Chapter 1

Jasmine's Pov

"You, don't want me anymore?" he sipped from his wine glass and then exhaled like he was bored, or had simply had enough of dealing with me,

"How many times do I have to say this, Jas?" Rowlan replied,

“As many times as it takes for you to tell me it’s all a prank!” I screeched. I couldn't possibly believe him.

We were good. So good, now all of a sudden he was leaving me? How was that even possible?

"If this is because I've been out with girls a lot lately, it'll stop soon. Soon after Veronica's wedding. You know I'm her chief bridesmaid."

"I really could care less about that, to be honest. you do you."

I bit on my wobbling lower lip, " But without you?"

He raised his glass toward me, "now you've caught on." he said with a smile and a wink,

"You scumbag!" I spat, tears trailing down my face, "How could you so easily push me away after everything we've been through?"

"It’s not that hard, considering the fact that life I value my life. “

“Value your life?” I questioned, and looked at him like he’d grown a second head, “what do you mean by that ?”

“Nothing.” He said and I watched his expression grow grim, “ Just be glad I'm not asking security to send you out on your way," he said and turned away from me.

Just like that? The man I loved was breaking my heart just like that? Like it was the easiest thing in the world.

But more than the pain I felt in my chest, was my wolf's pain. She was wailing and whining, and I was left to feel every bit of my pain and hers. And it was more than I could take.

"You're going to regret this. " I said with tears trailing down my face.

He pursed his lips and looked at me for a long time, before he shook his head and said, "I truly doubt that. But sure, whatever you say."

"Damn you," I said, and with the last pride I had left, I lifted my chin and turned away from him. I waited till I no longer saw his house before I sat on the sidewalk and finally broke down.

If people strolled by me, I didn't really notice. If cars passed by, they were truly the least of my problems.

My heart was breaking. That was really all that mattered at that moment.

I think I was there for a long time. I had lost track of time as well.

We would survive him. Me and my wolf both. But the journey from this place of pain, to the place of healing was going to be a very hard one.

I dragged myself from that sidewalk all the way to my house. It was a walk I had made countless times so that even without paying attention to what went on around me, I was subconsciously able to make the journey back home.

"Jasmine, you're home early." my mom said, greeting me at the door.

Yeah, I never really came home early on the days I visited Rowlan.

I smiled at her, even though my wolf was howling.

"Yeah." was all I said and just kept walking till I got to my room. If my mum noted something was wrong, she didn't say, but I did feel her eyes on me as walked by.

My mom, my dad, and I belong to the Twilight pack. My dad's beta, so I guess you can say we have a good standing in the pack.

Rowlan's family belongs to the Twilight pack, a sister pack. And I was madly in love with him. My parents and his are also good friends, and there is nothing that pleased them more than the idea of both their children being together.

wondered bleakly as I wept into my pillow which one of our parents was going to be bruised by our sudden breakup.

Better his than mine, I thought as sleep took me. After all, it had been their son who caused the whole thing.

Rowlan's Pov

"You did what?!" My father yelled at me,

"I broke up with her," I said quietly. I ran a hand over my chest, trying to soothe and ache and I couldn't feel with my hands,

"But what would make you do such a thing?"

"I don't want to die mysteriously," I said and got up, walking to look out the window.

"Have you gone mad, boy?" my father said in a hushed tone,

I turned to him, "Have I? Perhaps. But I know what I'm saying. That girl is cursed. I love her but she's cured." I said miserably.

"What are you talking about?" my mother asked,

I walked back to the chair and collapsed in it, "We went out together last week. Witches were there. A particular one seemed curious about her. She had to leave early to be with her friends because of one of the girls' weddings. The witch came to me after and told me something strange."

"And what was that?"

"That if I didn't want to suffer the fate of all the other men she had been with, I'd best keep my distance."

My mother gasped,

“What kind of fate are we talking about?”

I shrugged, “Misfortune, bad karma. One of them has even gone missing, no one has seen him till this day.” I added the last sentence in a hushed tone. That was really the one that sold me out.

"How come Adrianne has never told me of this?" Adrianne was Jasmine's mother,

"That's not something you talk about freely, is it?" I quipped,

"Well, is it something that you and Jasmine have spoken about?"

I shook my head. At the start of our relationship, Jasmine and I had decided not to talk about exes. And it had been his idea.

"That's a lot. But I'm sure it's all a coincidence. Did you talk to her about it?" My father asks,

"Why?" I sneered,

"Why? Because she's your mate!" my father yelled,

"Was. " I didn't want to suffer the fate of all her previous mates.

"You didn't talk to her about it, just broke up with her? just denounced her?" my mother asked, and she sounded pained. Denouncement was one of the worst things a werewolf could go through when it came to the mate bond.

I let out a breath, "I went to a different witch the next day. She confirmed it. If I stayed in that relationship anymore, my life would have been on the land. Do you want to be bereaved?"

"Heaven forbid."

"Good. So no more on this." I said.

"Oh my. What will I tell dear Adrianne?" my mother asked, sounding pained.

"People fall in and out of love all the time. I feel out of love. It's as simple as that."

"But did you?" my father asked quietly and I looked at him,

"No. Cause no one could really fall out of love with Jasmine Theodore."
