The Stag Shifter I Discovered in Alaska
Rose · Completed · 4.2k Words
Introduction
This year he wasn't there—left me the keys.
When I walked in, I noticed there was a new deer head mount above the fireplace.
Not a whitetail deer. A moose. Very large.
But I noticed its eyes weren't made of glass.
Those two eyeballs looked... too real.
The pupils even contracted in the light.
I texted my uncle asking when he'd shot this moose.
He replied: "What moose?"
I looked at the mount again.
Its lips moved slightly.
Not the rise and fall of breathing, but... trying to form a word.
Chapter 1
We ate happily, drank quite a bit, talked a lot.
Jack asked uncle about hunting. Ben asked about wilderness survival. Leah was interested in the animal taxidermy.
After dinner, Emma excitedly suggested, "Can you show us around? I want to see what real wilderness is like."
Uncle looked out the window. It was still fairly light.
He hesitated, then said, "It's pretty cold outside. Why not rest up and go tomorrow?"
"Just a quick look!" Emma pleaded. "We're here for such a short time."
Uncle thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, but only nearby. Anyone else want to go?"
We all shook our heads. It was freezing outside—much more comfortable to stay inside.
Before leaving, Emma excitedly said she'd definitely bring back something different.
They put on thick coats and went out.
Jack, Leah, Ben and I stayed in the living room, continuing to drink coffee and chat.
But my attention was soon drawn to something else.
Mounted above the fireplace was a huge animal head.
I'd noticed it when we came in, but the light was too dim to see clearly.
Now the firelight shone directly on it, and I could finally see what it was.
It was a moose.
Not an ordinary whitetail or elk, but North America's largest deer species—a moose.
Its head was enormous, nearly covering the entire wall, with huge palmate antlers extending to both sides.
Its fur was dark brown, with a long nose and a dewlap hanging under its chin.
But what truly unsettled me were its eyes.
Those two eyeballs looked... too real.
They were moist, glossy, with pupils as deep as two wells.
Even more eerie, I kept feeling they were staring at me.
"What kind of deer do you think that is?" I pointed at the mount.
Jack glanced up. "A moose, right? That size, definitely a moose."
"But moose are usually brown," Leah said. "This one's color looks a bit strange."
"Maybe it's the lighting," Ben said.
We argued for a while, but no one could convince anyone else.
I pulled out my phone and sent uncle a message:
"Uncle, what species is that moose above the fireplace? Looks different from regular moose."
The message showed as read almost immediately.
"What moose?"
I froze.
"What does he mean?" Jack leaned over to look at my phone. "He's saying what moose?"
I looked at the mount above the fireplace again.
It was still there, staring at me.

Everyone expects Atreus to treat his fiancée’s scholarship sister like everyone else does—as if she doesn’t matter.
Instead, his dorm room sits directly across from hers, close enough that she can see his light go out at night. Some nights, he climbs the old maintenance trellis just to check on her. He teaches her chess. He shows up exactly when something's gone wrong—and never once asks to be thanked for it.
"Don't fall in love with one piece," he warns her, over a board neither of them treats like a game anymore. "It punishes the person who only sees half of it."
Mara doesn't understand why the boy who's supposed to make her life harder keeps quietly making it easier—not until she realizes the anonymous stranger she's been writing to every week already has a name.

He doesn't know he's writing to her, either.
By the time they find out, it's too late to stop what's already happening. Far too dangerous for anyone to find out.
In an empty studio, in the middle of a rainstorm, she asks him: 'Am I the kind of girl who kisses a boy engaged to my sister?'
He doesn't answer.
So she asks: 'What are we?’
He told her not to fall in love with one piece.
She fell anyway.
And he was never far behind.

I don't.
I walk straight to the blood-soaked beast, press my body against his, and tame him with a single, desperate embrace.
There’s just one problem: his clan betrothed him to a Shaman’s daughter.
I tell myself it's purely political. I tell myself his heart is mine.
Until tonight.
He sneaks into the woods for me. We share a deep, hungry kiss under the moonlight.
But as I pull back, my blood runs cold.
Right there, on the neck of the man I just risked my soul to save...
Is a fresh, undeniable bite mark.
My Billionaire Husband's Secret
He was the CEO of the Blackwood Group — a man whose wealth and power eclipsed ninety-nine percent of the world.
He was gentle. Romantic. Attentive. I fell for him fast.
But a year into our marriage, I began to notice something — a pattern.
Lucas's sexual appetite was intense — he wanted me almost every night. Yet every single month, he arranged a solo trip to send me away. I told myself it was his way of spoiling me.
Then a message arrived from someone called Sweet An.
Do you really know your husband?
From that day on, my life filled with shadows.
I suspected my husband of having an affair.
When Lucas and I made love, something felt wrong — his body too large, too much, like something I couldn't explain.
I heard sounds during sex — animal sounds, like something feral had crawled into bed with us.
My best friend Mia said: "There are men sick enough to let dogs fuck their wives."
The family doctor, Daisy, told me: "You could never stay by Lucas's side forever. Your background doesn't make you worthy of being his wife. Do you understand?"
I went looking for whoever had been tearing my marriage apart. I fought to win my husband back.
But the deeper I searched, the larger the secret grew — something far darker hiding beneath this supposed betrayal.
Does Lucas truly love me?
And why, out of everyone in the world, did he choose to marry me?
