I ate breakfast with Kelly, her face looked tense. She will take a math test today, I looked at her for a moment, Kelly already looks more mature. She let her long hair down with a yellow flower hair clip, my sweet little sister.
"Katie? Are you okay? Did you have a nightmare again?" Asked my mother who suddenly interrupted my reverie. Yes, I admit that since I was released from the hospital two months ago, I have often been silent and daydreaming in the midst of people gathered. I feel like I can't be myself anymore.
"I'm okay, mom!"
"If you don't feel well, you should go to your room and rest. I will call Doctor Chris to check your condition." She asked while looking at me full of worry, I felt bad if she made her worry.
"I'm okay, I'm fine. I just saw Kelly's appearance earlier and I thought she was a teenage girl now." I answered while waiting for the reaction of my mother who was still standing next to me.
Kelly looked at the watch on her hand and immediately got up from her place while gulping down the remaining milk in her glass.
"Then, I'll go first, the exam will start at 08.30. I can't be late. Mom, maybe I'll come home late again today, because after school I'll go to the library with my friends. Later I'll be late-"
"To the library or going on a date?" Kelly's words were stopped because Daniel, who had just arrived, immediately cut her off.
Casually and without feeling guilty, he pulled out a chair and sat down straight away, his hands busy taking two slices of white bread while spreading chocolate jam on the bread sheet. Kelly looked annoyed, she really didn't like it every time her older brother interrupted her words. The two of them never got along, at least that's what I know so far.
"I'm not dating, besides I don't have a boyfriend!" Kelly stressed while raising her voice. I can only be silent every time I see them arguing.
"Huh? Really? You think I'm stupid, last week you went with your boyfriend to the cinema, right? I caught you holding hands with him!"
"What? That's not true, mom! Don't believe this liar's words! Mom, remind me that he often lies to you, right now he is also committing crimes!" Kelly whined, her face reddening every time Daniel refuted her words, which was actually the opposite. He seemed satisfied if he could beat his younger sister.
"Oh my God, why do you two always fight? Kelly, you better go now, or you'll be late for the exam." Asked mom who was trying to remain patient with the two of them.
"Why did you tell me to go? Do you believe what she said now?" Kelly's eyes filled with tears, she tried to hold back tears when she felt cornered.
"Of course mom believes me, if he wasn't your boyfriend how could you watch romantic films with him. Maybe you've already kissed him, right?" Said Daniel, increasingly enthusiastic about cornering Kelly.
"No, that's not true, I never did anything with him!" Kelly sobbed, she covered her face.
"Daniel, you better stop making fun of your sister or I won't give you pocket money this month. Do you understand?" Mother threatened Daniel while glaring at him sharply.
"Why do you still defend her? Every time I make a mistake, you always gets angry and threatens me, but if she does it, she can easily be forgiven."
"That's because you're a man, Daniel!" I finally spoke after being silent for minutes watching their argument.
"What?"
"You are the only man in this house, that's why mom ducates you and treats you differently. You know, dad has left us, Jennie is also married and has her own family. In this house there are only mom, me, you and Kelly. Because you are the only man, that's why mom always relies on you. If you have any objections, you should just say, so that in the future she won't ask you to look after and protect your sisters." I said flatly, it felt difficult to show my true emotions because the feelings were so strong that to do so, I was always defeated by the pressure and pain I had felt before.
Mother looked at me with a sad look, I know she felt sad hearing what I said. But I had no other choice but to make Daniel aware even though it made him feel burdened. Daniel lowered his face, about a minute later he got up from his place and walked towards the front yard of the house.
"Mom, I'm sorry, I can explain to you-"
"If you want to explain it, it's best to keep it in your mind and focus on your exam today, don't let what Daniel says make your grades bad. When your exam is finished, then you can tell everything to me."
"Okay, I'll go first!" Kelly said quietly, she still felt guilty.
"Katie, I'll go! See you?"
"Yes, I hope your exam is successful!" I say with a small smile.
Kelly returned my smile with a forced smile. I looked at her back with feelings that were difficult for me to understand.
"Give up, Lilith! Give up!"
I heard a strange voice that seemed to whisper in my ear, the voice of a man whose face I couldn't see in my dream, the strange dream.
