Chapter 1

Chapter 1.

Narrator’s POV.

“Daphne, would you step out of the car?”, the middle aged woman seethed as she tried to drag her disobedient daughter out of the vehicle, the younger girl struggled out of her mother’s tight grip, “Stop it, you are causing a scene”, the woman’s eyes scanned through the crowded place with embarrassment laced into them,

“It was hard enough that you tried to force me into a white dress”, the immature twenty-two-year-old said as she folded her arms across her chest,

“Which I vividly remember you spilling coffee on- purposely”, her mother eyed her in disgust, “Out of all clothes, why this one?”. Daphne looked down at her outfit, finding absolutely nothing wrong with it, it was a black jumpsuit- way better than a white dress, only Luna’s are meant to wear that.

“I like it”, she shrugged her shoulders, “Why does the Alpha king even want everyone here?”, she nodded at the large castle in front of them and folded her arms again, acting like a defiant child,

“I do not know that, Daphne”, the older woman let out a frustrated sigh and leaned down once again to speak to her woman-child, “Look, what if I told you your father was in there? Then would you come out?”, Daphne’s ears perked up at the mention of her father, she had not seen him in months as he was off working and trying to make a living as a Delta. She nodded her head and finally came down from the car,

“You will regret this if you are lying to me”, she threatened whilst her mother rolled her eyes at her.

Stepping into the larger than life castle was like entering a whole new world, it was the castle where the infamous alpha king himself lived, he had lived there for centuries. Yes, the most powerful, ruthless, arrogant, dominant and power hungry wolf of all time was over two hundred years old but had the body of a man in his late twenties.

Rumor had it that the ballroom in the Castle could contain over four million people. That was a huge number.

Looking at the other girls, clad in their expensive outfits and painted faces, Daphne felt out of place but she didn't let it get to her. It was her decision to wear this so she will not regret it.

The ballroom was well decorated and all the ranks had their own sections. The Alphas being at the front dressed up in their expensive dresses, jewelries and shoes. They all looked vain, the way they sat and eat. You could tell their smiles were fake from a mile away.

The betas were next in line with their also expensive looking ornaments. They looked fake. All of them.

The gammas were also under the proletarian class but they still had money. Lots of money, enough to look sophisticated.

Then Daphne's class, the Deltas. They still managed to get dressed up but She, Daphne looked out of place. Honestly, she couldn't care less. This was impromptu and she was taken by surprise.

At the back, the timid omegas sat. They tried for the occasion but adding up all their clothes together couldn't buy an Alpha's shoes. That was just how it was.

Daphne scanned around the Delta area looking for a particular brown haired man. Then she spotted him. Her father had saved two seats for his wife and daughter, he loved them very much even though he was hardly ever around as he was not of the upper class and had to fend for his family some way.

"Dad", she greeted as he hugged her tightly,

"I missed you darling", he whispered into her ear and she nodded. They broke apart and he went on to his wife, giving her a chaste kiss on the lip.

After, they all sat down and started catching up on things they all missed, it was a once in a while family time for them as they were rarely a complete number and Daphne was not so close to her mother as she was to her father. She had always been a daddy's girl and nothing was going to change that.

"What exactly does the Alpha king want?", Daphne asked since it had been troubling her mind since she got there,

"Daphne, I told you to drop this conversation", her mother snapped,

"It's alright", he told his wife then turned to his daughter, "Hes' looking for a mate", her dad whispered to her.

"Then why invite everyone when he will probably just pick from the alpha?", she wondered,

"One can never know", her father shrugged and continued talking to her mother in hushed voices, she stood up, suddenly feeling the urge to stretch her legs.

The alpha king is looking for a mate? But why now? He has lived for centuries, why didn't he get a mate years ago?

Her mind roamed everywhere except from where she actually was, Why was she bothered over something that was none of her business?

Maybe it was because she pitied whoever he would choose as a mate in advance. He was ruthless, dark and could not love. Most people that had met him had said that, of course none of them lived long enough to tell the full story.

Still deep in her thoughts, she let her legs take her wherever it wanted to take her. Well until she hit someone that was, a loud screech came out of the mouth of the person she bumped into as the wine in her hand spilled all over her white dress.

White?

Daphne's eyes widened as she realized she was at the Alpha's section. How did she even make it that far? How was she so lost in her thoughts that she didn't realize she was trespassing? Was she in trouble? Oh no.

"Oh my God! What is wrong with you? Can't you say sorry?", the blonde haired lady screamed at her purposely to draw more attention to them, Daphne wasn't shocked, the alpha bloods were just like that, seeking unnecessary attention.

"I'm sorry?", Daphne said but it sounded like a question,

"Are you retarded?", she screeched again, Daphne was truly confused at the way the girl acted, clearly, they were of the same age bracket but she acted like a child,

"I said I'm sorry, didn't I?", She said quietly,

"Are you talking back?", she yelled again, she looked mad, "Dad", she yelled and a handsome man with a woman latched unto him came towards them,

"Was that really necessary?", Daphne asked her, while the blonde stuck her tongue out and started to fake tears. Daphne stared at her in disbelief. How could she be so inconsiderate?

"How dare you?", her mother yelled after looking at her daughter's ruined dress, "Do you know how expensive that dress was you filthy bitch?".

"Daddy, how am I going to meet the alpha king. You promised me he'll choose me", the young lady said while faking tears. This caused Daphne to roll her eyes on instinct.

