his eyes harden again on the silver one. Noticing he no longer is fighting but maneuvering the little she-wolf where he wants her.
As soon as he has her in place the red one springs to jump on the silver wolf. I jump at the same time over the pair catching the neck of the red one. My size and power are too much for this weak rouge snapping her neck as my jaws close around her. As on land, I shake her dead body she-wolf's head. Dripping it to the ground I turn back as I hear a pain-filled howl. Looking over I see the male dropping to the ground in a moment of weakness howling and whimpering. The silver wolf uses this to her advantage ripping into his neck. Dripping the chunk of his neck on the ground as he takes his last breath.
Turning to me she dips her head in a sign of thanks and respect. She turns and runs I give chase. She rounds a tree grabs a squirming bundle and runs off. I have to pick up the pace if she makes it to the border I'll lose her. Um on her heels about to pounce when I hear a loud wail of a child. causing me to stumble. I see a small hand reach out of the bundle. I pick up the pace….BEEP BEEP BEEP…
Shooting up in bed I’m covered in sweat breathing hard mussels sore like I’ve been running for hours. Why do I keep having this dream? Who is that wolf? Who is that baby? Ugh, I need answers. Laying back down trying to remember every part of my dream. Have I seen these wolves before? No, I don’t think so. Fudge brownies! I’m broken out of my thoughts with a mind link from my best friend Brendon.
“D, you up yet man?”
“Ya, what’s up?”
“We have early training today remember? You have 10 minutes to get here.”
“shit shit shit oh my way”
Damn it. Well, no time to shower. Rushing to get dressed slipping my shoes on as I'm running down the stairs. Thankful for the early hour for once cause there’s no one up yet. Being the future alpha they only have to train an extra, three times a week. Brendon is my beta, and I have early morning training. Master trainer, Owen has been the shadow packs head warrior for ten years now. Not only he is the head warrior, master the trainer he is the head of our shadow elite. The shadow elite is a top-secret warrior wolves. Unless you are on the team you don’t know who normally team. The only one not on the team who knows who a shadow wolf is is the alpha. Every alpha in our line has served on the shadow elite and I’m no different. Brendon is the first in his line to be a shadow. His family looked at the shadow pack when his dad was in his early teens. He and my dad became fast friends and developed into a bonded pair making them alpha and beta.
Now normally beta is passed through the bloodline, but for my father, that was not possible was going to have to choose a beta. The beta at the time lost his wife and unborn pup in a rouge attack. He never remarried. Never looking for a second chance mate. He said no one could replace his Mary. The pack didn’t have a beta heir. Who knew the need for a new doctor would bring with it the future beta?
Making it to the training grounds with no time to spare Master Owen glared at me. “when You’re on time your late young alpha. Remember that. Now, let's start with, oh let's see a 10-mile run. GO!”
“You could have told me he was in a bad mood.” I linked to Brendon as we take off. “now what fun would that have been” Brendon linked back laughing.
The sun is starting to rise as we finish our run and start with drills. By the time training is over it’s been two hours of none -stop drills in hand-to-hand combat along with human-to-wolf. We have to be prepared for anything. Both Brendon and I are hot sweaty messes in need of hot showers. Heading back to the pack house we go our separate ways.
Back in my room, I strip out of my clothes as I’m walking to my bathroom. The shower called my name. When a hand slowly runs up my back I still turn to find the pack slut Melody. “what do you wait Melody?” backing out of her reach. “I came to see if you might need a hand washing all that sweat off?” she says trying to sound sexy and failing. Turning her around and pushing her towards my door, “I don’t know what gave you that idea I have never nor will I need help from you. Now leave and don’t come back in my room uninvited!” I tell her. Pushing her out the door and slamming it.
Stepping into the hot shower I feel my muscles relax. The water ran over my body in a soft lover's embrace. Washing away the sweat and dirt of this morning’s training. Placing my hands on the wall bowing my head thinking about this morning. The way Brendon's body moved. Slick with sweat. I can see a drip running down his beck slowly over his collarbone. Down his perfect chest. Feeling myself harden thinking about how I want to lick that bead of sweat from his chest. Reaching down wrapping my hand around myself. Slowly stroking up with a slight twist as I reach the head. Seeing Brendon shirtless under the rising sun. The way his body moves wishing his hands would touch me softly. Running his hands over my chest down my abs. Leaning to me his lips brushing against my neck as his fingers play with the waistband of my shorts. Stroking myself faster squeezing tighter rubbing my thumb over the head as my hand made it to the top. My other hand finds my balls squeezing and massaging them as I stroke faster. Imagining it’s Brendon's hand wrapped around my cock. With a final tug, I roar out my release spraying the shower wall. Watching my cum wash down the drain I tell myself I can’t keep thinking of Brandon. This has to stop. He will find his mate and it’s not me.
