Introduction
So I carried my son to the chairman’s office, placed his birth certificate on the desk, and said, “If your company can’t stand the sight of him, then you can take care of your grandson yourself.”
Chapter 1
When my supervisor fired me for bringing my four-year-old to work, she thought I was just another single mother she could erase.
So I carried my son to the chairman’s office, placed his birth certificate on the desk, and said, “If your company can’t stand the sight of him, then you can take care of your grandson yourself.”

The day I lost my job, Noah was sitting under my desk drawing dinosaurs.
He was four. His preschool had closed that morning after a pipe burst in the building, and every parent had been told to pick up their child before nine. I called my supervisor before I left the parking lot.
"Vanessa," I said, keeping my voice low because Noah was buckling himself into the back seat, "I need to work from home today. The preschool just closed. I can still present the deck remotely."
Vanessa Reed laughed once, sharp and dry.
"Maya, you've already taken two half days this month."
"Both were approved. One was for Noah's fever. One was for the preschool conference you asked me to move because of the client meeting."
"And today senior leadership is coming in to hear the proposal." Her voice hardened. "You want the whole department to look unprepared because you can't arrange childcare?"
"I arranged childcare. It fell through. I can still do the presentation."
"Be in the office by ten."
The line went dead.
I sat in the driver's seat for ten seconds with my phone in my hand. My mother had died when I was twenty. My father drove freight routes and was three states away. My babysitter had texted a picture of a thermometer the night before. My neighbor, the only person I trusted for emergencies, had gone to her sister's house after a fall.
Noah kicked his sneakers together in the back.
"Mom? Am I going to your office?"
I looked at him in the mirror. His curls were still damp from the preschool bathroom sink, and his dinosaur backpack sat crooked on one shoulder.
"Just for a little while," I said. "You can draw, eat your crackers, and wear your headphones."
"Like a tiny office cat?"
I swallowed. "Exactly like a tiny office cat."
He nodded solemnly. "Then I won't meow. You can work."
That was Noah. Other children demanded toys. Noah chose the cheapest puzzle at the dollar store and told me the broken corner made it special. Other children cried when their mothers worked late. Noah curled up on a folding mat beside my desk and asked whether spreadsheets were stories for grown-ups.
I hated that he had learned to make himself small.
Northstar Tech took up five floors of a glass building downtown. I worked in product strategy, still on probation but three days away from conversion. For three months I had been building a proposal called the Little Harbor Initiative: emergency childcare support for employees, flexible work rules for caregiving crises, a safe short-term family room, outside childcare partners, insurance coverage, and a registration system so no one had to pretend a child was not there.
Vanessa had hated it at first.
"Companies exist to make money," she told me when I sent the first outline. "Not to open daycare for moms who can't manage their lives."
Then Wexler Group, Northstar's parent company, announced it wanted a flagship employee-care project. Vanessa changed her tone overnight. In meetings, she began calling Little Harbor "the plan I have been personally guiding." She sat at the head of the table and told people I was "executing her direction."
I kept the drafts. I kept the surveys. I kept every email.
For three months, the project had lived in the margins of my life. I interviewed parents in stairwells because they did not want their managers to hear them admitting they had children. I sat with a warehouse team lead whose mother had missed dialysis so he could cover an overnight shift. I spoke to a sales director who kept a booster seat in her trunk because daycare pickup and client calls kept colliding. Little Harbor was not a soft perk. It was a way to keep good employees from breaking in silence.
That was why I had measured outlet heights and insurance costs. That was why I had priced out background-checked teachers instead of letting executives imagine a room full of unattended children. Every number had a person behind it. I knew their names. Vanessa knew only the slide titles.
At nine fifty, Noah slid under my desk with his sketchbook, a snack cup, and his blue headphones. From nine to eleven, he did not make a sound. I finished the last version of the deck, checked the cost model, and added one more note about outlet covers in the child room.
Then Vanessa's heels stopped beside my chair.
She did not ask me to step outside. She did not lower her voice. She reached down, grabbed the loose fabric panel under my desk, and yanked it open.
Noah looked up, clutching a green crayon.
The office went silent.
"Maya Ellis." Vanessa's voice rose. "You brought a child into the office?"
Noah scooted back until his shoulder hit the cabinet.
I stood and pulled him out gently, putting myself between him and the room. "His preschool closed with no notice. He hasn't touched anything. He hasn't interrupted anyone."