"Did you just roll your eyes at an alpha?", the girls father boomed, his face forming a scowl. "I'll have you know that I am the future father in law to the alpha king and you are in trouble". He called a few of his men over and Daphne got scared at the menacing look the men had on their faces. "Take her to the Alpha king", the man kept an evil smirk on his face that frightened her even more.

The men dragged her away and her shouts of protest could be heard by the party goers. Even her parents. As they moved her into a room, her father tried to go after her but there was no way her mother would let him go. She was about to loose her daughter and she refused to loose her husband as well. Besides, he stood no chance in combat with the alpha king so there was no use.

What could she have gotten herself into in the mere few minutes of their arrival?

Then again, it was Daphne they were talking about, she was sworn to rebellion and acted out of hand.

Daphne was finally pushed into a long hall and made to kneel before the alpha king, her head bent down by one of the men so she would not have the grace of seeing him. She wasn't as terrified as a normal Lycan should be but that didn't mean she wasn't scared either.

Who wouldn't be?

This was the alpha king. He was known to be ruthless and unforgiving.

"Release her", his voice sent a shiver down her spine and made her neck hair rise. On command, she was released and she stood up not so gracefully. A few second later, the alpha that she 'offended' walked in and bowed his head.

"Your highness", he greeted formally,

The alpha king turned and Daphne finally got to have a look at his face. The person that stood in front of her resembled a god with his perfect body and perfect face. His face was sculpted to perfection as everything on his face seemed to fit proportionally. But that was not the first thing that caught Daphne's attention. It was his radiant purple eyes and how the shone.

"What might I do for you Alpha Roland?", the Alpha king asked as he sat down on his thrown.

"Sire, I have brought you this prisoner. She was rude to my family and she purposefully spilled my daughter's wine all over her dress", his lie made Daphne furious, she could tolerate anything but she would not let this man lie against her like this,

"What? No! You are lying against me", she accused,

"How dare you accuse an alpha of lying. You are nothing but a worthless delta", he yelled at her but she stood her ground.

"I speak the truth and neither did you deny it", she smirked triumphantly at the look on the alpha's face. Never had he seen a delta stand up for their self. He immediately decided that he did not like her, she was a threat to him.

"Your highness, she how she speaks to me with little regard. This has to be unacceptable", Alpha Roland spoke up again now desperate to earn a reaction from the silent king who just had his eyes glued to Daphne. He too was in shock as it was completely scarce to see a Delta stick up for their self. He was also in awe that she did not care that she was talking back to an alpha right in front of him. "Your Highness", he called again finally gaining the king's attention.

"You and your men can leave. I'll deal with her", he said to the alpha. The men bowed but before they left, alpha Roland said,

"My lord, hope you are considering my beautiful daughter Emilia as a suitor for you, I will be honoured to have you in my family", the men turned to leave and Daphne could not refrain from rolling her eyes at the man's thirst for power. This action caught the alpha kings attention and he was humoured by her spit fire attitude.

Honestly, he had never really fancied Alpha Roland as he had the tendency to push his daughter on him. He honestly took no liking to the girl either, that he already knew without even meeting her. No offspring of Alpha Roland would be his mate.

The Alpha king was deep in thought until someone started to hum. It was Daphne. The place was eery quiet and she disliked quiet. Only both of them remained in the room and the tension seemed to rise as he snapped his mesmerizing purple eyes towards her, "What is your name?", he asked, his voice dripping with authority,

"Daphne Rosen", she answered. Normal protocol demands that once you address yourself to the alpha king, you must bow as a sign of respect but Daphne did not. Firstly, she was not one for stereotypes and secondly, she was going to die anyway, what is the point of kissing his royal ass?

Even though she downright disrespected him, he felt a sense of... infatuation towards her? Never had anybody dared to disrespect him in the slightest but now that someone actually took that step, he felt drawn to the person. "You disrespected an alpha", the Alpha king stated.

"Well his daughter acted like a bitch. And I don't mean it in a nice way", she told him not caring who she was standing in front of, "I mistakenly spilled her drink on her and she called her father after I apologized. He started talking and I rolled my eyes- that's on me. He then said he's the alpha king's future father in law...", she had lost him at that but she kept on rambling.

This alpha was completely absurd and overconfident, telling others that he was going to mate his daughter. "Hey, are you listening to me?", she snapped her fingers in his face and he gave her a questioning look before grabbing her hand. For someone so cold, he sure did have warm hands.

"You really are disrespectful", he stated, usually he would've been furious but surprisingly, he wasn't,

"So I've been told", she replied him. This new found courage she had developed was certainly going to put her into trouble. He released her hand and stood up with a sigh and walked to the other end if the hall.

"Leave, I'll deal with you later so do not even try to escape as my men will have you on close watch. I have things to do". Without another word, Daphne left. The Alpha king sighed, not even a thank you or bow, he just spared her life. Who was this girl?

Being second best is practically in my DNA. My sister got the love, the attention, the spotlight. And now, even her damn fiancé.
Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancĂ© now—billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn’t mind. I’d crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one?
Wrong.
One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That’s when it hit me—he didn’t love me. He didn’t even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn’t even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup.
So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster—my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise.
Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol.
Enter him.
Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I’d met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes.
It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised.
But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life.
And, as it turned out, the best decision I’d ever made.
Because my one-night stand isn’t just some random guy. He’s richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with.
And now, he’s not letting me go.