Dressing and heading to the dining hall for breakfast I see my parents along with Brendon's parents. They seem to be in a serious talk. Reaching our table they stop talking and ask where Brendon is. Right then he makes his way through the door. Once we are both seated my father addresses us. “How has the training been going boys?” alpha Jackson says. “Good” we both reply. Dad grunts and I eye him. He is acting odd this morning. “What is it? Your acting strange?” I say. “ Oh what. Yes well we, need to have a meeting after breakfast. You boys eat then come to my office when you're done.” Alpha Jackson says. “Yes alpha” we both reply. Our parents got up and left.
Reaching for the plate of heavenly goodness my second weakness is bacon. Oh, how I love this meat. Piling on my plate Brendon asks why I was late this morning. With it just us at the table now I tell him about my dreams. He listens with a look of concern on his beautiful face. Wait what stop that? He's got a mate out there, one that is not me and two a female! All of a sudden his eyes light up telling me he has an idea. Raising my eyebrow waiting for him to spill I suck on my piece of bacon.
“Why don’t you go see Lady Olivia?” Brendon says. “ Oh, my bacon bits why didn’t I think of that?” I exclaim. Brendon is laugh when he pats my shoulder saying “that’s why I’m your beta. I always see reason.” Brandon says with a smirk. “okay okay ill give it to you, this time. We better hurry up don’t want to keep the alpha waiting too long.” I say shoving the last of my bacon in my mouth just as I see the twins enter.
“Alpha,” James and Zane say at the same time. “gamma delta what can I do for you?” “alpha asked for us to meet with him and you. Do you know what it's about man? I swear we haven’t done anything.” Zane asks. “Nah don’t know what he wants and what didn’t you do?” I ask raising my eyebrow. The twins look at each other smile and say “nothing” at the same time. “remind me why I picked you as gamma and delta?” they both smirk and shrug their solder when James says “Cause you can't live without us. We keep like sexy.” Rolling my eyes I get up taking my plate to the bin to be washed. Thanking the omegas for a wonderful meal.
Heading up to the alpha's office I can smell Brendon and boy does he smell amazing this crush is going to break my heart soon. Brendon bumps his shoulder with mine he links “ what’s wrong?” turning to him for a second I shrug my shoulder. How do you tell your best friend you want to feel his lips on you? You want to run your tongue over every inch of his body. Knowing that he’s straight. I just need this month to hurry up turn 18 and find my mate. I need this crush to go away I can't have it causing problems with our friendship. James and Zane bring up the rear as we close in on the alpha's office. As I raise my hand to knock we hear “Come in boys.”
Opening the door and walking in the whole leadership is their alpha, Luna, beta, beta female, gamma, and delta both of who have lost their mates. I look to my friends and future leadership seeing them just as concerned as I am. What did we do I'm racking my brain. Nothing g both I and Brendon made it into the shadows and the twins are the top warriors. All doing well in school. Looking to my father for answers.
“I'm sure you boys are wondering why I've asked you here?” alpha Jackson asks. We all nod but say nothing. “ Well, it seems we have been invited to attend the blood moon pack's alpha and Luna ceremony.” He says “Nope!” I say “But going to that egotistical backstabbing alphas ceremony.” I say crossing my arms and the boys mimic me nodding their heads. “Oh yes, we are. The son sent words that he's inviting all the packs because he wants to start his role as alpha in peace. So we are going. He has also asked if we would evaluate his warriors to see where they need adjustments. They have been having a rouge issue. So in two weeks, we will be leaving for about a month.” “ what and spend our birthdays away from home?” looking at Brendon whose birthday is two days before mine. He has the same look of this can't be real.
We have never been away from the pack for our birthday. Looking at my parents they both have the same sad look. “Son we will celebrate properly when we get back. I'm sorry. But while there, we will have a private celebration for you both. You never know it may be a blessing, you could fund your mates.” Mom says with a sad smile. What can I say to that? Your right nothing. “We will be ready,” I say looking at my friends and my parents. We all sit silently for a moment. “Is that all dad?” I ask wanting to get out of here I need to hit something or go for a run. “I want to run” Drake my wolf says “fine a run it is.” Alpha Jackson nods his head as we stand.
Storming out of the house I head for the woods stripping my clothes along the way not caring who sees me naked. Just as I hit the tree line I leap forward and shift into my large black wolf. Drake is so black, he seems to suck the light out from around us. The only color we have are shining silver eyes. We hit the ground and speed away.