"Hasn't interrupted anyone?" Vanessa looked around as if she had caught me hiding stolen equipment. "There are client files, laptops, confidential materials everywhere. What happens if your kid breaks something? What happens if he gets hurt?"
Bryce from HR stepped forward, already frowning for the crowd. "Maya, office policy says children are not allowed in secured work areas."
"Office policy also says emergency flexible work can be approved by a supervisor," I said. "I requested that. Vanessa refused."
Vanessa's mouth tightened.
"So now this is my fault?"
"I'm saying there was a policy option before this became a scene."
"A scene?" She pointed at Noah. "You bring baggage like that to work and think people will trust you with serious projects?"
Noah's fingers tightened around my skirt.
I heard my own pulse.
"Don't call my son baggage."
Noah peeked around me. His voice was small but clear. "I'm not baggage. I can walk by myself."
That sentence did what Vanessa's shouting had not done. It made people look at him instead of through him. A designer across the aisle pressed her lips together. One of the analysts who had filled out my childcare survey turned his chair half an inch, then stopped, afraid to be seen taking my side. I did not blame him. Vanessa had built an office where everyone understood that sympathy could become evidence against you.
Noah did not understand any of that. He only knew a grown woman had called him something ugly, and he had tried to answer with the one fact he could prove: he could walk.
A few people looked down at their shoes.
Vanessa smiled.
"Adorable. He talks back too. Just like his mother."
"Vanessa," I said, "you can attack me. Not him."
Her face changed. She had wanted me embarrassed. She had not wanted me cold.
"You are still on probation," she said. "Senior leadership is arriving today. You brought a child into a secured area and damaged the department's image. Your conversion is denied. Effective immediately, your employment is terminated."
Bryce set a packet on my desk.
I did not touch it at first. Then I saw the first page.
It was not a warning. It was not an incident report. It was a separation agreement, already printed, already dated, already filled in.
Reason for termination: serious violation of workplace management policy causing reputational harm. No severance.
So she had come prepared.
This was never about a child under a desk. It was a clean way to remove me before the presentation.
The packet was too neat. The signature tabs were already placed. The language had been polished by someone who knew how to make a decision sound inevitable. Vanessa had not discovered a violation and reacted. She had waited for the emergency she expected every working mother to eventually have, then called it proof that I was unreliable.
I saw the whole thing then: my deck downstairs, her name on the cover, senior leadership nodding over the numbers I had built at midnight while Noah slept beside me. I saw my personnel file marked with a violation that would follow me to the next interview. I saw Vanessa explaining, with sorrow she did not feel, that I had been promising but distracted.
I looked at Vanessa. "What happens to Little Harbor?"
Her smile returned.
"Little Harbor is a department project. The department will continue it."
"I built it."
"Did you?" She tilted her head. "The deck is on a company computer. The survey went through a company form. The meeting notes say I supervised the work. Maya, the office is not preschool. You don't cry and get handed a cookie."
I laughed then.
Not because it was funny.
Because she had taken my job, insulted my child, and stolen the project I had built for people exactly like me.
Noah tugged my sleeve. "Mom, are we leaving?"
His eyes were red. He was trying not to cry.
I crouched and fixed the strap of his dinosaur backpack.
"Yes," I said. "We're leaving."
Vanessa folded her arms. "Smart choice."
I took Noah's hand and walked toward the elevator. At the door, I turned back.
"Vanessa," I said, "you'd better be sure you can hold on to that project."
She scoffed. "Who are you trying to scare? You're a single mom who got fired for dragging her kid to work. Once you leave this building, who is going to remember you?"
I did not answer.
Because I had remembered something.
The people coming to hear the presentation were from Wexler Group.
And my son's father was a Wexler.

My Perverse: You're mine, you son of a bitch
Vincenzo Valentini is a man who sees the world as a business counter and human beings as merchandise.
The owner of an empire built upon corpses and submission, he is the reflection of pure perversity.
When fate places Andrew Thompson, the son of his greatest rival, into his hands, the plan was simple: use him, break him, and discard him like a toy that has lost its appeal.
What Vincenzo did not expect was that, beneath the youthful skin and the appearance of innocence, Andrew hid the same abyss as he did.
