Introduction

Kiera Vosslyn is a brilliant homicide detective with a genius IQ and a perfect 3D memory of every crime scene she visits. She is assigned to the most high-profile case of her career when socialite Vivienne Corbeau is found dead in her locked penthouse. The only clue left behind is a single white rose placed in the victim's hand. Kiera soon identifies four men who were the last to see Vivienne alive: a PR mogul, a fashion photographer, an old-money CEO, and an estate attorney. As she interrogates them, she discovers each man is linked to a massive white-collar conspiracy involving reputation laundering and blackmail. Kiera finds herself drawn into a complex reverse harem relationship with all four suspects as they offer her protection and information. The investigation reveals that Vivienne was murdered because she was about to expose their world's darkest secrets. A serial killer named Gideon Krall is behind the deaths, believing he is purifying the elite by removing threats. Kiera must navigate her growing romantic and erotic feelings for the four men while staying one step ahead of a killer who has become obsessed with her. The case pushes her to the edge of her professional ethics and her personal safety. Ultimately, Kiera must decide if she can trust the men she loves or if one of them is the ultimate betrayer.

Chapter 1

The elevator doors opened onto air so cold it felt manufactured, and Kiera Vosslyn stepped out of it already cataloging. Marble floor, veined gray and white, polished to a mirror shine. A console table to the left, empty except for a single unlit lamp. The smell hit her next, expensive perfume gone stale under something coppery and wrong, the kind of smell that told her everything she needed to know before she'd seen the body.

Vivienne Corbeau lay across silk sheets the color of bone, her platinum hair still perfect against the pillow, as if she had arranged herself for a photograph rather than a death. No blood pooled beneath her. No bruising darkened her throat or wrists. Her ice-blue eyes were closed, her lips still faintly stained with the red lipstick that had made her famous on magazine covers twenty years ago. One hand rested on her chest, fingers curled loosely around a single white rose, its petals still damp with dew that should have wilted hours ago.

Kiera crouched beside the bed without touching anything, her eyes moving in slow, deliberate sweeps. The window across the room looked out over the skyline, city lights blurred behind triple-paned glass that cost more than most people's houses. No smudges on the sill. No scuff marks on the carpet. No sign that another human being had walked through this room and left in a hurry.

"Talk to me," she said, not looking up.

Yara Mendez appeared in the doorway, tablet in hand, gold hoops catching the low light. "Security system logged zero unauthorized entries in the last forty-eight hours. Cameras in the hallway, the elevator, the lobby—all clean. Building manager swears the loop's untouched."

"It's not untouched," Kiera said. "It's perfect. Nobody's system is this perfect."

She rose and walked the perimeter of the bedroom, her gaze skating over the vanity, the closet door left half open, the faint indentation on the carpet where a chair had been moved and returned almost exactly to its original position. Almost. A half-inch discrepancy, invisible to anyone without her memory, screamed at her like a siren.

"No enemies," Yara said, scrolling through notes. "Everybody loved her. Charity boards, gala committees, half the tabloids ran her as a saint last year after that hospital wing thing."

"Everybody loves the version people are shown," Kiera murmured. "Nobody gets killed like this over brunch invitations."

She crossed to the nightstand, where a slim charging cable lay coiled beside an empty cradle shaped for a device that wasn't there. First responders had photographed the room, bagged the obvious, and moved on. Nobody had noticed the dust outline, a rectangle slightly darker than the surrounding wood, the ghost of something removed within the last few hours.

"There was a drive here," Kiera said. "External. Small. Somebody took it."

Yara leaned over her shoulder, frowning. "That's not in the initial report."

"Because the initial report was written by people looking at a dead woman instead of a room." Kiera crouched again, studying the angle of the cradle, the exact degree the cable had been left coiled. Someone careful. Someone who knew exactly what they wanted and took nothing else.

On the dresser, half-hidden beneath a cashmere throw, sat Vivienne's leather planner, its pages edged in gold. Kiera opened it with a gloved hand, flipping past charity luncheons and spa appointments until she found a page near the back, a short list in elegant, slanted handwriting. Four names. No titles, no explanation, just initials and surnames written close together like a private code.

Rowan Hale. Emre Kade. Lucien Ashcroft. Theo Marlowe.

She knew two of those names from society pages she never read on purpose but absorbed anyway, the way she absorbed everything. A PR titan. An old-money heir. She didn't recognize the other two yet, but she would by morning.

"Four men," she said quietly. "All last seen with her, or all connected to something she was working on. Either way, I want them in a room by tomorrow."

Her phone buzzed against her hip before Yara could answer. Captain Briggs's name lit the screen, and Kiera stepped into the hallway to take it, leaving Yara to bag the planner.

"Vosslyn." Briggs's voice sounded like gravel dragged over concrete. "Tell me you've got something."

"I've got a locked room, a looped security feed, and a woman who died without a mark on her," Kiera said. "That's not nothing. That's a professional."

"The Mayor's office called twice in the last hour," Briggs said. "Corbeau donated to half the campaigns in this city. They want an arrest before the six o'clock news cycle turns this into a referendum on public safety."

"They can want whatever they like. I'm not handing them a scapegoat."

"I know you're not," Briggs said, and something in his tone softened, the way it always did right before he told her something she didn't want to hear. "Just watch your back on this one, kid. People with that much money don't like being looked at too closely."

Kiera glanced back through the open bedroom door at the pale curve of Vivienne's hand, at the rose that hadn't wilted in hours it should have wilted in. "Then they should have thought of that before they let her get killed in a room nobody could get into."

She ended the call and stood there a moment longer, letting the image burn itself into memory the way every scene did, down to the dust motes suspended in the cold air. By the time she left the penthouse, she could already walk through it with her eyes closed, could trace the exact fold of the sheets, the precise curl of each rose petal, the half-inch shift of a chair someone had tried and failed to put back exactly where it belonged.

Back at the precinct, under fluorescent light that made everything look flatter and uglier than it was, Kiera sat at her desk with the case file untouched beside her and closed her eyes. The room rebuilt itself behind her eyelids, wall by wall, object by object, until she was standing in it again, alone with the dead woman and the flower someone had placed with the precision of a surgeon.

Whoever had done this hadn't wanted a robbery. They'd wanted a message, and they'd wanted it read exactly once, by exactly the right person.

She opened her eyes and reached for the four names still glowing behind them like an afterimage.

Dear readers, this novel is coming to an end soon. I highly recommend another fantastic story of the same genre:

I’d appreciate all your support, thank you so much!
From first crush to wedding vows, George Capulet and I had been inseparable. But in our seventh year of marriage, he began an affair with his secretary.

On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...

Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.

George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.

His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"

Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.

When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"

George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"

"I'm afraid that's impossible."

Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