Vincenzo never wanted redemption. He never wanted someone to save him from his own darkness. He was seeking a mirror. And in Andrew, he found the partner who, upon seeing his blood-stained hands, does not recoil in terror, but trembles with desire.
In this perverse game, the "little toy" proves to be the perfect executioner. The mafia leader found someone who not only accepts his cruel side but cultivates it, feeding the monster Vincenzo has always been.
Where there should have been fear, lust emerged. Where there should have been hatred, a perverse loyalty was born. Andrew Thompson is the dark reflection of Vincenzo, the soldier the underworld did not see coming, and the man who proved that, for some, paradise only makes sense if it is in the middle of chaos.
Vincenzo opened the doors to his empire, but Andrew was the only one capable of invading his heart.
They are not heroes. They are hell on earth.
The First Female Alpha
The man I was meant to marry—the rising Alpha, the pride of the Pack—thrusting into another girl like I didn't exist.
But I didn't cry. I didn't scream. I didn't even flinch.
Because the pain had carved me hollow long before he ever touched her.
He thinks I'm weak. That I'll stand by his side in two days, smile for the ceremony, and hand him my loyalty with the Alpha title.
But he's wrong.
I'm not the broken little Luna they think I am. I'm the storm they never saw coming.
The Pack worships him, but only I know the truth buried beneath his perfect lies. So I'll take everything he wants most—the throne, the title, the crown he was born to wear—and win it out from under him, in front of everyone who ever called me unworthy.
Screw the Pack. Screw the respect. Screw being tame.
I'm fury dressed in skin, madness wearing heels, and heartbreak turned into a goddamn weapon.
They wanted a loyal Luna??
Instead...
They created a monster.
And when the throne is finally mine...
The Pack won't remember the name of the Alpha who betrayed me.
They'll remember the woman who took his crown...
and became the First Female Alpha.
Iron And Glamour Just Don't Mix
Well… Sometimes you just might turn out to be right.
It turns out, the fae stole my little brother. In his place? A pixie with boundary issues and a talent for home repairs.
I’ve spent my life taking care of everyone else. So when my baby brother is taken, I don’t hesitate. I walk straight into a faerie mansion and make a bargain with its infuriatingly charming master.
Kie is everything you’d expect from a dangerous fae, beautiful, political, and entirely too amused by me. Power wrapped in a smirk. Sensual, mischievous, and far too aware of the effect he has on people. He agrees to help me find my brother.
For a price.
Now I’m bound by a faerie bargain and navigating a world of glamour, manipulation, and ancient rules I definitely should have learned sooner, enchanted forests, political games, magical contracts, and a fae lord who treats seduction like a perfectly reasonable negotiation tactic.
Iron is how I keep people out.
Glamour is how he draws them in.
And apparently, they just don’t mix.
Invincible Upon Release: The Strongest Mage
Her family looked down on him, and even she herself said coldly: “You’re not worthy of being my husband.”
Everyone thought this newly released good-for-nothing was just a poor fool who’d taken the fall for his brother.
Thorne said nothing.
He merely raised his hand, gently pressing his bride’s forehead.
In an instant, the chaos in her eyes faded. Holy light surged from beneath the church, shooting into the sky.
The world’s only candidate for the Saintess, blessed with holy power, slowly opened her clear eyes before him.
The Devil’s Contract: Kiss Me Like A Lie

I am an Omega pretending to be a Beta, and my fiancé, Reign Montgomery, is a powerful Enigma who believes Omegas are nothing but weak whores.
I rushed to the restroom, locking myself in, praying the scent wouldn't leak. My hands shook as I dialed for help, but the door handle turned. Reign stood there. He didn't look at my face; he grabbed my wrist, pulling it to his nose, inhaling deeply. His dark, soulless eyes bore into mine. "You smell different," he whispered, his voice dangerously low. If he finds out what I really am, I’m dead.
Reign Montgomery promised himself he’d never get involved with an omega. Not romantically, not physically, not even by accident. He doesn’t trust them, doesn’t want them, and refuses to let anyone become a weakness.
Soren Fox has lived his whole life making sure no one ever learns what he truly is. An omega pretending to be a Beta, fighting in underground rings just to survive and keep his sister alive.
But one contract drags them into a dangerous partnership of lies, heat, and power, and when Soren is kidnapped, Reign realizes too late that the omega he never wanted has become the one person he can’t live without.
